@@TheBollox888 Hi bud, just break the blocks into smaller bits which will help you to create a curve. If it’s concrete block you’re doing it with, it doesn’t need to be pretty as your rendering will cover all the rough bits. Hope that helps 😁
Really helpful video as i am about to start my own foray into retaining walls up the garden. I was planning on leaving weep holes in the first course and backfilling with rubble and stones. The wall is going to be around 1000mm tall and I’m using dense blocks that i will later face with stone.
Excellent vid did you use the same mix for the footings and the laying of the blocks or was it a different one you said they were 200mm blocks how wide was the footings you put in
For a wall of this height, it would ve been better to use some rebar in footing and also leaving a bit more space behind the wall for pea gravel and drainage.
Hi Scott, you can do it the very next day! Concrete cures pretty quick. It will still be "Green" the next day but, you can lay the blocks straight on the foundation with no problem. Hope that helps 😉
Hi James. put some old concrete/stone rubble behind the wall for drainage, much cheaper than perforated pipe as it comes in 25 meters rolls so you'd have loads left over for a 4 meter wall😁
I need to build retaining wall, only approx 3 foot high, the wall will be around 12 meters long. The soil it will be retaining is on a slight slope. Do I need to put anything behind the wall? Like a water drain pipe? Or can I just use weep holes like in this video? And do I just back fill the wall with soil or gravel? Thanks
Hi, That's quite long wall so yes, I would put in a perforated drainage pipe with gravel behind and build weep holes into the wall. Make sure you lay the blocks on flat (wall width should be minimum of 210mm) Hope that helps
I would recommend your footings to be a minimum of 150mm (6") in depth, and 400mm (16") wide. Make sure the bottom of your trench is at least 350 - 400mm (14-16") below ground level on most soils. For clay soil however, thicker and deeper footings should be used. Hope that helps😉
Cheers mate much appreciated have a goodun
@@TheBollox888 😁👍
Just a quick question how do you find the correct angle for cutting the blocks to create the bend as I have one to tackle soon Cheers

@@tomcrookes5689 sounds like a very substantial wall. Make sure that the finished thickness of the wall is at least 200mm. Happy wall building 😁

Simple and effective many thanks for showing

I'm gonna disagree with you, but thanks for your comments. 😁
Fantastic video buddy
Thx Marcus😁
How long do you wait between putting in the foundation and laying blocks? Got a similar task to take on

Great video. I've just built one very similar 4m long and 45cm tall. Do I need a perforated pipe behind for drainage? Thanks

That's great thanks
You can make your own perforated pipe by drilling lots of holes in a £20 3m 110mm drainage pipe.
@@lukehanna7440 Sounds like a lot of work Luke!😅

I have a 900mm high retaining wall to build what depth and width footing do I need to dig please
