    Very useful video thanks for posting! I've just started a DIY project to build a retaining block wall holding back about 600mm soil and have been reading different things about the footing requirements which I was going to do at 450mm width and 150mm thickness. Does there need to be a sub base applied below the footing ever? We have heavy clay as you dig down.

      You don't need any fill under the foundations but you must make sure you are dug down to solid ground. 👍

    Masterful as always buddy.
    As it happens, I’m at this stage now, laying the blocks on edge. Albeit much slower than you of course as it’s my first time doing it.
    I think I’ve gone a bit overkill with my 400mm x 630mm footings though 😅 oh and they’re full of rebar too!
    Any reason you went with the Black Jack this time over the KA Tanking Slurry like on the Flooded Masterpiece?
    Btw, regarding the 20mm clean stone, I’m certain I’ve read that it’s actually better than pea gravel as there’s more voids so the water can move more freely without building up pressure, and pea gravel doesn’t drain as well as 20mm.

    • @brickrightbuildinglandscaping
      @brickrightbuildinglandscaping  3 месяца назад

      Hi Marus
      They ran out of tanking so used the black jack instead mate .as for the gravel your probably right it doesn't really matter what you use as long as it's clean mate 👍

    Hi mate, really enjoying the content you’re providing us.. Can I ask.. with regards to the “black jack” liquid dpm paint used behind the blocks.. what’s the best thing to use? to go with the liquid dpm or is it better to go with something like Tanking slurry or I believe there’s another black jack product called bitumen I think? There’s not a lot of information online with regards to this important step.. Any advice given would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you and keep the informative content coming! 😊👍🏼

    • @brickrightbuildinglandscaping

    Hi Justin
    Nice work mate , lovely job pal , pet hate engineers in the wet mate , but you make it look easy pal , , and I used to full trowel dollop it on flat , because of pointing falling in the voids pal and saves you the flicking of the brick like a propeller , but again it’s each to his own the way you find , bet your looking forward to the sun pal , you need it pal , , keep safe and well pal and have a great break mate ❤🙏👍

    Nice work I've just built my own wall using the same method..my only concern is the drainage pipe, the ground level is higher at the front of wall vs behind by 25cm, am I good to put a bed of 25 cm drainage shingle to level it before i position the pipe with a fall off to the exit point? Just wondering if the pipe will be low enough to the base of the wall? Especially as by time I factor the drop off the highest point might be 30-35 cm high from one end of the pipe to the exit. Hope that makes sense

    • @brickrightbuildinglandscaping
      @brickrightbuildinglandscaping  День назад

      @adamcoughtrey5851
      Yes but it depends on your exit point but not to confuse you .
      Fill up the back of the wall so it's at least level with the front of the wall with chippings.
      The water has to be able to run out the exit point so you are correct 👍

      yes, if he laid them up right (the normal way they are used when building) the wall could potentially be pushed over. So yes this is structurally better. It is also probably better than 2 block skins built up right where ties would have to be then used.

    I am amazed. I watched half a dozen American RUclipsrs on retaining walls, and every one of them built much larger footings and used a lot of rebar, and say that retaining walls will crack or push over without them. The one difference is that the Americans are using hollow concrete blocks that are about 200x200x400mm and you are using solid blocks that are half that height. Are the Americans overbuilding, or does the type of block make that much difference?

    • @brickrightbuildinglandscaping
      @brickrightbuildinglandscaping  2 месяца назад

      @victorstrasser2108
      They would fill the holes with concrete aswell.
      This is what I do that's what they do .
      If in any doubt about your wall contact a structural engineer for exact specifications 👍
