  • How to build a retaining wall step by step. Building a retaining wall is an easy diy project that anyone can do after watching this video. This block retaining wall system can be built without the need of a concrete footing / foundation. I will show you just how easy it is to do it yourself even if you are a beginner. To make a retaining wall you simply build a base for the foundation either out of compacted road base or concrete. Then you dry stack the blocks and fill the core in with free draining blue metal . The capping is lastly glued on to the top course of blocks. You can also install drainage to help direct or divert the excess water which may build up at the back of the retaining wall particularly if you are retaining soil. Hi Bill,
    Can you explain the aggregation line section? Because it is slotted ag. line, will it pick up all the water the flows to the back of the wall? If not, is it enough to only pick up most of the water and let the rest drain to ground?
    What would happen if you just left out the ag line completely, allowing the water drain to ground? I'm just conscious of water pooling top of the concrete (or road base etc.)
    Thanks for all your videos and advice - it has helped us immensely!
    Andrew

    • @billshowto
      @billshowto  Год назад +1

      Hi andrew, the back section is on a slight slope and during heavy rain may cause water issues eg; pooling or over flowing into areas that I don’t want excess water going to. The blue metal will allow the water to flow freely down to the ag line ( slotted pipe) and will then redirect the water to the storm water connection.

    Looks a bit up and down lucky only two courses as the higher you go the worse it gets. Its very important that the first course is dead level which is the most time consuming part of building retaining walls but worth it in the end ,to do that on your job you should have used mortar to lay the first course as the concrete foundation is impossible to get dead level, also you should have run a string line on the back clean edge of the caps when laying them down don't rely on the rough face as they are all different as i can see the back edge is all wonky and it sticks out like dogs 🎱🎱 just giving you some helpful tips here cheers.

    Thanks @Billshowto great video! Does the concrete need reo mesh? And did you start stacking blocks the day after concrete was poured yeah? Also, how deep was the concrete footing? Thanks so much, Joe
