- It’s time to watch another bad adaptation because I love suffering! In preparation for the Netflix live action I decided to force myself to watch the 2012 live action movie and it was, perhaps, worse than I remembered! I’m going to do my best to keep my hopes up for the new live action. If anything, it cannot be worse than this one was and I can live with that!! Will you be watching the new show?? 🌊🪨🔥🌬️

Nobody _EVER_ talks about the worst part of the six earthbenders scene, though! The six of them weren’t even the attackers, _they were just setup!_ All of them do an entire dance routine to float a small rock slowly through the air….and then 5:05 _ONE GUY,_ in _ONE MOVE,_ launches the damn thing at _at least_ five times faster than they moved it!
It cracks me up every time I see it!
I know!!!! Also I find it funny that the prison with all the Earthbenders are, you know, still surrounded by the earth!!!!! If you’re not going to use the sea prison fortress at least put those earthbenders in metal cages.
Just reminds me of Nostalgia Critic's reaction to that scene...so bad
The movie is actually somewhat enjoyable if you watch it as a bad parody lmao (or ember island play 2.0)
Some parts are so awkward with the dialogue, and the weird zoom ins on their faces out of nowhere, oh and the silences between scenes- that it absolutely sends meee 😂
@@KozyFaerie A truly iconic reaction: "IN THE SHOW A SINGLE EARTHBENDER TAKES OUT A TANK! *A TANK!!!!!"*
...That's rough buddy.
The six guys getting together to slowly move one tiny rock will always be hysterical!

@@zoeturcotte7002 I studied martial arts growing up and I’m literally a third degree black belt. I care about martial arts but there are better portrayals in media. Compared to the show where earth benders throw tanks around easily this is just sad.

bro i watched the entire movie for just that one scene like literally 💀💀💀
The only good thing I can say about this movie is it helped get Seychelle Gabriel cast as Asami in Legend of Korra
I went looking for this comment!!
The funny thing is, I love PJO and ATLA, but both have HORRIBLE movie adaptations…. The pain that I’m having as I watch this lmao 😭
And they both got new adaptations in the beginning of 2024
@@Shortandnerdyyfrrr but pjo was at the end of 23
@Madisonn.12 still the best book adaptations to come out.
What
@jlynheart16 the people who grew up on them are having a great year so far
The casting here was just wild! You can't imagine the jump scare I got when Brooklyn Beckham got married and I realized his wife was the "actress" who played Katara?! 😳😵💫
Supposedly she only got the role because her father is a billionaire and he was an investor at the studio
@jlynheart16 Then her father must really hate her because there's no way he thought this movie was a good opportunity 😂😂
@@JadeAl. I imagine it's akin to watching your daughter in the school play. You gotta be supportive even if you know they're crap :D
she is the Snapple heiress lmao of course she gets the role without experience
took me like 13 years to realize that Princess Yue in this movie also voiced Asami in TLK
Really that awesome thought her voice was familiar I just thought I was insane
She was much better than Netflix Yue IMO
The Jasper look took me out. He can only play Jasper. 💅and the fact that they thought they were gonna get a sequel. 😂😂😂
Here’s the thing:
He was in an episode of Criminal Minds, and he NAILED IT!!
But he keeps getting cast in these films where the writing and directing are absolute DOG WATER.
It’s the Hayden Christensen Effect. Jackson Rathbone IS a good actor…..with the right material.

first: i dont want to insult your opinion, if you like the movie, you like the movie!

Ive been doing martial arts for 20 years now, so i dare say that i have a good grip in the concept, and while their movements may be okayish, the effect and the history that we learn from the show is just not there
I convinced my family for us to go watch this in cinema so they could finally understand why I liked this "avatar thing" so much, back when I was younger... Needless to say they thought even less of me and my tastes afterwards...
Oh my GOD. your earthbending macarena dance routine had me rolling

my One Thing i liked in this movie was when Katara tries to attack with waterbending for the first(?) time and accidentally gets it on Sokka, not the fire nation soldiers. It was a good gag and considering how many times Sokka gets all kinds of stuff on him (be that snow, slime, saliva...), it was character accurate. I laughed.
Another good thing I will give the movie was the casting of Azula, for who short it is. The actress Summer Bishi, showed on the show The Magicians she would have made a killer Azula under an actual good adaption
That Earthbender dance you did. I can't. It was beautiful, and steange, in a Johnny Depp Willy Wonka way. When he talks to the Oompa Loompa leader - that. I have complicated feelings about it lol

Remember when Bolin's family thought his movers were comedies? I think that joke was thrown in there in reference to this movie.
I've been reading reactions from people who went to the premiere for the first episode of the live action ATLA and I am actually SO excited for the new live action show. The cast seems great and the crew speak so highly of the source material. The VFX might not be the best and I know there might be some changes not everyone will like, but I'm personally looking forward to it. Disney PJO adaptation was so much fun to watch and I have a feeling the NATLA show will be as well.
What I always enjoy is there's part of a scene that "Katara" talks over that they mostly took out when she's talking about taking back Earth Kingdom villages from the Fire Nation. The full scene was deleted. In that scene the villagers celebrate by doing the most generic native dance you could think of. Makes me laugh every time.
When i think about live adaptations of japanese animation like Fullmetal Alchemist, Saint Seiya, or Attack on Titan, i must admit : this one is almost decent.
I’m so sorry you did this to yourself, ❤ (seriously I love your videos)
not me just realizing sokka in this movie was literally jasper from twilight
7:33 Aang running away looked so sped up it made me burst out in laughter
WHOAW!!!!! To this day I am still not over this movie. I am literally, just disappointed just hearing this again.
In the dvd box set of AtlA, there are behind the scene bonus content for this movie (that doesn't exist in Ba Sing Se). Theres a few interviews with M. Night and the Co-creator. They seem to be hopeful of the film in the interviews. But its really funny to go back and watch. Its like being in a dream and screaming at someone but no words come out of your mouth
I love Jackson!💗😂
The fricking Jesse McCartney skit killed me!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Definitely your funniest reaction video yet! The arm movements were just too good!🤣
The thing is we've already seen how a modern day netflix Avatar would look with Dragon Prince and, even though its pretty good, they took what Avatar would have told in 2 maybe 3 seasons and turned it into 6. That's not even including the limitations of life action CGI technology which is ever escalating but will never beat the animation. Therefore, unlike with One Piece where they were actually able to improve the pace and trade realistic, strong acting in a more realistic setting, the Avatar remake will likely worsen the pacing or at best keep it the same and will have to reconcile trying to make realistic a world that is intentionally made to be fantastical and cartoony.
To give credit, I do think they are right that they can make an improvement on Sokka's misogynic tendancies but what a graveyard of Ls to attempt to face to fix one problem. I hope new kids like it is all i can say
The producers: hmmm 🤔 these Chinese words are kind of ugly. i know! We can change them and make them look more artistic!
Also the producers: let’s change the name pronunciation to make it seem more like a Chinese person would say it! because we want this to be authentic Chinese culture!!
Like how does that make sense😂!!??
Writer: Alright Mr Night, we have changed all the pronounciations to be accurate to the language of origin
Shyamalan: I want more changes

Just uhh. Just read the books first before watching it.
The movie's awesomeness is on par with the ATLA and PJO adaptations

I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW ABOUT THE SCRIBBLES 🤯🤯 After all this time, I hate this movie sooooooo much more than when I 1st saw it. Great commentary

@zoeturcotte7002 I respect your opinion and heartily disagree. The acting is wooden, the dialogue amateur, the casting atrocious, the portrayal of bending makes everything so slow and dull. This movie is a slap in the face to the franchise and absolutely deserves the bad reputation it has amongst the fandom
Percy Jackson, The Last Airbender and Dragon Ball Evolution were my triple combo of realizing as a child that movies could be bad, actually

At the end you bring up the BEST point I have heard about the Netflix live action ATLA. WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE ANIMATED SERIES. We can always go back and watch that, over and over. Fall in love with it all over again. No live action adaptation will ever reach that height, but Netflix did a great job reaching further towards it. And it helps keep that beautiful, perfect animation alive.
My dad and I had a daddy daughter date and went to go see this movie when it first came out… we definitely bonded…
Over how awful it was
Mikaila loving Hp pjo and Atla I think I found my new fave RUclipsr to watch
The names are bizarre on every level especially since, I theorize, the original show took a bunch Asian names but gave them Westernized spelling to make it easier for Western audiences to pronounce and access, and then the movie comes along and is like, "but what if we use an inconsistent Asian pronunciation template based soley on the westernized spelling?"
The, "What in the Mandela effect," got me.
As a huge ATLA fan I went to this movie premiere day without looking at reviews, paid full price and 3D, to this day I still remember the feeling of deep disappointment and robbery. Never again I went to a movie without checking reviews or in 3D
Showing off your singing skills yet again with that jesse mcartney skit
I've replayed "his name is ong, he is the ovatar" about 5 times already
also, soak-ka isn't pouty enough /s

The bar doesn't exist/the bar is on the floor. Same thing I say about finding a boyfriend, the bar is in hell
Before i watched the original series, i watched the live action movie. I was born in 2005 so i missed basically all of the avatar stuff. I only got into it about a few years ago i believe. I watched the movie and was like “why does everyone say it’s bad? It’s lowkey kinda good.” Then i watched the series and MAN at the end i cried like a baby. Instantly became one of my favorite shows. Just finished watching it for the third time about a week ago. And then i also realized how horrible the movie was. I dont know why everyone always feels like a good show needs a live action. Just let a masterpiece be a masterpiece.
I'll give credit to the movie. I watched it without knowing what the world of Avatar was and I really loved it the first time because I didn't compare it to anything and I enjoyed it. I considered it to be a cool concept. Of course it's a bad adaptation, but I'd argue it's an ejoyable movie as a standalone.
I love your wall decorations
I have never watched more than the earthbending clip before, and I'm lowkey upset that I watched this video because every single clip hurt lol
5:00 "WE HAVE THE POWER GOD AND ANIME ON OUR SIDE"
Best part of going to see this movie in the theater (in Jamaica) was the National Anthem and the put on your 3d glasses Rio clip.... I dont remember anything else 😅
That Jesse McCartney audition was a thing of beauty. I really needed that. Thank you.
“He felt mixed race with an Asian quality to him” is a WILD sentence to say. I had to replay that part back because wtf 😂
Mikaila, please, self-harm is never the answer, not even for content. Remember that you are precious and loved. You don't need to subject yourself to this kind of trauma. Too many wonderful ATLA fans have already suffered.
Let's not forget that this came out at the height of trying to make every movie a 3D release (as an afterthought in post-production). Which meant, you could watch 95% of this movie with your 3D glasses off (which I totally did to check) whilst paying twice as much for the tickets and useless glasses on top 😂 I remember not being able to find a local 2D release for this. Bonkers!
The other good thing, aside from the soundtrack, is Princess Yue's actor, who later played Asami in LoK
*There was no movie in the ATLA universe…*
Mikaila you are a comedic genius and I hope you know that
I love the conclusion about the bar =)))))) so funny =)))) watching you rewatching Avatar 2010, especially now that the ATLA Netflix is confirmed to be renewed for season 2, 3; really hope that I see my girrl Toph cuz the 2010 is so bad I never get to see a Toph live action
you made me wheeze and cackling throughout this video lmaoooo
I love how we are all rewatching the horrible movie adaptations of pjo and avatar and cringing collectively.
I have watched 5/8 episodes of the new live action. I loved the first 3 episodes and then it just got SHOVED together, like they wont ever have a season 2 so season 2 is just diced up and forced into the current events, but like... its not as impactful if you dont have that season of emotional build up. Casting: nearly perfect. Costuming: a bit too clean and cosplay-esque, but good a$$ cosplay and THOSE HAIRSTYLES ARE ON POINT! Scenery: look, i know 80% of it is CGI but it's f^@^@&&ing gorgeous, alright. Score: good. Idk if it's James Newton Howard powerful, but it's good. Storyline: watching this so far has only made me feel good as a fan. As a new watcher of the whole original series and kora (i only watched just last year), i wonder if making this live action series is even worth it. The animation has so many good jokes, and you get to see all of momo and appa, and Aang's eagerness to goof off showed that 1) he's a TWELVE YEAR OLD BOY and 2) he's still in denial of this whole thing and doesnt want the responsibility at all until after he DIES the first time. He doesn't get serious for a hot minute because it's a lot, you know? 12 yo brain isnt gonna process all of that by throwing one singular avatar state tantrum and having a good cry. Denial is a part of the process, and gosh does Aang go through it. He even avoids sleeping just to avoid feeling stress from the weight of his responsibility. I dont feel like the live action really hits that as well. It's a really respectful adaptation, but i just dont see a point in it if it's just a subpar clone. You're right, the show is just too good for any adaptation to hit well enough.
Literally came here after rewatch the movie that should not be named
I felt “what in the Emma Stone” on a deeply emotional soul touching moment.
The Fire Nation scenery was lovely, like Bagan ... wide flat plains of trees and stupas.
And Cliff Curtis stalking around looking irritable that for once he's not playing a terrorist but it's this nonsense instead.
I don't know why the side by side Jasper comparison had me CRYING 😂
thank for suffering for us so we don't have to! zuko is a PAB in this movie. 🤣
Watching this after the live action show, I can tell you its much better. Also after watching this video, I am very g;ad I havent watched the full 2010 movie
If any of you fans are lookig for another near perfect cartoon, I highly recommend The Dragon Prince! I am sure a lot of ATLA fans have watched it at this point though. It is written by the Same head writer as ATLA and one of the main characters is voiced by the same VA as sokka Jack de Sena. They also included a lot of easter eggs for the ATLA fans which makes it even more fun to watch. I really want to see Mikeala talk about it though! I think those would be some fun videos
I don't understand why M. Night Shyamalan had to make the fire benders Indian to look more Asian (as if Japanese wasn't Asian enough😑).
Nostalgia critic has a pretty good thesis on this movie.
"there is no movie in ba sing se"😂😂😂
Genuinely "flow like water" is singlehandedly one of the most beautiful pieces of soundtrack out there. The soundtrack on the whole is phenomenal! I really think thats the main reason I liked the movie when I saw it in 2010 for the first time (i had no movie taste until I turned like 14 or so). It's really a shame that such a good soundtrack is associated with such a horrible film lol
My family has deemed it as a 'family show' night so I couldn't help but contrast and compare the cartoon to the show and bite my tongue to not say anything when my dad and sister are so excited to watch it 😭😅
shyamalan: "i had to change the pronunciation of aang's name. it wasnt accurate to asian culture, i couldnt do it!"
also shyamalan: yEah sO heS nOt lIKe aCTuaLLy aSiaN bUt hE LiKe fEeLs asIAn yOu gET mE?
So I watched this movie without any idea of the source material when it came out, and I remember saying, “It was alright.” I am glad I was able to say that instead of, “It was a smear upon the art of film making and storytelling!”
love that M night wanted the names to sound more "authentic" but replaced the ACTUAL CHINESE in the opening with scribbles
I don't know why I did it but I recently saw the film and I had to give myself a treat for going through......this...😮💨
Why would you torture yourself like this🤣
I was watching every earth/water/fire bending scene DOUBLE time, and it still looked like Tai Chi.
(I don't mean to diss Tai Chi. I love Tai Chi)
It's not even funny how unsatisfied and confused I felt when the movie was over. I couldn't really explain it as a kid but it just didn't feel right. Now as an adult, it is very obvious why I felt this way about it
i was thinking about this earlier and i feel like what majes pjo a good show us that riordan was there making sure they stayed true to the essence of what the books are. the changes may have been weird in some places but the essence was there. but with atla it... doesn't feel that way. it feels like they want to get from point a to b to c without considering everything that helped it get there
My kids and I love ATLA anime. The trailers for the 2010 looks pretty good. Took the kids to watch the movie in 2010. After the first 10 minutes half the room walked out. Miss cast. Yoko, Uncle Iroh and the rest of the cast. CGI was bad.
I actually see the different pronunciation of characters' names actually the only nice thing about this movie. It was M. Night's shorthand to tell us that these are not the characters we fell in love with in the animation
i haven’t seen your channel before today, and this was fun to listen to and watch😂 but i was really anticipating watching the movie alongside you. i checked the length of your video too late and realized that this wasn’t a watch with me at all like i expected. funny video nonetheless!!❤
i think 2010 was the worst year for adaptations… the pjo movie? the atla movie? foul
They straight-up said Noah was half Chinese when the complaints poured in for the casting. Twitter raged about it for a couple of days.
Noah Ringer is of native american descent.
Yeah that’s not the air nomads
2010 gave us Inception and The Social Network, but sadly also ATLA and PJO adaptations 😢
this movie narrated like one of those old silent movies
Do i have to turn in my Avatar fan card if i say the film isn't THAT bad...
Like it's bad... But it's not THAT bad.
Whoa, you did not do "Nightmares and Daydreams" like that! (I get why people don't like that episode, but I love it).
Its the dark lord himself lord voldeyyyyyy
I want to know why it took “katara” and “sokka” so freaking long to ask “aang” his name. What were they calling him up to this point? Boy? Ice pop? Hey You?
We need the full cover of Beautiful Soul, because that was fantastic
THANK YOU!! MY OPINION EXACTLY! ❤🎉
I saw both the animated one years ago and the new Netflix adaptation. I liked them both. They were different, but differences from source material arent presumptively bad. I liked many of the changes (especially the character nuances brought to both the villains and heroes) and thought they actually improved from the cartoon. I dont expect fervent purists to agree with me on that. But i wish people would give it a fair shake and judge it on its own merits, rather than condemn it for not being a scene-for-scene, line-for-line duplication of the original. If thats what peoole want, they should just go watch the cartoon again, with all its goofiness and dubious morality about never killing people despite being in a war.
The way i think about this movie is that its not an adaptation of Avatar the Last Airbender its an adaptation of the Ember Island Players version of the show 🤣
I actually the the character for Aang seems pretty talented and I think the costumes weren’t too bad. It was different and didn’t stay true to the animation but was still believable. Dev is super talented and I think they did their best with the dialogue/script they were given. Still a bad movie but I’m not happy with the new series either.
The only reason I can think of for casting (VERY) Caucasian actors for the Water Tribes is the blue eyes. That's it. I do wish they had kept the eye colours for the Netflix show, though, somehow
Mikaila is a MASOCHIST!!! Who'd have guessed😅🤣😂
It’s crazy that TLA live action movie has the most insanely impressive set design, costume design and music, and then it’s overshadowed by how absolutely dogwater the writing, acting, and directing is.
