Thank you Steve and Vitalii for visiting us and helping us set up our new studio layout!! Sorry for the mess lol 😅 Check out @GamersNexus video about the tech hoard here: ruclips.net/video/xYqeI3Om1ew/видео.htmlsi=BKWQBNxcJJnffKWG
hahahaha! I didn't know you just DUMPED THAT WHOLE BIN into a drawer! So that's what happened when you disappeared around the corner! I now know the first thing I am sorting next time. Huge props to your editors to cut an entire day of filming together like this. Came out great!
@@youkofoxy Exactly: no dead cats, no buckets of urine, no stacks of dishes that haven't been washed, no mountain of cigarette butts, no room full of empty liquor and pizza boxes.
Also the sense in both videos of Wendell bringing out his treasures to show off to Steve has some real introvert friend vibes, which I like. I also really like Steve sort of saying "hey, you mentioned this cool thing for our video -- mention it to your folks as well."
Dude. Super proud of you for publishing this. It's frickin' hard to invite someone into your space and start making changes to it. Good work, vulnerability leads to successful outcomes. Keep it up, my friend!
Before/after, i was surprised just how much bigger the Studio looked. Now Wendell has new space for "Mad computer scientist" experiments. Great stuff. A hoarder pro-tip: If you are overwhelmed by what you have, just put a label on whatever shelve/drawer you have, of what you think should be there. Everytime you pass by, and see something, NOT mentioned by the label, you'll go: Why is that here, and not there, where i put the label? And over time, you'll put the things, where the label is. It really helps taking off "pressure".
Always a good day to see a Steve & Wendell collaboration video. I don't think you'd find more love for what they do and integrity for doing it well in any other two people on RUclips. You guys rock!
I am in the hospital and after watching hours of tv home renovations (omg.. everything needs to be white and gray.. and who needs this wall between the bathroom and bedroom) this was a ton of fun to watch
4:06 I'm just thinking of all the ESD bags those devices came in... GRAB...CHUCK....GRAB...CHUCK! i remember working in a place where the manager was "OMG you gotta get those in the ESD bags! destiny depends on it!" then i'd go home and treat all my spare parts JUST like Wendell. and everything was fine. they're still fine. it's all fine
Steve's impeccable sense of detail and order is nothing short of inspiring. I JUST finished organizing most of my room by category and I feel so much better.
Sorry for caps, but... I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS COLLAB! Wendel, if you sort and stack the stuff... You can actually hoard even more because you will have more space for it! I love the "treasure hunt", when Steve strays from the planend course and just ... picks up something random... You never know what he finds and everything has (hi)story :)
I've been watching Wendell for a long ass time, Tek days, and never realized how much I relate to his state of mind regarding old tech. Everything has a use, everything has a place, and that place is... everywhere.
I love Steve's tape trick with the cross pointing at the subject and settings written in marker. I've been using tape already to mark tripod locations but not to that extent.
Grimaced on that right before I saw your message, but let's be honest: they're probably small undesirable SATA disks. I'd throw a 1TB in a drawer too. If I found out those were mega-terabyte beauties, I'd think about all the legit movies I could put on there and get sad.
Thanks for doing this Steve! It's great to see the community just helping each other out. You've always set a high bar for ethics and neighborly good behavior.
TechTubers assemble! Wendell needs you and you (and we, his clients and customers) owe him that for all the hours and times he's saved us! Love you Wendell 😁
Watching this, makes me feel good as I have the same basement of 20 years worth of enterprise gear. When I get a call for some NetApp or 3PAR or Gen 8-11 HPE server / etc. Yeah....I have that. What you lost a MSA2040 Fiber controller....I have 10. What you are running a C7000. No problem. Let me hit the bone yard. My spouse knows that every cable is "special". There is just no easy way to sort / store and catalog some many Jenga parts. Well done IT hoarding clean team.
24:56 I-ya, I against I Flesh of my flesh, and mind of my mind Two of a kind, but one won't survive My images reflect in the enemy's eye And his images reflect in mine the same time
This is a video I didn't know I needed! If you are on the fence about watching the whole thing, please enjoy 22:50 where zombie Golden Girls are mentioned! I laughed so hard my neighbors almost complained! Anyway, Steve seems to genuinely love organizing...also Wendell is just your favorite teddy bear like usual! I love it! 😀
Appreciated. I am starting to feel better about our lab space... and also a bit odd because watching someone else clean up and organize was oddly satisfying!
Living in a small space due to current economy stuff you really learn to make the most of verticality. Shelving is really a must but also having stuff mounted on walls (like one of those ikea shoe bags) and having drawers under beds/desks etc. Organising is really a skill, and worth knowing.
The pink or red doom thing I think is what it said, what he said. Reminds me of attack of. the killer tomatoes. Now that song or the theme song of that cartoon way back when. is playing in my head. LOL.
"Hey, I would like that dual 1G NIC card!" "Ok. How many rooms full of hardware do you have?" "About three, but I could fit it all into one if I wanted to!" "I'll give to someone else, I'm doing you a favor"
For me, throwing things away is a bit painful. But trying to keep it all organized is taxing. I end up spending too much time trying to organize it all and make it fit. If I have not used it in a year I try to make myself chuck it (or I put it in a donate pile that never seems to leave the garage). Fun video, thanks.
Use colors. Colored tape is enough. Make use of it just to mark things. Mark trays in colors. And then tell the people it's in XYZ in the yellow drawer.
That Number 5 model from Short Circuit under the CO2 monitor is honestly one of the coolest media set pieces you have there. I haven't seen anyone put up a Number 5 or Johnny 5 model or figure in years! Or at least one at that scale, which I think is the same replica size as the toys used in Short Circuit 2.
The thing is from listening to the tour video over on GN and watching the images the building has so much interesting character that the chaos is kind of hiding -- but in ways where it's sort of there as subtext. I wouldn't want to see a full remodel, but making the flow better to reveal some of that character would make things really shine, I think.
I have so much "This is so cool/this is a piece of history I can't get rid of it!" stuff, but I'm only 24. I imagine my place will end up like this eventually.
Steves Extreme RUclipsr Tech Studio Makeover Powered by IKEA - "Next week we will rebuild Wendell entire storage system using IKEA shelves, boxes and lights" I would watch that series any day.
how about instead of going with Ikea, inviting HUB Steve to join the party to weld, saw and screw together perfectly fitting furniture and shelves for it?
I feel like with the amount of stuff that needs organizing (see GN's video of just some of the stuff), this could be its own mini series of like 6 episodes, lol
The hard part for Wendell is going to be maintaining the space. From my own "chaos" its too easy to just let things slide and a year from now be right back where you started.
You need to put up a give away/ you pay shipping section on your site. To avoid labor issues have folks send in a box with a shipping label. Chuck it in the box and put our for UPS pickup, you get rid of junk and folks git it for the cost of shipping. If they have to provide the box, packing and return label only the folks who actually want it will get it.
i would rearrange large display(s) to have more of a continuous perspective rather than like a 3d box feeling you get now with the current setup. bscly in general improve angles of things for the camera
