    Indestructible is one of Magic's strongest abilities. After all, cards that have it can't be destroyed with damage or "destroy" effects. However, not all card with indestructible are worth playing. In fact, some of the worst cards in the game are indestructible!

    So near as I can tell, Darksteel Relic's popularity in EDH can be attributed to three things:
    1. A 0-mana spell for storm decks like Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain.
    2. A bootleg Mox for decks like Urza.
    3. A combo piece with stuff like Krark-Clan Ironworks, Emery, Lurker of the Loch, or Chain of Acid.

    Consecrate Land turns Mishra's Factory into an indestructible chump blocker, and I've survived some games in the Old School format because of it.

  • @holotori_senior_admin_teno
    @holotori_senior_admin_teno 2 месяца назад +7

    Others have mentioned Consecrate Land on creature lands, which is okay for using them as a blocker or preventing instant speed creature destruction on them. I also think it could work with a land that provides a ton of mana on its own + Armageddon type effects to create a very one sided board. Like, if you put Consecrate Land on Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx or Tolarian Academy them Armageddon, the source of those lands' mana will still be around. So your opponents will be heavily restricted and you'll be able to still add to the board.
    Though yeah, I realize none of that makes Consecrate Land great by any means. But hey, it's in the right color for Armageddon shenanigans at least!

    I can see situations where Consecrate Land would be useful. Some lands are incredibly valuable, some of which can become creatures. I've seen many decks run ways of getting rid of overpowered lands so if you run white this could be really useful to protect a Gaia's Cradle and the like.

    • @stigmaoftherose
      @stigmaoftherose 2 месяца назад +1

      The problem with the card is, land destruction isn't really good outside commander, and many many commander groups strait up refuse to play with land destruction, making the card way to niche.

    • @pw5235
      @pw5235 2 месяца назад +1

      @@stigmaoftherose While prevention against land destruction is one side of the card, putting it on a man-land that you *want* to attack with would be worth it - especially against decks that have a hard time getting rid of enchantments. Playing a Selesnya enchantment deck with Lair of the Hydra, Cave of the Frost Dragon or Restless Prairie would be a good place for this card. It was bad when initially printed when there weren't many man-lands to enchant, but they are everywhere now. If this card was available on Arena, I would craft it.

And the Dark steel relic is really probably only useful in Jhoira decks that want to draw through their entire deck in one turn

    I agree with the choices for competitive magic, but Consecrate Land IS a very useful card in my one deck (that ended up being stronger than it should be). I actually built a deck AROUND Sorrow's Path and it works surprisingly well. In fact, it works good enough, that my opponents have learned to destroy the Path as soon as it comes into play. Consecrate Land is thus able to protect the singular land the deck is built around.
    The deck was good before, but I just added Tamanoa, which is a devastating addition. Now every time the Path taps when Tamanoa is in play, I gain 2 life for EVERY creature I control, and they are all designed to be able to take a 2 hit.

    For what it's worth, I don't think the pseudo-regeneration indestructible cards should have made it here. As worded, the ability was obviously a compromise for removing regeneration from their keyword list, making it feel so out of flavor compared to how it was implemented in Darksteel.

  • @OneOfDisease
    @OneOfDisease 2 месяца назад

    Dark steel Gargoyle. You said that because it is an artifact, it is easier to deal with. I challenge that.
    Artifact removal is typically just that "destroy target artifact." There are very few artifact hate cards that "void" artifacts specifically... there was probably 1 or 2 in the dark steel set, but in all of magic, there aren't many cards to support your statement. 99.99% of cards that would send the Gargoyle to the graveyard and/or void won't care about its artifact status.

All cards are bad cards, but they seem a little stronger than the top 10 worst cards that are usually featured. Feels like these cards would beat most other worst cards in a vacuum, or rather worst card meta. Maybe I am just tricked by the fact of indestructible being a strong keyword in and of itself, but most cards here seems mostly to be inefficient rather than just worthless or directly detrimental.

    Imo Rakish Soundrel doesn't deserve to make this list. Or if it does it should only in 10th place behind relic and familiar. The card is definitely unplayable in 60 card constructed and commander, but was only bad, not unplayable, in draft. It's definitely not a card you're ever happy to be playing but it's not totally unacceptable as a 23rd card in a deck that really wants another 3 drop or has some disguise synergies. A 51.7% GIH winrate and 51.9% GNS winrate indicates that it's a bad card seeing play in bad decks. but generally isn't much worse than the rest of the decks it's seeing play in.

    Consecrate land has a single use, and that is to protect the world tree land. Other than that, it's pretty worthless to run

    Consecrate Land on your Faceless Haven after it's gotten a counter from The Book of Exalted Deeds... might not be half bad. If you're playing that kind of crap, that is. Mwahahaha

    I am 2.5 minutes in, and trying to figure out why in this video you're saying a card like necromancer's familiar is bad as a 3/1 flyer with text that's all upside when when this card enables other mechanics like madness and dredge, yet in other videos you say otherwise bad cards are good because they enable other cards to be good lol. this is why you can't go solely off pro tours, because remember, necro potence was around for a while before players realized it's power. now there are some 1 set per month, it is way easier now for good cards to get lost in the mix. everyone just assumes rares and mythics are good, so uncommons and commons are set aside with out thought of previous sets and interactions.

      I don't just go off Pro Tours, as this video clearly states.
      What makes a card bad is that it’s bad in too many situations. That's the same in every one of these videos. Almost very card can be good in the right situation or with the right set up. Those situations exist for bad cards too, but they are very rare.
      So yes, the 3/1 flyer can enable things, but it's a very poor enabler for all the reasons I mentioned.

    I watch all your videos.
    Please don't release videos in the wee hours and then have the outro be like 10x louder than the commentary. It's very jarring and I live with people.

    Need new video. This video features creature that Can become in destructible, somehow, and not creatures that are ‘indestructible’. If you had a tutor, or a trigger, that searched indestructible in your hand or deck, or ‘draw an I destructible creature’ none of these creatures could be searched. . .

    This list is not very good.
    You really had to stretch this since more than one of them didn't have inherent indestructible.
    Don't get me wrong, those cards are still not very good, but still.

      How do you think they should be pronounced? "Accursed" also has a disyllabic pronunciation but the trisyllabic one here was present in every dictionary I checked. "Aura" here sounded like /ˈɔɹ.ə/ to me which is a pretty standard English pronunciation for it (obviously this isn't the same as e.g. the Latin pronunciation of it but that's normally the case for loanwords).
