DUDE, the colors of the van, and the bronze ladder/ black wheels looks SO good.
Stumbled across this by accident.... I don't live in the USA, and I've never even seen a GMC van... but you did a seriously good job on this van. Looks awesome!
I love your van build , very nice. I also like the way you make your videos , very quiet, not a bunch of loud and unecessary rock and roll music playing in the back ground and to the point. By doing it that way it really helps the viewer pay attention to all the details of the van and appreciate it that much more. I think you may have missed your calling to become a videographer . Very well done!
Love this thing. I'm buying an AWD Safari today. Thanks for the inspiration.
We put almost 200k on an Astro, hauling 5 kids, enclosed trailer and monster custom roof box. basically it is a pick up truck with bed cover. Vortex V6 was awesome. Pulled our boat also. It was retired (sold). One of the best things is parts are readily available as they can be pulled from the million plus dead 1500 series pickups. Great Job. Kind of want one again.
I just bought one with 97,000 miles on it, this is definitely something I want to do to it. I'll for sure be watching some Fear and Loathing in it too lol.
Great rig! Not over done...but you have all the necessities for going out and exploring!
Just beautiful, those tire gave it a totally diferent looks, awesome
That bag mounted on the dash can double as a top hat for the passenger in the event of airbag deployment! Nice
Your van is awesome!
Love the paint job and the lift.
If your sliding door rear hinge is of the bolt on style, (early ones were welded), you can elongate the holes of the hinge. This will move the door away from the back tire. I’m running 255/70 16 BFG’s on mine. I’m also running the 2” body lift, journeys rear shackle/hanger kit and HD S10 leaf springs in the rear, and GM 1500 torsion keys up front. I had to trim and clearance the rear of the fender wells, but no rubbing issues.
This is Badass dude! I never liked these vans...
I sort of put them in the same class as minivans...
But now you have me looking for one! lol
I always thought out of all the minivans, these were the best looking.
Nice build dude!
thanks for the vids!!
I thought the same thing and at first it was hard for me to think how it could look good. Not to mention my friends were like what did you buy? BUT no joke I see more people getting them now because they realize they are dope plus they get great gas milage for a AWD van. There are so many out there you will find one.
How dare you
@@slayerd4th Definately! Been driving one and loving it! Hopefully you still have yours. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Man this looks great! Just ordered the 2" kit from JOR for our Astro. One of the best Safaris out there for sure!!
thanks! stay tuned ill try and get another one up soon
Sayer Danforth I CANT WAIT TO SEE MORE OF THIS VAN!!!!!! BAD ASS STRO!!!
Love the van, love Fear & Loathing too!
Reeeeally like that Rhino-liner (?) Looks amazing. You did a great job!!! I have an Astro, a 96 7 passenger. Gotta do a partial camperization to her too. Looks great Sayer. I wish I had roof racks!
Nice build. I had 95 RWD with 6" front/5" rear lift and 31x10.50's.
Your back tires rubbing are from axle wrap on acceleration. IIRC, you can move axle back 1/2" by swapping the front spring mounts from one side to the other, but I did mine in 2005 so its been a while.
easy clean simple inside build, can be converted easy to work van, tough outer look thanks 4 sharing.
Sick! We need part 3
Throw a set of extended shackles in the back. It sags back there and that would level it and give some extra clearance to stop chewing your tires. About a 30 minute job. You could also extend the rear bump stops a bit to keep from chewing them.
New sub here! Im both a van man and I live in Colorado. Nice lil rig man. I'm going to surf your other videos now and looking forward to more.
Awesome, I have those same mickey classics on my 2004 awd!! Couldn't have a better looking rim on it.
Since homeboy isn't responding to anyone asking about offset.. the wheels are pro comp 7069 16x8 backspace of 4 ..yeet
Thanks. For those wondering, from what i found it’s likely that the wheels on this van have an offset of -12.
Nice setup for your van I have a 2003 Astro all wheel drive that I am in the process of modifying
I like the roof rack how you put in on
Awesome van. Had an Astro in high school. Maybe I should find and build one
Very kool ideas here! Great van man!!!
Looks Awesome...!!! Can’t Buy Better, Great Job::::
I really like hour rig. I think one of the ways you could combat the tire issue is by putting a bigger lift on it.
I would think a 6” lift by using S-10 parts in conjunction with parts from a Journeys would help fix it. A little trimming of the wheel wells wouldn’t hurt either.
Fear and loathing!!!! RIP H.S.T.
And nice van man looks very efficient and unique
the chad it does the trick
Best movie ever!!!
This is a nice little setup. Im working on mine. Might do something similar.
I will be posting a video of my 4" lifted GMC safari soon
You got the audio problems fixed from the last video!
Do you know the back-spacing and offset on the rims? I love your setup but I def don't want rubbing on the sliding door. Looks awesome! thanks.
Hands down best feature of your van the fork holder do you know how long it takes me a locator fork or spoon throughout my bags
Great fuggin job! IMO Only thing I'd see different would be to outline the GMC on the grill in the Seafoam body color.
Great video :-)
really cool
yes!!
Try kyb heavy duty air shocks to raise the van a lil more to prevent the rubbing
get fender flares after you trim the wheel wells, it would look sick!
You can have the wheel wells rolled. They do this with Lowriders and Big rim cars.
Good luck
Tcash
i trimmed them up a bit and I don't have the issue anymore. thanks for the info. thanks of rwatching
From the side view of your awesome van, it looks like the weight of the wood shelf and storage bins is causing the back end to drop more than the rest of the van. To compensate and better distribute the weight, have you considered adding air bags to your suspension? Do you think this might help a little with the rear tire rub? I love what you've done with your Safari. I've been considering either the Chevy Astro or GMC Safari for a conversion, but I'm also checking into a custom roof top to give me stand up room inside. I love the AWD in a less costly package than the larger 4WD vans out there. Great work on your ride!
Any chance your fab guys kept the specs on your roof rack? That would really help my guys build mine. Also, how did you fit your box mounts to work around your exhaust fan cover?
Badassssssss!!
looking at astro lift videos, 5 min into this one I realized youre the blader sayer danforth lol
And the aftermarket OFFSET varied by how much compared to the stock gm 16”
Thanks!
nice video
I died when you said you broke the handle that is my luck if I’ve ever heard it 😂
Those handles love to break. I’m on my third one.
lawnmowerdude the trick is to keep it oiled. We’ll see how long the one lasts.
Whoah, what kind of paint is that? I love the matted rubbery look. The color is awesome as well.
Really enjoy this series
Clean van!
Real talents
Can that fabricator reproduce that rack?
Unique approach
Hood protectors may not be ideal astectically, but pretty common on Astros and help including windshield $$$
Rim details
Curious if stock rims may have had less fitment issues ?
Hey if you don’t mind me asking what kind of radio did you get for your van I know it’s pioneer but I can’t tell which one it looks awsome !
Can you tell me where you bought the rims? I am having a hard time finding the correct backspacing, offset, bolt pattern, etc. Looks awesome. A legend! Thanks!
sooo clean!. Did you prime under the rhino liner? did you Rhino the roof too. I'd like to get a white, do it in black Rhino and leave the roof white. nice work!
How does a lift with those tirea added, affect mpg? Always wonder about that.
Did you replace any of the rubber seals around the doors? Not the ones on the doors but the ones on the body.
I can't find them any where
Hey Sayer, Ive been looking at the 2" lift from Journeys off road. Did you add anything other then what came in the kit? Did you need to add New Shocks? Did you add a leaf in the rear? just trying to make sure I have everything I need before going into it. Emailed JOR but haven't heard anything. Appreciate any help :)
Brett
Hi Sayer,
What are the rims that you have? Also, what offset and width are you running?
For your sliding door clearance, I believe there has been a few folks on astrosafari that have been able to increase the clearance between the van and the sliding door. I am not exactly how they are doing it, but look around the site and I am sure you can find it.
Hey nice van.
Where did you get your roof rack? ?
Hi sayer I just found out my Dads Father was From Springfield Illinois when I find out more I'll let you know Take care
Is the Astro AWD system a full-time system? is there a low gear?
Awesome rack and ladder, where can you buy these?
make some more videos about your van! buying one myself soon
Tyler Robinson almost done. Just a few things needed. It will be up in a month or so.
Hint : Rolling inner fender wells...
Insert wood baseball bat at point of contact roll seam up and away...
2nd person operates rig between drive + reverse.
1st person work bat.
Hi, very nice build, only thing what I think can be better is the roofcase. I really don't like the looks of this plastic Thule on the van. I got a deckline, Belgian quality, unbreakable, great design to put on this van. greetings
See if you can do a barn door conversion
Sosos
Enjoyed all three videos
Clean and unique fit- out
Still a fan of your tire choice?
2004 le awd g-80. Rust free AZ
Lifted
Need tires ASAP
Did you add a 5th matched tire in the original spot with another rim🤔
Thanks
What is the offset of your wheels? I have a slider on my 1500 express and am facing the dilemma of wanting stance while not having the door be obstructed.
Is the van painted with bed liner?
Hey! Wicked van, I am currently searching for some new rims for my Astro. What offset are your rims?
Do you know what the backspacing is on those wheels? Im in the search for an AWD Astro and wheels & tires are on the list but i dont want to end up with the door rubbing issue like youve got.
How do you stay warm in the winter time?
That's a Sweet AWD Ride Brother Mine is 03 250k Chevy Astro 2wd Cargo # LuLu Kayak Base-camp ;) instant sub
Any planned update for year end?
What kinda mpg do you get with this setup?
Hey I'm interested in building an Astro. I am wondering what offset your wheels are? I just don't want to get too much of an offset and not be able to open the door.
Do you know what offset your rims are? that is the look i'm going for as well.
Where did you get your seat covers?
Where’d you get the ladder?
Curse of the pot metal handles!!!! First time I've seen the back door handle break. Usually it's the front doors. Van looks good!
We need an update
You just need to add the Journey's off road 3-5" lift instead of the 2' - that will solve the wheel well rubbing problem and possibly the sliding door issue. Also, Mike at Journey's might be willing to replace your existing 2" lift shackles. The offset is best with Jeep wheels and spacers or factory GMC rims with 235 75 15. Looks good!
Journey's make these springs that should take care of the issue. check out my next video for updates on that. (coming soon)
would love to see the update! really like the size of your lift. looking to do a similar size lift and tire.
Yea, he needs the forward spring perches. Journeys sells the spring perches in the 3-5" lift, but you can still run the factory ride height hole. The spring perch eliminates the large rubber bushings that allow a bit of play in the leaf springs, it also adjusts the leafs back a bit to center the wheels/rear end in the wheel well.
I'd also advise to get some adjustable shocks, something that lets to tighten the bounce a little so the wheels don't come so close to the wheel well so easily.
I'm working on one too. What did you end up doing for wheel wells?
i trimmed the wells just a little. then journey offroad has some springs that help pull it more center. ill show in my next video. coming soon
Are there any plans or anything for that roof rack? Any for the ladder?
2019....
Part. III ?
Outstanding work!!
If I wanted to throw the same tires on mines.. What do I need to do/know?
you got to have a little lift to have those wheels fit. they won't fit on stock hight. get the journeys 2in body lift. they also make some springs/ bushings that help offset so the tires won't rub. though you might still need to trim a little interior of the fender. but its not hard and pretty standard when putting on bigger tires.
Thanks, my kind of video. I'm about to buy a 2005 Safari AWD, and will be doing a 2" lift. I'm wondering about wheels & tires....I'd like to avoid any rubbing, so is there a tire that is SLIGHTLY smaller?
I'm not sure what the factory wheel size is, but mine are the steel ones, so wondering if sandblasting & painting (or powder-coating) those would be a good way to go, or should they be replaced with alloy wheels, and of a different size?
Watch the 3rd video cause I install the springs in the rear that would have prevented any rubbing. Those tires are the best fit for the van you won't have any issues if you get the lift and springs together. Also get some slightly longer rear shocks and reroute your rear brake line so it fits with the lift. These are all the things I did and have plenty of room and ride is great.
Do you know your wheel offset? I'm building my own adventure safari and want a little more meat in the wheel wells, but I'm not a fan of the look of the all terrains on a stock wheel offset. They look like they could be 0 maybe?
TV in 2019?
Where did you find the ladder? Is that the journeys roof rack?
Could you link to your wheels? What size did you get? What's the offset?
Drew Ayrit I am also wondering this. Would like to know the offset especially
pro comp 7069 16x8 backspace of 4
That sucks for the dent and the tires! Hope the fix would be too costly!
How much money did the whole project cost?
Sheeeshh where do you get wheels like these their beautiful
discount tire!
Rim size ?
16x8 or 16x9 ??
Can u open the side door without issues with that setup u have now ??
Does the cargo box cover or affect the roof fan?
I too was wondering this
Where did u get roof?
Flare out the outside wheel well area n you should be good to go.
Does anyone know what rims those are or have a link?
But is it stealth though? Lol I’m torn between going with a badass similar off-road style or completely white with a company decal
Like the movie Sneakers. Police servaliance style. I like it.
