We have ate this for yrs , we always called it ' buttered bread with a hole in it, with an egg, lightly fried in a pan, with added oil, butter, and a touch of salt ' !
I live in Florida USA, I am 43 and my Grand Mother use to make this for me when I was a young boy. She would use what we would call Texas toast (thick bread) and buttered. To this day I make it for my children, a dish that always takes me back to my youth. Melt the butter and wipe it on the bread after cutting the whole. This adds an amazing amount of flavor, depending on your choice of butter.
+kloppskalli it's absolutely fine unless you actually try to scrape off things that stuck to the pan. Case and point: he probably didn't use a new pan for this and he probably does this every time and the pan doesn't seem to be scratched.
oh my goodness, I have never had this this way, so I just made it, and it is AWESOME. I love eggs anytime of the day or night. I even buttered the cut out piece and cooked it too. no waste of anything. Thanks so much Naked Chef
Hi! Just a tip from Jacque Pepin: You shouldn't crack the egg with the edge of something such as the silverware you used or the edge of a bowl. This is because the thing you're using will push pieces of shell into the egg, thus having shell in your food. You should rather use a flat surface to break the egg against, such as a countertop! Hope this helps!
Dear Mr. Chef, Hola Amigo! I love this idea, and I like how clearly you've presented it. I shall try this tomorrow morning. Thanks again, blessing, pierre from New Mexico U.S.
We called it egg in the hole too, but we would sandwich two slices of bread together before cutting the hole out and frying and dropping the egg in. The bread cut out for the hole would be used to dip in the yolk and we often added a spoonful of baked beans on the side.
when I was little my Dad used to make these and he called them his " egg wizz bangs" 😄sometimes he would ad spice to the bread while it was cooking too like nutmeg or cayenne pepper. 😆
It's cockney, usually form East London or Essex. They are well-known for speaking poor English. It is funny though :-D I teach English to foreign students' and none of them would understand this - especially the poor use of grammar (not meaning to sound offensive).
I made this recipe about a week ago came out so yummy my kids loved it and they are picky! I used ur advice and used diff shape cut outs for them and they thought it was so much fun! Make more videos !!!!! We love them
Tonithenightowl - I fry them up in the butter on the pan when I make mine. :) you get that nice crunch, or a nice buttery bread to soak in the runny yolk.
Great video, you're the first person I've seen make this outside of my own family. We call it eggs in the basket in my family. You cooked it nice, i would give you one tip is to save the cut out circle, butter it and toast it in the pan as well and serve with the egg. Dunking it in the egg is the best part.
Growing up, my mom would make these for breakfast on the weekends. One of the first "dishes" she taught me to make and we had fun making them together :)
Best way to do it. Put a pat of cold butter in a hot pan, it'll brown slightly right away and give that nutty browned butter flavor to the bread. You also don't have to worry about shredding your bread to pieces trying to spread cold butter on it.
Hello I have a couple of comments I do not waste Olive oil for frying, Especially extra virgin. I keep that for flavoring things like salad dressings. I use Rapeseed oil for cooking unless I want a different flavour in which case I use Sesame oil. When frying bread you should always get the oil hot or it soaks into the bread which in just nasty. Once it is sealed you can reduce the heat and yes I do add butter to taste I always add salt and pepper when cooking eggs. I would not waste my time cooking this I would either cook the fried bread and at the same time poach a couple eggs or toast the bread whilst frying or poaching a couple eggs It looks good but takes to much time Personally I make a fried cheese sandwich (Made with Fresh thick cut Harvest Grain bread and Extra mature Cheddar cheese Cooked in Rapeseed oil with a little Sesame seed oil) and a couple of poached eggs on top with just a dash of ketchup Andy C
Rapeseed is the traditional name; it never sold particularly well until some marketing genius redubbed it "canola". The rest is history. There is no difference.
My mother made this when I was a kid. Our family called it a Bird's Nest. This use to be the only way I would eat an egg and actually enjoy it. Thanks for the video.
This is better if you skip the olive oil and just butter both sides of your bread. I also must add you did a good job on the video but I had to turn the video off the second you started talking with your mouth full. that smacking noise people make when they tlk with there mouth full is disgsting and why i do not understand people who eat in a video. Didn't your mother ever teach you to chew with your mouth closed?
My Pal Thomas I suppose we can all be a critic, like you. Being a critic over petty things, is not called for, & is rude. YOU made a huge error in spelling. "tlk with there mouth...." Should've been spelled, *their.* You also left out a few commas, as well as, not ending sentences properly. That lead to the error of properly placed periods. Continue on with critiquing. Sarah Rhynes Ha! So wild! When I read just your comment in my notifications, I thought to myself, hhmmmm, I wonder which political board was I on? I can't wait to discover what ass I've set straight today!! LOL!! Now, I see it was about that critical ass, that just had to be rude about the way the person prepared their eggs!! LOL!! Thanks for reminding me that everything doesn't always have to be about politics. Have a great day. :-)

1. Agreed 2. Agreed, you do not put a fat on fat. 3. You can either use a glass or a cookie cutter, what's the difference? Cool, thanks. I'm 10 years old and I can cook pretty well. I'm planning to make this for my brother on his birthday. You know, breakfast in bed. I totally wanna try it out first though. I'm gonna make this for breakfast tomorrow since we just ran out of bread. Thanks!

We made this growing up in South Louisiana and called it "egg in the hole." It even helped me win first place in the Girl Scout cooking competition when I was nine years old!

+Sevin Poe your dad was a badass lol
We have ate this for yrs , we always called it ' buttered bread with a hole in it, with an egg, lightly fried in a pan, with added oil, butter, and a touch of salt ' !

Hy Jinx I was yolking !
+Hy Jinx MERIKA! FUK YE!
+Chris Davies what do you call 'eggs benedict'?
river rat We used to call it eggy, hammy, hollandaisey muffins, or breky.
35 years on this planet and I've never ever seen this before! Gonna make it this weekend :)
I live in Florida USA, I am 43 and my Grand Mother use to make this for me when I was a young boy. She would use what we would call Texas toast (thick bread) and buttered. teflon pan and metal spoon? ...
kloppskalli I kept thinking that while watching the video too.
+kloppskalli it's absolutely fine unless you actually try to scrape off things that stuck to the pan. Case and point: he probably didn't use a new pan for this and he probably does this every time and the pan doesn't seem to be scratched.
+Cooking With Cows ito
+kloppskalli Decent pans aren't made with Teflon anymore. Non-stick pans can't be easily scratched.
+kloppskalli Same thought. I have one of those green non-stick pans that you see around, but I mostly do mine on smooth vintage cast iron.
You cut a hole in a slice of bread and crack in an egg while frying...saved humanity 4 minutes and 27 seconds
and he ate it without putting any salt & pepper on it--I guess he never tasted an egg before
i love you ^
Mel Bernstein I actually used to drizzle syrup on this.
my first ever seeing this was in v for vendetta years ago and i just now tried it and it was great
oh my goodness, I have never had this this way, so I just made it, and it is AWESOME. I love eggs anytime of the day or night. I even buttered the cut out piece and cooked it too. no waste of anything. Thanks so much Naked Chef

We call this "egg in a hole"
we call it egg in a blanket
Egg in a window
+sinbo V A wagon wheel or a bird's nest. Now that I think about it though calling it a birds nest is kind of morbid.
+CoolAsFinnBro Growing up my mom always called these "jiggers." I guess that's they called them in South Carolina.
We called it egg in the hole too, but we would sandwich two slices of bread together before cutting the hole out and frying and dropping the egg in. The bread cut out for the hole would be used to dip in the yolk and we often added a spoonful of baked beans on the side.
THIS LOOKS DELICIOUS!! Maybe I can make some next morning!
i made it, it was good :)
Today, we're gonna show you how to make The Morning Gloryhole
XDDD
I have made this for a long time, I take the circles and toast them and put any breakfast condiment on top. So good.
when I was little my Dad used to make these and he called them his " egg wizz bangs" 😄sometimes he would ad spice to the bread while it was cooking too like nutmeg or cayenne pepper. 😆
That looks delish, and easy to make as well. Going to try in for breakfast in the morning.
in my country we call this abducted egg in prison of bread tortured with fire
+inkey2 Some ISIS country?
+inkey2
Columbia?
+Tomek_PL ISIS country? dude wtf what made you think it was relevant to say that?
no no....ths is wot we call it in mi country. You first abduct the egg violently. Place in isolated bread prison and throw on flaming surface of rock
Lol
Your enthusiasm is what makes these videos a joy to watch. And they are. Thank you.
I love how you say butter 😂🤘🏻 (not being sarcastic)
Veronika Gotovac omg yas

It's cockney, usually form East London or Essex. They are well-known for speaking poor English. It is funny though :-D I teach English to foreign students' and none of them would understand this - especially the poor use of grammar (not meaning to sound offensive).
That looks very delicious, I will try it. I've never seen anyone or any restaurant here in the USA even attempt this.
I'm gona hollow out that massive loaf of bread you had, then I'm gona stuff an ostrich egg in there, & boil it in olive oil.
😂
Have you never heard of something called deep frying?
I love this. When I make it, I spread butter on the round piece and brown it in a separate skillet because I don't want to waste it.
I make this a lot and you don't need fancy cutters just use a cup to make the hole
Sarah Rhynes thanks man 👍🏽
Josiah Pascual no problem
I made this recipe about a week ago came out so yummy my kids loved it and they are picky! I used ur advice and used diff shape cut outs for them and they thought it was so much fun! Make more videos !!!!! We love them
I killed a lion then I killed a goat
Don't forget to toast those cut out bread pieces especially if you like em dippy.:o)
oml..hahaha
Tonithenightowl - I fry them up in the butter on the pan when I make mine. :) you get that nice crunch, or a nice buttery bread to soak in the runny yolk.
Sounds like a plan to me and much better than plain old toast lol :o)
Nope I'm an American but nice to know the Fins also know NOT to waste. :o)
Great video, you're the first person I've seen make this outside of my own family. We call it eggs in the basket in my family. You cooked it nice, i would give you one tip is to save the cut out circle, butter it and toast it in the pan as well and serve with the egg. Dunking it in the egg is the best part.
Needs some Tabasco on it. It would be the way I like it.

Overstreet Cycles I love cholula haha
Growing up, my mom would make these for breakfast on the weekends. One of the first "dishes" she taught me to make and we had fun making them together :)
It's the ole egg in a basket.
Very nice! My late husband raised in the OZARKS taught me that. He called it a Hobo egg. :-)
Why not just butter the pan?
bread would be burnt
Best way to do it. Put a pat of cold butter in a hot pan, it'll brown slightly right away and give that nutty browned butter flavor to the bread. You also don't have to worry about shredding your bread to pieces trying to spread cold butter on it.
yum. Like it. I'm a real fan of eggs so nice to see something new. Thanks.
Hello
I have a couple of comments
I do not waste Olive oil for frying, Especially extra virgin. I keep that for flavoring things like salad dressings. I use Rapeseed oil for cooking unless I want a different flavour in which case I use Sesame oil.
When frying bread you should always get the oil hot or it soaks into the bread which in just nasty. Once it is sealed you can reduce the heat and yes I do add butter to taste
I always add salt and pepper when cooking eggs.
I would not waste my time cooking this I would either cook the fried bread and at the same time poach a couple eggs or toast the bread whilst frying or poaching a couple eggs
It looks good but takes to much time
Personally I make a fried cheese sandwich (Made with Fresh thick cut Harvest Grain bread and Extra mature Cheddar cheese Cooked in Rapeseed oil with a little Sesame seed oil) and a couple of poached eggs on top with just a dash of ketchup
Andy C
Want a cookie?
Rapeseed oil? Yo i gotta get me sum of that
ANDREW CULLEN Rapeseed oil? Isn't that ordinary canola oil, and the rapeseed, just one of the franken foods that makes the GMO food list.
He sounds like Murdoc from Gorillaz XD
I'd watch it!
Cringe Master I couldn't help but just imagine him making it the whole time XD
id thougt I'll try something new and quick before school and this is the food it tastes amazing thanku so much
You wasted half the bread. Why not just have egg and toast?
Exactly. Among all the other names "waste of bread" fits nicely.
I butter both sides of the piece of bread that is cut out and fry it along with the piece of bread with the egg inside. No waste of bread then. :)
+Evie Hammond (truefeather77) so tru
Or do fry it too and make a little French toast or cinnamon toast
+Evie Hammond (truefeather77) I toast the extra piece of bread. Kids love those pieces too.
Can't believe I never thought of making this, can't wait to try it. Thanks for this great idea.
Eggcellent video...poor joke I know 😂
Lol

Spelling is not your thing, I guess.
How is it a waste? You fry the circle of bread on the side and dip it in the yolk...or in my case, dip it in your coffee!!! Soooooo delish
I love eggs and this way makes my life easier, exellent. Thanks my friend
how to make an inbred egg
All your recipe's are fantastic thank you..!♥
looks good but the way he chews has scarred me.
Wish he could eat as well as he cooks. I felt the same way. A real turn off.
Just had this for my breakfast it was delicious and so quick and easy thank you original naked chef 😊Amanda xx🍞🍳
This is better if you skip the olive oil and just butter both sides of your bread. I also must add you did a good job on the video but I had to turn the video off the second you started talking with your mouth full. that smacking noise people make when they tlk with there mouth full is disgsting and why i do not understand people who eat in a video. Didn't your mother ever teach you to chew with your mouth closed?
stfu you girl
My Pal Thomas
I suppose we can all be a critic, like you. Being a critic over petty things, is not called for, & is rude.
YOU made a huge error in spelling. "tlk with there mouth...." Should've been spelled, *their.*
You also left out a few commas, as well as, not ending sentences properly.
That lead to the error of properly placed periods.
Continue on with critiquing.
Fun, isn't it?
Have a wonderful day.
Such a hard life for you My Pal Thomas, deal with it !
D Hoosier OMG your so savage hahah love it that was amazing lol
Sarah Rhynes
Ha! So wild! When I read just your comment in my notifications, I thought to myself, hhmmmm, I wonder which political board was I on? I can't wait to discover what ass I've set straight today!! LOL!! Thanks for reminding me that everything doesn't always have to be about politics. Have a great day.
:-)
Your videos are so simple and easy to understand! Keep up the good work!
" grab me egg " always cringe when British people say me instead of my .
Mama used to call it a hole in the head. We used a juice glass to cut the hole and you have to toast the center piece as well. Good stuff!
The video was good other than the parts when he just chews.like that's just nasty
+Trolling God I'm pretty sensitive to the lip smacking myself. If you really want to go berserk, watch one of the "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern" videos. It's the not the bizarre foods I have a problem with, it's the doggone lip smacking.
Definitely tomorrow morning. Many thanks, chef.

+Nell Mcilroy You do know that you both are of the same race right?
Unless I've been asleep and missed something. Has the definition of "race" changed?
True, English bread is like cardboard, tasteless.
FYI, many folks call this "toad in the hole." You make it look so easy - I think I'm finally going to try it!
Bread with an egg dropped in the middle like this is also called "Eggs in a Hole" or "Eggs in a Basket" here in the United States.
Do they? For me, "toad in the hole" is sausages in Yorkshire pudding batter.
1. Metal spatula on non stick pan, bad idea.
2. Olive oil when your cooking with butter is overkill.
3. use shot glasses for hole, not cookie cutter.
4. how the fuck you gonna cut out holes with your finger?
absolutely right on all points. also clarified butter or ghee pairs with eggs way way better.
Well it's obvious the guy was just trying to share information. Obviously this puzzles people on how to make it. Which you've shown that Ur not quite culinary inclined either. So shut the fuck up. If you want a scratched up non stick pan and use metal go for it. Of you want oily toast and eggs then go for it. Poking a whole isn't sanitary and it's ugly. It's unnecessary and gross. My guess is you cook this on your engine in the summer, while trolling comments that are smarter than yours. Either way go fuck yourself.
Oh my fireballs can you stop being so racist
vu anh I think you're drunk trolling the wrong comment.
1. Agreed
2. Agreed, you do not put a fat on fat.
3. You can either use a glass or a cookie cutter, what's the difference? I'm in a Culinary class and we've been taught that if we don't have a cookie/biscuit cutter on hand, just use a glass.
4. I'm not exactly sure?
As you can see, I agree with on all or most of your points, but I don't appreciate you being an ass about it. How are you being an ass about it? I read your second comment, not cool dude.

Commenting on a person's video that someone else does it better is quite rude.

This is so cool. I have to try thing
I learned this one back in the early 70's. We called it a "one eyed egyption". Nothing against Egyptions, mind you. It's easy, quick and delish.
Use a bigger pan with lower sides, makes it easier to turn. Also use more butter, makes the bread crisper.
Never seen this before, I am going to try it NOW.
IDK how I stumbled across your video but I'm now looking for more. Can't help but be enamored by your finger use---I do the same thing and have never seen anyone else do it. For that, my friend, you rock! :D
BTW, Egg-in-the-hole is super better when 2 slices of bacon are criss-chrossed atop it and cheese is melted above it all. Just saying...extra YUM!!!
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this recipe I use this all the time now
its a nice colesteral bready egg Breakfast :) Thanks for the Idea !!
OMG I cannot wait to try this tomorrow for lunch!!!!
