I know! I love it. Funny enough, at home I’m cooking up a ‘66 Barracuda in a similarly stripped, down and dirty style that will sit high and look awesome, and 70s tastic. That’s the car I really want to line up with Tony, but it’s very far from ready.
1978, 39 Chevy, hopped up 235 inline 6, 4 speed, heavy flywheel. Cecil County dragway, V8 Vega in the other lane, 4 grand clutch dump, lifted one front tire, ripped the yoke off the rear. Went 30 feet. Played Frisbee till the two truck got there. Thanks for reminding me of of great days gone by.
Back in the 70s my buddies and I all raced 340 Dusters and Demons. Three of us had automatics. One had a stick. We were running high to mid 11 seconds running Super Stock, so yes, they were built up. My friend with the stick blew up his 8-3/4" after a dozen runs or so. Our automatics never broke anything. Not even one 727. He immediately installed a Dana 60 and never broke it. He would eventually be running 10.50's. He even had the original W2 heads. This was around 1973. Bottom line your slicks are working great. Try about a 6,000 rpm hole shot so you have a little slippage with the slicks. Less strain on your drivetrain. Good luck in the future.
When you are working on the rear diff. you may want to replace the broken bolt on the driver's side spring clamp. I mentioned it on a previous video, but I believe it was on the Mopar Joe's site. Don't want it falling off and causing damage to anyone following you.

I had watched UTG just a while ago then kind of knocked out some work. Up pops you're video. This car is so cool ...I never really knew the rarity of those with a stick. Explained why I never see them arround. I've been driving "A" body's like since forever (early mid eighty's) first Duster stick 340 390's this went to my second. I had switched bodies in the mid 90's to another Duster. Both 71's then about 2000 I had switched bodies to a 67 Barracuda. This was knocked out of the picture in 2019. Not long after I went to the Barracuda I started to stack the gear ratios up to save the engine. Never did much with that car though it was a dream car for some reason. ...(I come to find out I didn't like the notchback the rear panel was like a reversed paratute and the vacuum back there would break from side to side at freeway speeds.,miserable it would kind of jitter this way and that and on long freeway drives it would drive me nuts keeping the car pointed down the road) But I'm a Plymouth guy and I never really paid attention to Dodges for some reason. I know about the start of the 90's the value went up like crazy but I just kind of like the damn things. B5 Blue this car is gasim material to be sure. UTG's car? I've always missed that one. That Valiant is a true schleprock but I've never seen it go before so I shouldn't speak. Funky damn thing though.
So many wins in this video. The fact she didn't want to race Tony this time just means you have to come back and do it again! And yeah - like you say in the next video, I definitely agree the rear tyres were under inflated. Dunno if they are meant to flex that much, eh! The fronts were either off the ground by a touch or were so close to it that is makes no matter.....and she's certainly up to the task if you bring spare driveshafts! All the best
All I’ll say is that it’s not as nice as it looks on camera, and this is what it was built to do in the 70s. Also, it’s absolutely not going to be a hard core racer, or go out and do this all the time. That’s what my Barracuda is for. Haha. But it wasn’t ready in time for this trip by a long way. Thanks!
Well that was fun! As you can see, racing a 4 speed car, it’s more fun, but carnage is never far away. But did I mention it’s more fun? You really have to have confidence to actually drive your car to the track, unless home is within pushing distance.
Epic adventure Jamie. You are a winner accomplishing what was a large effort on your part under time constraints. You getting to hang with fellow you-tubers was the icing on the cake ,so to say.🙂🐏
I have a whole stack of old cars illustrated magazines, Tony was all over those, he's the person responsible for myself selling my Road Runner and buying a Mustang, wish I still had both of them, I have a craving for a vintage Mopar, but unfortunately they are way out of my price range these days.... so I had to make due and by a Vette, C4's are dirt cheap right now, so I bought one, but it still doesn't stop the craving for a vintage Mopar... You did well, you made a challenge , you showed up and you did your best. You and your Demon are still both Bad Ass, get some more practice on your launch and bait Tony out here next time!
That poor rear end took a major beat down I am surprised nothing broke on the first or second run you got to remember that your on a prepped track with slicks the only thing that will have any give is the drive line and you found your weak link. That's racing for you if you not breaking stuff your not trying hard enough.
I enjoy watching you and Uncle Tony get together, whether by video or in person. A fun time. I hope from time to time you both can get together and continue sharing information. Sucks about the diff but still a good time all in all.
Well a new dif and you can do the 5000 mile drive again in a few weeks...lol I do believe at the track with mopar Joe on one of the passes you got the front wheels off the ground at least drivers side
If it didn’t lift, it was *so* close. You have no idea how excited I am about that. I have been hoping to put together a car to pull paper slippers for several years now. Life goal achieved.
That was a valiant effort. Or actually a demonic effort but you learned a lot and had an amazing experience and had so much fun. That's what life is all about (having great stories). Well done sir. Have a safe trip back to the west coast!
This car will *NEVER* have an automatic. And neither will my Barracuda. I have no interest in that. My interest lies in making the four speed work. I hope that makes sense.
It seems that there are 2 types in racing, builders and drivers because each needs so much experience that doing one well leaves little time for the other. Now either one can be owners but must hire the other to get the job done well.
Reminds me of those days in the 60s! I broke things. Took out my rear when I hit second my first time on slicks, and it was embarrassing coasting down the track, especially being a grudge race, oh and the red light on that pass as well!!! You know, I still had a blast!!!!
The fact that you just put the Ramp truck together and made it 2700 miles is a big Win!!! The rest is just icing on the cake, even if it's melted!
Exactly!! That’s what I’m saying!

741 742 t not hooking up with a 4 speed nope that,s why 489 came in to play poor man,s DANA. long Drive well on in good fun
The 489 is on the floor at home with the good gears
Great Presentation ! I enjoyed that !
Well even though a bit of a Dunkirk poor car you had heaps of fun and gave it a go it was fun watching the prep with Joe good on ya
I was just amazed it held up for the first two launches. Nice work!
It’s sooooo painful for me to watch rare cars get beat like this😢 I prefer to beat beaters, thx for taking us along Jamie!
Thanks!
A ramp truck is an awesome resource.
Well that was fun! As you can see, racing a 4 speed car, it’s more fun, but carnage is never far away. But did I mention it’s more fun? You really have to have confidence to actually drive your car to the track, unless home is within pushing distance.
Yeah, I’m not there for a two hour drive even. Haha.
The Demon looked/sounded great going down the track. To bad the rear end decided to quit on the last run.
Well Done 👏 ✔️ 👍
No need to be mad. All is good. We all had alot of fun.👍
Looked like FUN!
Epic adventure Jamie. You are a winner accomplishing what was a large effort on your part under time constraints. You getting to hang with fellow you-tubers was the icing on the cake ,so to say.🙂🐏
Oh yeah. I’m very, very happy.
We will! I agree. It’s unfortunate it happened right then. But I had an awesome time.
For a guy with under 15 runs you did good. I have never run the drag strip but have several friends that do. I can't wait to see the carnage video.
Thank you for your courage!
Making it 2,700 miles is a good thing....the Demon still on the back when you arrived?
Even better 👍🤣
😅
You know what? I'm happy as hell for ya man, what an epic trip!
Hell yea totally worth it! Looks like a good time was had by all
That was a valiant effort. Or actually a demonic effort but you learned a lot and had an amazing experience and had so much fun. That's what life is all about (having great stories). Well done sir. Have a safe trip back to the west coast!
Thank you!
Yup I said have Prudence where a cape and cowl....all in fun...good content and thanks 🔧🔧🐐👍
She’s still wearing the scarf my daughter made her when she was like five. Haha. But I agree, that probably would have made the difference.
Awesome all around. But dude, a beefed up automatic is the way to go. That Demon will run, no question.
This car will *NEVER* have an automatic. And neither will my Barracuda. I have no interest in that. My interest lies in making the four speed work. I hope that makes sense.
Great job soon as I get my 71 scamp finished with a 354 hemi I want to try that
It seems that there are 2 types in racing, builders and drivers because each needs so much experience that doing one well leaves little time for the other.
You got to have your cake and drink it too 😋. Sorry about the Demon Jamie
It’s all good! We can rebuild.
You did for the Best youtube content of the week, and a cake!
Well done fella! 😊
