Still one of my favourite tracks, I showed this to a business client of mine recently and she spent the first half of the song with her jaw on the floor, when I asked her if she liked it all she could do was nod.

Good reaction - now you need to see (and mainly hear) a real live performance - this video had the studio audio dubbed over the live performance from the Legend 1997 concert - that was the world debut for this song.
Their performance on the Stephen Colbert show in the US would be a good one for you - very small performance area so they have the Kami Band up close behind them with Mikio Fujioka (RIP) doing the guitar solo, Hideki Aoyama on drums singing along, BOH being BOH and Takayoshi Ohmura rocking out.
This was the video that went viral in 2014 - mainly for the WTF reactions it got - that got them noticed more internationally and which they used as a springboard for their first 'world' tour later that year.
The two extremes of the thrash metal and very poppy chorus almost clashing in this song rather than being blended more smoothly like they are in some of their other songs was deliberate.

For Akatsuki live at Budokan 2014 is pretty good, but there should also be a compilation for the 10 Babymetal Budokan from 2021.
Starlight has a MV without the girls, if you want a live version you could go for a compilation or for the BabyMetal Reactor Resource channel.

Welcome back JoJo. Good to see you finally get around to Gimme Chocolate, it really is one of Babymetal's top 5 signature songs.
Have you decided if you are going to watch the longer version of Cryptic Misery's Guide to Babymetal? The short version really just brushes over some stuff and doesn't cover other stuff at all. If you are interested in how steeped Babymetal is in their lore then you should have a look at the longer version, even if you do it in your own time and not as a reaction. It will help you understand some of their songs better, particularly some from Metal Galaxy. It is also just a pretty cool, imaginative and fictitious backstory.

You perfectly got the spirit and the intention of the song. It's a fun song about the girls wanting to eat chocolate but being a little worried about their weight... but it's chocolate! Definitely on their poppier side despite the really down-tuned guitars ana that nasty distorted solo. This song tends to polarize people and I totally understand it. I'm so glad this wasn't my first BABYMETAL song. But, once you are familiar with BABYMETAL, you learn that it's all about having fun and to enjoy this song, specially live.
I love the way that so many BABYMETAL songs are just about having some fun. I feel like it makes the songs better
@@JoJoLewis On the surface this song is just a fun song. However, to paraphrase Elvis Costello: "... if I have to tell you a song is subversive, then it's not subversive".
Apart from it's light and fluffy side, Gimme Chocolate also touches on the issues of body image and fat shaming, and may have a very subtle slap at the conservative, patriarchal and gender biased Japanese Valentines Day Tradition of Giri Choco (Obligation Chocolates).
Babymetal often pen songs that resonate with their target audience, at this time in their career they were very much targeting young people, particularly young teen girls with the view of introducing them to the metal genre. As such, they created music that was relevant to their target audience (and often in the media around the time of the song's writing); i.e. bullying (in IDZ), body image and Giri Choco in Gimme Chocolate; or Hitori Kakurenbo (Hide and Seek Alone), which I believe is part of the motivation for their writers penning the (on the surface) children's game song Catch Me If You Can.
Anyway, I digress. Nice reaction. Babymetal are the perfect example of what a live experience should be. Are you not entertained? lol. What a great tune. The song is about wanting chocolate but then they get worried about their weight, so they don't want to eat it. Recently I realized that the start of the song I've been told Yui and Moa are making the sound s kids make for guns in Japan. This changed things for me. They're not asking for chocolate they're demanding your chocolate at gun point in a kid Kawaii way. They eat the chocolate by the end of the song and are so happy they toot their horns. Best song about chocolate everrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
