Having never played this far into the game I can say it's much more complex than I ever thought! Thanks for the longplay.

Whatever they lacked in terms of soundtrack, story, dialogue... silmarils games always were stunningly beautiful and athmospheric.

I feel like this is the lesser episode of the 3 (or 4, counting Crystal). :/
Mainly because you don't "lead" the adventure/investigation, in this one : you just stumble on NPCs telling you exactly where the gates are, what hour to come, what's your next quest.
And the delivery is so anti climatic !!
"A great astonishing and daunting planetary conjonction is about to .... oh, wait, the gate is here. Go in and transform a racoon."
No sound effect, it's just right there, spoonfed to you, like most things in this episode. :(
In first 2 episodes, you had to struggle, to get to Korgh or get the legendary Grim family out of their respective curses, reading between the lines, it was a journey.
You had the main role in that. You got objectives, mysteries, stakes.
You had to battle and solve enigmas, to get to new islands, to overcome weird obstacles, and find and fight the bigger evil.
Here, you're just some kind of assistant, you don't solve much, you're told most of the stuff, and the rest just drop at your feet without any build-up.
(that second crystal, my god... * facepalm *)
Far less enigmas, far less fantastically exotic boss fight, re-hash of a lot of stuff from previous episodes...
I think it's because of the ambitious new graphics, that may have taken all efforts and space available.
    But still.
The 7 gates pitch was awesome, to craft mythical enigmas and inquiries to progress through the game.
Could have unleashed so many new ideas!
Pass a gate, and you're stuck in the middle of a desert with 3 suns burning you until you find your way out.
Pass another, and you're out on a distant alien world full of cunning and treacherous humanoid wizards clans competing for power and corruption. (will you survive the "go talk to this or that guy" trail of deceptions ?)
Another one could have led you to a splendid cave until you reach the dwarf stronghold to get out.
A "breathe under water" potion or spell could have helped you solve the 4th gate in an underwater/bottom of ocean quest with sirens.
5th gate into... same main city, or is it a subtly different alternate/clone dimension, where a rogue villain play hide & seek and back & forth towards the 2 colliding cities to prevent you from getting to the 6th gate ?
And imagine of the 6th one happen to make you release Shandar or Korgh, in the past & old dungeons you already know, in a "it was all your fault, in truth, but you couldn't know at the time" twist ?
And how about a time mechanic, to leave objects in the past to solve present riddles and challenges ? (like a "grow a tree, grow a forest" or "bury a treasure/weapon" one ?)
So many affordable and original ideas they could have go to...
But re-using 2 woods, the mountain, a couple and a racoon, and spoonfed progress, snif... nope, sorry, lesser episode in my heart. :'(

I think in the same way. I just finished the third ishar and really, this game was really full of errors, no wonder the franchise died after that...

    • @billedefoudre
      @billedefoudre 3 года назад +1

@@manoel.nogueira I think it didn't HAD to die, Silmarils could have come back easily from this, learning from their experiments with the serie.
But I'd like to hear their creators talking about their choices and problems during the making of this specific one, yes.
Then again : they almost didn't had ANY clue about what they were making, back in those days.
I heard many game creators of that era, Silmarils included, explain they were improvising a whole lot, and without any feedback to build upon, back in those days.
So I can picture the team getting too hyped about trying new graphic experiments and just forgetting all the rest, lol xD

Moreover there are only 4 gates in this game. Where are the other 3? It seems like much more content was planned here but eventually cut, that's also probably why the 2nd crystal is simply given to you by the mage.

hehe - i kinda liked it this way. back then, my english was poor and having to guess or "deduce" things in games always took me a really long time, often leading me to give up (you couldn't just "google" the solution back then - you had to wait for a walkthrough to be published in a paper magazine 😀 ... which you probably know. but anyway - kudos to everybody who was able to finish the first 2 games without any help or hints! i certainly wasn't! 😀

I loved one and two but I didn't like this. The mix of real photographed people and drawn characters was such a massive mistake and totally ruined the atmosphere of the game. Clearly this was due to budget and memory but they should have chosen one or the other. But I have very fond memories of Ishar

Comment peux-tu oser dire cela ?
