So more like an upgrade than a sequel. I vaguely recall playing this before or seeing it played. I recall the idea of raising a ransom to free King Richard. Of course this differs from the first game where the King is assassinated at the start(not actually named King Richard). In the first game you were literally defending the crown, whereas this time you're defending the king. I realize now that the idea of ransoming Richard from Leopold was in the 1952 Ivanhoe film and I think in the original book(and apparently based on fact). I like the British narrator. Interestingly the music, as well as the graphics, was done by Jim Sachs from the first game. The first game's music was by Jim Cuomo who was previously in bands like Fireballet and Mormos.

This is what DOTC should have looked like in the first place (minus speech/fancy sound/fancy animations aso and some "trimming" done ofcourse) I wouldn't have minded back then to pay extra if it had come on four disks instead of two :) The CDTV-version was pretty much "Defender of the Crown +" and not much "Defender of the Crown II". Nice never the less 🙂

Wilfred of Ivanhoe was unbeatable at the joust and his father Cedric would never have sullied himself with the Norman affectation of jousting on horseback. That being said I think the designers of this game should have chosen another goal. Once you take all the land and castles you could pretty much get twenty thousand pounds anywhere. Seems pointless to continue once you've taken all of England. Unless the French join in this game somewhere.

I like some of the graphical improvements, but the game doesn't seem all that rewarding in the end and it seems really boring after a while. It also takes too long to achieve your ultimate goal and the game hardly seems to even acknowledge your wife at all. Whereas in the original, you'd at least see her picture next to yours.
