Rotary speaker used by a member of Bricks In The Wall - The Sight and Sound of Pink Floyd. These are the same rotary cabinets used by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd
I just went on a Gilmore deep dive and had no clue how much went into him making that instantly recognizable Gilmore sound, from his unique playing style to how crazy far he bent the strings now adding this crazy amp. Now I fully know why, from cover bands to just regular people, why it is so damned hard to replicate his sound. If you either miss one of these aspects or their parameters are slightly off, so will be the sound. Thank you so much for helping me understand my favorite sound in all of music, David Gilmore's guitar.
Hi Thanks for the Video, I'm rebuilding one of these for one of my customers, but the unit was striped by someone and parts are missing. But I need a photo of the back where the power plug of the rotary motors plug in. Thanks Hendri
Amplitude 5 has this. Just wanted to hear the real version. You can hear the speakers rotation even with no guitar sound. So u want messa amp going to this I guess, for ABITHW solo?
no because then it would be a doppler effect and the tones will distort into different notes. because they all spin independently you get the effect while still keeping the right pitch.
@@LaurensHouweling No, the pitch variation is so small. The Yamaha R-50 has only one rotating speaker, the R-100 has two and this one three. I learnt it, while checking out different videos on this line of speakers.
It's all a matter of preference. I like them both. Leslies are horizontal (360 degree sound), yamaha is vertical and I imagine it would only sound good if you were facing the front.
Ive never seen any speaker built like that. It must be an analog speaker. Can anyone explain to me how analog speakers work differently than digital speakers?
All speakers are analog. Speakers convert electro-magnetic waves into sound waves. At that point in time, all sound regardless of the device is analog, already. There is no such thing as a 'digital speaker'. The device in the video is rotating analog speakers and thereby manipulating the sound wave by negative and positive dopplereffect. A similar effect can be created with a digital filter. The amplifier can be analog or digital. too Filters can be realized analog or digital.
These are not the same rotary cabinet used by David Gilmour....he uses Doppolas cabinet. These are just similar cabinets that works on the same principle as Leslie but the quality is decidedly different.
I guess Bjorn Riis from Gilmourish wasted his time for nothing writing an article for RA-200 that David Gilmour "never used", like you say. www.gilmourish.com/?page_id=416 And while you read this article, think about why are you such an uneducated, unintelligent caveman.
Sometimes human beings happen to be wrong ... but this does not mean that they are uneducated or unintelligent because I do not seem to have offended anyone ... except you Mr. Boss of the cavemen
When I saw them in 1987, I swore he used Dopolas. They were lit up around the cones and they spun. It tripped me out because the lights were in synch with the vibrato. I was on the 4th row and got a really good look at them. I know he used Yamahas before because he has said so, he also plugged in a uni-vibe with them which is why his tone on Dark Side is so unique and why this guy cannot replicate Any Colour You Like with that cab no matter how hard he tries, it's not gonna happen
😂 there are SO many pictures and reports and interviews showing gilmour using the RA200 with an alembic f2b preamp in front. He’s used the Leslie 147, then the maestro rover and Leslie for dark side, then the Yamaha ra200 and Leslie for wish you were here, then just the Yamahas for his solo records, animals, the wall, momentary lapse of reason, and the division bell. But sure, you can pretend he didn’t.
Computers try. Nothing achieves this perfect Doplar effect.. Awesome demo man appreciated. Honestly had no idea this is how these sounds were made.
Amazing to see the rotation of these speakers and hear David Gilmour sound ! Thanks for sharing that, really appreciated.

I absolutely love these speakers they sound magical! Thank you for posting
I like watching well balanced spinny things.
I love the tone this thing gets! Sounds wonderful!
Been watching this video for years now hoping to own my own some day
I'm not crying, you are crying. I love this
Definitely on the gear acquisition bucket list
I have a ra-100 for sale right now
@@michaelmayhem6251 I don’t suppose you can help me with my RA100 that sounds like it wants to explode could you ?
Yamaha is an amazing company. This cab sound similar to my Boss CE-1
I love the way you play
Man, that is so awesome!!
Wonder what it would sound like to have two at twice the speed of the other. It would form an octave probably.
Incredible. Would love to own that or something similar
This thing sounds amazing :) But PLEASE use your phone on the side when filming lol
Nada como la música de pinkfloyd en el trabajo. Es más : propongo pinkfloyd para todo todo 😎
Wow I've never seen one of these

Thats is awesome and sounds pretty cool!
Man thats Dave in a box right there!
There is no better modulated sound!
That is so cool and elegant- though a bit bulkier than an electric mistress and a tremolo. Bottom line-
I want one!!!
I have one for sale
Psychedelic 🍄 🍄
So frikken amazing
Holy Sliprings, Batman!!
Amazing!!!
This is a great video....thnx for sharing it , you sound fantastic 💞⚘✌
Wish I had a song list of some of the demos used in this
they’re all in the dark side of the moon album by pink floyd
He says what they are….HELLO
Whats the name again of this pink floyd song?
why are the 3 rotating speakers spinning independently? shouldent they be grouped together/synchronized
Different wavelengths, different speeds.
no because then it would be a doppler effect and the tones will distort into different notes. because they all spin independently you get the effect while still keeping the right pitch.
Y’all are both wrong the only reason they aren’t synced is to produce a more ensemble/chorus type sound than a Leslie type sound
@@audiodood ah oke. wouldn’t it sound false tho if it was only one speaker rotating?

Can someone make a video of it spinning and putting your hand in there?
Cant find one of these for sale anywhere!
Are you also using the whamy bar or is that the sound of the rotary speaker? Thank you.
Ofc hes using the whammy

beautiful
Today just know how to put on LED lights, that Yamaha is spectacular!
Just watched you tonight, and was wandering what that speaker was
Yo wtf I always wanted to know how they made those sounds
Leslie speakers effect!
A real Leslie sounds MUCH better

Good sound
Wow, I mean, Wow...
❤❤❤❤❤
Great sound, magical. Btw do you know what is the difference between Yamaha RA200 and RA100?
Could RA100 produce the same tone?
the 100 has 2 speakers, the 200 has 3, the 50 has 1
which mic do you use on stage for this little beast?

P.S. and to be exact I have not said that "he has NEVER used" .... I referred to those he used in recent years. Bye bye Mr. Flintstones
He uses this cabinet in the barn jams which I think is 2005-6. Either way bet you can't find a new example of him using the doppolas

How much one of those bad boys set cha back?!
I played with an RA-100, today in Utah, which is almost the same amp, and they guy wanted $800 It's Solid State, but incredibly cool sounding
I might be wanting to sell mine in Utah...
is there a diesel version?
I have the diesel version for sale

what's the song at 2:30? it's beautiful
It's pink Floyd breathe
Did I just learn how George Harrison got that tone?
Sort of, he used a Leslie, not a Yamaha
Can we be friends
Gilmour never used these, but sure, you pretend he did.
Kind of like you pretending to be cool with that comment but knowing you're just a miserable person
