Skies of Arcadia - Part 18 - Holding Out Hope
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 июн 2024
- Skies of Arcadia continues, as we explore the abandoned colony of Esparanza, but the Valuan Armada is in hot pursuit, and the locals aren't exactly keen to help...
Skies of Arcadia is tragically completely unavailable to purchase on any currently existing store, and was also never released on PC. If you want to play it yourself, your options are the GameCube and Dreamcast versions, which were the only releases. Sorry.

"Nobody dies in Skies of Arcadia"
So Drachma's still alive somewhere? He can come back and abandon us one more time!
Jon: Let's call it a part there
*Me watching a complete series 👍"
*Me watching them come out live 👿"
I've given up trying to guess at how big this game is. I keep thinking we must be fairly into it and then the game pulls an entire continent and mechanic out of nowhere. At this point I think there might be a whole second map to explore.
If you add in all the extras (Like Jon seems to be doing), you can easily add another 10 hours to the playthrough :D
Case in point, 18 episodes and we have finally fought all the admirals but Jon has mentioned that we will be seeing each of them at least a few times more each.
To be fair. Getting the Delphinus is pretty much the halfway point main story wise.
Reminds me of Tales of Symphonia, you feel like you're reaching a natural conclusion to the story, climbing the big tower in the centre of the map to save the world, and you've pretty much been everywhere on the map by then too so it feels like you've been everywhere important, only for the game to pull the rug out from under you with a full second map to explore and a vastly more complex story to uncover!
Skies of Arcadia really should have had some sequels, it's world and atmosphere is unforgettable.
Same with final fantasy 6.
The town is in shambles, so nobody will care if we steal their stuff! Jon's out here living that Raider life
Well he certainly had plenty of practice in his CK3 playthrough to put to use.
Bht this time without his Irish piggy bank.
I love how when the Moonstone Cannon gets ready to fire at 18:35, there are little lights (vents? radiators?) on the keel of the ship that flare up along with the cannon. This game has such attention to detail.
Sega was keen to throw a lot of money at their developers to go out and do research for accuracy and inspiration.
The Ixa'taka music was made using real South American instruments for that added authenticity, for example. I think some of the devs were sent to see some Aztec and Inca ruins so they could make the Ixa'taka architecture realistic.
It's no wonder Sega had major financial problems with the Dreamcast, but we can't say they didn't try to maximise quality.
Am I the only one who finds it extremely satisfying that Jon's party is leveling up with a one level gap running all the way down (Vyse at level 30, Aika at 29, Fina at 28, and Enrique at 27)?
It's an odd thing to be impressed by, but I love the fact that they climb ladders in sync with the actual position of the rungs...
It's the little things that all add up to a very satisfying game.
8:26 Anybody else remember the scene in Red Dwarf when they realize they're in a simulation and they're told that the ship being called "Esparanza" was a clue. Esparanza means Hope, and they're fight a Despair Squid. Hope defeats Despair. Obviously!
It's a blatant clue, innit!
No wonder you only scored 4%, what a bunch of twonks!
Gregorio is probably one of my favourite villains I've seen so far, I appreciate that he's not entirely evil and is willing to just let the prince go after being defeated. The entire cast of characters in Skies of Arcadia is brilliant though.
Antagonist may be the better term.
Gregorio seems to be the sort of man that could betray the Empire down the line if Vyse and Enrique weren't already trying to right the Empire's wrongs.
@@ShaimingLong You're completely right.
Note I’ve never played this game before, but my intuition is telling me that Jon should use Aika for Torpedos. If torpedos aren’t likely to hit, & Aika is the accuracy queen, I feel like that’d be an obvious choice.
But someone let me know if I’m misguided! Again, I have not played this game myself nor even seen anything on it before this series (that I am THOROUGHLY loving ❤)
31:00 "He's a 'heeler'. He can very literally bring her health back" - Excellent dog pun there, Jon!
Red dwarf taught me that Esperanza means Hope. Which defeats the Despair Squid 🤣
Its possible that in Japan "degenerate" may be much truer to its main definition, meaning worn down. I know Elden Ring has some lore discrepancies because of this coupled with some words being mistranslated.
The gunships fly up one by one, hurrah! Hurrah!
The goons get shot down one by one, hurrah! Hurrah!
I never get tired of Vyse's Sonic idle animation. I love this series dearly Jon, so glad you're doing it!
These are never long enough
Can't wait for you to do the dark rift. I remember being 11 playing for the first time the tremendous sense of relief coming through the other side. The lore does such a great job building it up!!!
if she's been searching for Vyse since he was 10, then she must've had a grudge against his dad and considered kidnapping
Every time I see Jon employ strategy and forethought I understand how badly I played this game as a teenager.
I'm loving this lp, I'm thinking the sylvite continennt might be brhind one of those dark rifts.
The best character in the game finally shows back up. I am quite interested in what could have happened 7 years ago and why it's lead them to attacking a seemingly innocent person for no well explained reason.
Yay!!!! More Skies of Arcadia!
There's still A LOT of game left, don't worry guys.
Best game continues! Jon, you're a star! Seriously!
Again, an amazing episode. This is delightful.
Piastol definitely played house or something with Vyse when they were on holiday one time and then when Vyse said he'd definitely see her again, he never did
Finally caught up with the series. Thanks Jon for the great content
22:00 actually i believe it's part shield and part ram. Do keep in mind that before the completion of our worlds HMS Dreadnought outfitting sail/steam ships and fully steam ironclads with a ram was still seen as a valid military decision. And seeing as the Delphinus as pretty much a mirror to Dreadnought having a flagship with a massive ram does make sense.
I've seen an interview from a Finnish submarine technician, and they rammed a Soviet submarine during the war...
The Dark Rift is a very interesting dungeon, I wish there was more like it in the game.
This was the one series I thought wouldn't have an episode of "Lets Talk All About the Things Jon got Wrong" 😢
Thank you.
Day 125 of requesting Age of Mythology - a full playthrough if possible.
I never expected to hear Jon got anything wrong in this game. Truly, Esperanza has turned out to be a land of crushed expectations.
Great series!
I fell behind on this series and have been binging to catch up... but now that I *am* caught up, I don't know what to do with myself!
I hope John plays Tales of Symphonia at some point. These two games have been my top two rpgs for a long time.
Delta Justice is a lot better than the alternative name; Shield Shield.
It's odd that Jon doesn't use greases vs. focus, focus is the spirit stat, so like 3 meanwhile grease is 10
I'm not sure if this is just a visual thing or a mechanical thing, but when Enrique does Justice Shield, it seems that the shield is put on every party member EXCEPT for himself. That's possibly why he still took so much damage from Piastol's Tempest Dance
No actually, the shield is activated on Enrique first, then the team.
@@supersasukemaniac ah that makes sense
No jon death magic is low odds when we use it not when they use it
This game is so surprisingly large
The devestation of Esparanza reminds me of Hyrule Castle in the adult timeline of Ocarina of Time.
Next video could you focus up to the max in a boss fight and use blue rogues Ultimate attack?
Ive been trying to hunt this game down to play on my old gamecube. The prices are insane. I might have to suffer and use an emulated version 😢
Yea
Hi Jon
patiently waiting for the next weekly series... I hope it's Stellaris
When is Drachma coming back? 😭
Wonder after this JRPG, if Jon maybe interested in playing a JRPG which I would argue has greater worldbuilding then fallout new vegas. You might like Trials in the sky.

Etern magic seems to be inaccurate for the player only.
Day 148/1230 of requesting Jon play a game nobody will remember, like Majesty: A Fantasy Kingdom Sim.
day 51 of requesting Jon play Okami HD
