- Skies of Arcadia continues, as we try to navigate through the mysterious Dark Rift, where nothing makes sense, and strange enemies are lurking in the shadows...
Skies of Arcadia is tragically completely unavailable to purchase on any currently existing store, and was also never released on PC. If you want to play it yourself, your options are the GameCube and Dreamcast versions, which were the only releases. Sorry.

I work 2 days a week as a dishwasher at a hotel. Every week I anxiously await John's release of Skies of Arcadia. During my down time at work, I watch these episodes. Only my boyfriend fills me with comparable joy. ❤
this comment hit me right in the feels
Yafutoma spent its centuries of isolation planning to make the most badass first impression they could on whoever came through the Dark Rift
Robinson Crusoe
Crusoe is the only survivor, washed up onto a desolate shore.
They weren't subtle with that reference, haha
Subtlety is for cowards. Make references with a sledgehammer.
Love that the first thing you do after finding the long shipwrecked man was to steal his remaining food and read his diary in front of him, before even talking to him!
Anyone else get the 2005-10 Doctor Who theme in their heads when the ship's going through the tunnels?
I like to think that the inherent nonsense of The Dark Rift made all the pirate ships massive. That or the cocking moon did it!
Missed opportunity not to say missing the blue Looper was a blooper
Moseying Jon would be perfect name for a traveling bluesman.
I love how massive these shipwrecks are, compared to our ship and crew
The tunnels of the dark rift look like a Windows 95 screensaver
This game really has it’s own Dark Bramble huh
Just without the very distinct vibes of the Dark Bramble. There's not quite as much butt-clenching terror in skies of arcadia.
It even hints at its own quantum moon lol
My friend was in Esperanza, going through the Dark Rift to Yafutoma when i learned about this game. Middle school me had to play this game. Almoat 25 years later, this game is still one of my favorites.
A shame the Dark Rift is such an overall small area, I always found it so fascinating. The pulsating plant like growths inside bring to mind certain species of slime mold.
Don't know if that was the developers intent, but to me the vagueness of rhe Dark Rift and the tbrown detail of a lost black moon souns like concepts for a possible sequel that never happened
when i was young i always thought the black moon stoon stone being there implicated that the black moon at some point crashed and the black rift was the remnants of that event
I love the idea that the Yafutomans can literally win any ship battle if they want but because of gameplay reasons you have to be able to win too.
"Zivilyn Bane Protocol" sent me
Jon it is quite easy how the torpedos work. Moonstone magic. It is how everything works.
Its rather fortunate the people from Yafutoma speak the same language as Vyse and crew, despite no contact because of the dark rift.
Bain is one heck of an explorer. He is definitely beating you to every crazy location in the game
From here onwards is new Skies for me. My GameCube gave up the ghost around this point. 😢
Ziby B really gets around
I'm loving this series and this game, it just goes from hit to hit.
The largest danger in the dark rift is your eyes separating, due to trying to look at multiple textures scrolling & spinning in different directions at the same time!
it really is nice to see older games still being loved on youtube these days. been loving this series
Let's keep hold of that black moon stone... just in case... you know... it can flip things the other way...
I bet the TvTropes page for this game was awesome
DUUUVAL! Wait, wrong channel. Let's go Fina and those pirates you pal around with!
29:35 ....
Jao: Surrender now-
Mao: -or prepare to fight!
Me: Meowth that's ri- oop wrong RPG franchise.... ^-^
I actually thought of the Paradox Brothers from Yu Gi Oh, but Team Rocket works as well.
Also my favourite dungeon in the game.
Maybe the void IS the black moon? I mean, weird stuff is the different moons' fault!
I know it's probably just using the same real ships as reference but the Yafutoma ships have massive Kuja energy showing just how much this and One Piece share.
Hold on, we’re sailing through a James Bond intro!
Ah yes the classic powerful twin trope. It always makes me think of those twins from the first season of Yu-Gi-Oh. I wonder if that's actually based on any folklore.
Seeing their ship though I was hoping for a unique fight with a ship that could maybe split apart so at one point it would look like it was going to ram head on until catching you in a pincer trap. Oh well, fighting those two guys is cool too.
The basis seems to be the logic puzzle "Knights and Knaves". An island where knights always tell the truth and knaves always lie
I continue to love this series ^_^ The Dark Rift is so cool, I love the style of the tunnels!
As the first ship dungeon in this game. It was pretty neat. If there's more they can't do the same thing.
Wow thats a nice wall they got there would be a shame if someone flys over it
I've fallen in love with a game I've never olayed
Pretty sure this section inspired a large part of Outer Wilds
Zivilyn Bane needs to explain how the hell he got in there
This is what going through the Omega Relay in Mass Effect should have been like to be honest. Would have been cooler than a simple cutscene.
YEEEEES I've been waiting for this!!
Thank you.
Gosh dang that dark rift is very cool indeed
the music is great and the visuals are astounding, very much a "what if half life's xen was good" sort of deal
i wonder if robinson is a reference to robinson crusoe? it's a novel about a shipwrecked man from the early 18th century
20:00 that’s what she said
INTO THE BREACH!
18:08 The torpedo knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the torpedo from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.
In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the torpedo is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the torpedo must also know where it was.
The torpedo guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the torpedo has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.
Jon (or editor), you are peaking your mic a lot. You can do a lot of stuff to mitigate that, but the easiest is just to back off a few inches. You are too close to your mic.
yeah i was looking to see if anyone else experienced the robotic audio in todays video
for me it got really bad during the Robinson conversation and immediately afterwards
I still think FFVII is better, but I'm really enjoying this series. Mainly because Jon is playing it, but I like it none the less.
Oh I can't imagine how cool it would be if 7 was on the next poll for democracy week
Day 128 of requesting Age of Mythology - a full playthrough if possible. Things are looking up, between a horrific tunnel realm to visit with Jon and actually feeling well enough for Dairy Night in town tonight. Personally, I'm more willing to go to the latter then visit the former in person. The latter has pie
The funny thing about that. You might actually get your wish way early in September because of Age of Mythology Retold.
First!
Pls play rome total war 2 again
Day 54 of requesting Jon play Okami HD
wait, this is a request thing that is happening? I sign onto this. Cheers
Day 152/1230 of requesting Jon play a game nobody will remember, like Majesty: A Fantasy Kingdom Sim.
