This is excellent advice. I've been using Logic since the early 90s and have many plug-ins and out board gear that are often compromised if I update an OS to early!

I haven't tried every feature but they all pass the logic plug-in start up and load in Logic Pro. I have more to test but these are the key ones for me that I have in my startup template and all load.
The only thing I noticed is that Xpandr and Addictive keys didn't openi in Komplete Kontrol but they did load on their own.

Before I say anything else, I would like to say that you, Chris, have been such an amazing resource and teacher to me in my learning Logic Pro X as well as my MacBook Pro.
Almost 3 years have elapsed since my first look into RUclips for help, and I’m happy to tell you that of the masses of people posting videos, your videos and generally your presentations have become my only source for times when I need help..
Thank you for your kindness and generosity and for making this 52 years old ex iron worker turned joyous (tentatively hopeful) music producer.
Cheers to you and, blessings to you always.
Now, I did the update in a brain dead moment and, the pit in my stomach came from my MacBook’s “system too slow” warning becoming the only function which appears to be unhindered by my updated MacBook…
I will check back in at a later time and Will hopefully have a brighter report to share.
    ap 🙏

I wanted to update on my post now that it’s been long enough to know if there’s been problems.
Fortunately I have noticed ZERO PROBLEMS and I’ve had no lessons to be learned from mindlessly updating my MacBook Pro!
I appreciate the heads up and I am going to TRY TO BE MINDFUL OF UPDATING IN THE FUTURE…(which is not one of my strong suits😂)
Thanks again for your efforts in providing information that continues to be a priceless resource to my personal journey in music.

I’m on latest update, but then, I’m also running a 2023 MacBook Pro as my Logic Pro station. So far all plugins work, including Vital, and all Arturia synths including Pigments 4. All AmpliTube plugins work as well. I haven’t checked any others, but then, they are barely used for most project anyway. I’m also not in the middle of any deadlines so there’s that as well.

You called it! I successfully upgraded 3 Macs (Studio, Mini M1, MBP 2019 Intel). I do basic amateur Logic Pro production on a personal "bucket list" album, primarily on the Studio with Akai MPKmini mkIII, Scarlet 2i2, and AT2020 XLR mic, and all went very well. Only 2 plug-ins (Air Velvet & Hybrid) that went south with Ventura last year continue to not validate. Your advice on putting multiple OS on same SSD is sound. I do that on my Intel MBP 2019 with Catalina, Win10 (bootcamp) and Sonoma on it now. I get the caution with pros and expensive plug-ins, so just saying my amateur stuff all worked well on Sonoma. Thanks for all you do!

Sometimes I Feel like I'm chasing my tail with every update. Again, thanks for your updates on everything Logic!

With a fairly new MacBook Pro with AppleMI chip, I hadn't noticed that it was set to auto updates. So it changed to Sonoma last weekend, and my 49-key MIDI controller went crazy, interfacing with Logic Pro X. The controller manufacturer confirmed that they're not ready for Sonoma. Even worse, switching back to Ventura was a nightmare and consumed 3 days of phone calls with Apple and several attempts to switch back. It wasn't until the 4th (of 7) Apple advisor, that I learned that procedures for working on the OS and Time Machine operations are different for the Apple vs the Intel chip machines; the first 3 advisors had given me Intel-based solutions. And even then I needed 3 more advisors to get Ventura back. A music producer friend with 20 years of experience is still working on OS Monterey - i.e. 2 generations back. Now I understand why! Thank goodness I had multiple copies of data back-up.

I can make a new audio track but it doesn't record and I can't even get a gain level check to register anymore. Such complete and total BS. I wouldn't have did the last lame update had I known it was going to destroy my ability to keep working on my existing song projects ffs 😡🤬😢

There's never huge updates to Logic to necessitate updating the OS. I've sometimes waited until a month or so before the next OS comes out to update to the outgoing OS...Lol. Stability over the new shiny object. Now my wife's Air?? I usually update it within a month or so of the new OS coming out.

corporate trick from the U.S. auto manufacturers in the 1970's and how spectacularly that worked in the 1980's
against the Japanese and European imports. Time to start telling the WankBots NO. NO MORE DAMN "UPDATE"

This vid is about a major update. But even intermediate small updates can ruin your system. An intermediate update of Monterey whiped my whole midi setup from my system. So, if updating is not necessary, and all your gear is working well, then don’t update. You cannot afford the troubles for a few gimmicks.

I wish the current logic was for availble for older intel macs.
And newermac could go back a couple versions. To ealier os versions.
Thats the one thing i hate about macs they update the system way too much and they dont allow new machines to go back a few is versions and vice versa.
Very soon no intel macjines will be able to run the latest os.
Fortunately they can run tne latest windiws and linux.
The other problem is on newer macs once the internal drive goes your machine is bricked.
And will not even boit from external drives.
Apple needs to fix this on m1 and m2 machines as you cannot replace the ssd or memory ever.

    Put simply
If you have the latest m2 Mac and you don’t use plug-ins especially from a third-party you’re going to be good to go otherwise leave it alone Just get on with the music
Or if you love bugs stress and pulling out your hair go for it
Software developers must truly hate these continual updates nightmarish

As a pro, I simply CANNOT ever just update. I ride about 4 to 12 months later than releases. I know guys who run serious studios who simply don't update until they are forced to by external events. It ALWAYS brings new bugs and things stop working. Most of the new toys or processes are for bedroom producers and DJs. They STILL haven't fixed the "octave and harmonic" glitching in flex-pitch detection that ruins it's operation.

Third party companies should file a bill to Apple and Microsoft for every time the update of the OSs ruins their software 😂
Imagine all the hours spent on development, and all the money spent and material waste created each year because of their egoism. It’s extreme.

Apple is more concern about drama not music production.

Did anyone say how to AVOID Apple updating it when you aren't watching? Here's how: Click the apple top left..click system settings...click "software update available" look up at top of that panel to "automatic updates" and then click the "info" button to shut off Apple installing the new OS when you aren't paying attention, sleeping, or away from your machine.

Apples's motto seems to be "If it ain't broke, you ain't kicked it hard enough yet".

Broken for me even after a few months and I would never update ever again. I'm now using Rosetta mode.
Apple super trash 🗑 if logic was on windows I would sell my mac same day man.

Hey Chris, you said it all so politely and politically correct. I would put it this way… If you update immediately, when a new operating system comes out… You’re an idiot. You might luck out and everything will be fine, but you’re still an idiot. I wait at least three or four months. Also, I just don’t understand why there needs to be a new operating system every year. Friend of mine upgraded too soon and several of his Adobe programs do not work correctly anymore. He had to roll back through Time Machine.

Just don’t do it. You’ll inevitably have plug-in problems.
