    The best "men's shed" anywhere..!
The scale and complexity of this restoration is mind- blowing. Watching the rebuild of the ammo- assist and autopilot, even though neither will ever be needed operationally, they are original historic engineering. It must be inspiring to anyone involved, to be hands-on restoring the Lancaster.
    Thank you.

Thanks Nev, always good to see. First RAF aircraft with a powered turret was the Boulton Paul Overstrand of 1934, which was basically a 1920's Sidestrand with a big power operated turret in the nose. First aircraft with an enclosed powered turret in the world.

Thanks for the update Neville. Great to see so much work going on in the hanger. Andy has done a cracking job on reassembling the ammunition assist unit. Chris has done a cracking job fitting the French nose section. All the guys doing a fabulous job as always. There certainly were some very clever people around back in the day that were able to design some incredible bits of engineering and to think not a computer in sight. Look forward to your next update Neville. Best wishes to you and all the guys at the centre. Take care.👍

One of the most astonishing aspects of this rebuild is the amount of documentation which is available even for complex stuff like ammo feeds. Jane was looking a bit legless.

Knighthood may be in order for all the fine work and dedication shown by these gents...LOL. I can't fathom how they built so many of these in such a short timeframe for the war effort as it appears to be such tremendously complicated, labor-intensive engineering. It worked, though. Thanks, Neville.

Good Day Neville, I hang on your every episode and live with anticipation for each week's next instalment. To visit East Kirby and actually see Just Jane has to be one of my last life-time bucket list items - all because of your wonderful videos.
This week (Video 237) you were speaking to a gentleman who was refurbishing the turret ammunition assist unit - he spoke about two books pertaining to the development of turrets - one was Boulton Paul and the other ... a bit too much background noise for me to catch. If you have the opportunity to chat to him again, or if you know - what were the titles of the two books that he spoke about?.
Again, thanks from John Mutti in Cape Town, South Africa,

Hi John, the two books 1-" I hold my aim" by Group Captain Keith ,second book "Guns of the Royal Air Force" by JF Wallis. Thanks for watching the videos. I know the audio is not great at times, a quick tip to check the audio, on the bottom right hand corner of the video click on CC this will give you a transcript of what is said, you can turn it off and on when required. Sorry for the delay in answer your comments lot on at home at the moment.

The old chestnut of a comparison between the time taken producing a complete Lancaster in a matter of days (60 hours the stated amount) during wartime and how long its taking to restore NX611 "Just Jane" has now been made several times. The big difference being that there would have been a whole factory production line geared up with tooling and jigs specifically made for reproducing the major components
to assemble a Lancaster on site with a dedicated workforce of men and women working day and night like a colony of soldier ants for the war effort. Every component required would have been either to hand BRAND NEW there and then, with items such as Dunlop Tyres and Serck aircraft radiators being sourced outside and delivered to the Avro factory in great numbers. The team at East Kirkby haven't got that luxury of an endless supply of new factory made airworthy Lancaster parts that they could just assemble and bolt on, saving literally years of work and around 100 of Neville's videos. In many cases they have to either refurbish a component, have it completely remade in house or manufactured by an outside company at extra cost. I have no doubt that the "Just Jane" team match the 100% effort made by Avro factory workers during war time and in some cases l would even go as far as to say they even exceed it in their desire to get NX611 flying again!

Geday Neville, how are you doing mate.
Now in no way am I having a shot at you blokes. But I cant help but wonder about the man (or woman) hours spent in building a Lancaster back in the forties compered to the restoration of Just Jane. How long did it take to turn out a new Lancaster back in the day? It's still mind boggling to me what could be produced in wartime.
It must have been 100+% effort.
