I built a 23' Rinker about 10 years ago with a 468CI big block with Dart Heads, etc.. made 720 HP on the dyno. The boat when I bought had a bad 454 in it, put in the 468, redid the shafts on the Bravo drive, proped it properly, and went 82MPH on a radar gun. Was a hell of a sleeper, as no one expects a Rinker to run that good!
This is the coolest go fast sleeper boat ever created. There are some very old Glastron employees somewhere, grinning ear to ear. Id take this over a Donzi or a Formula any day. Love it.
A Glastron would be one of the few boats I'd be willing to overpower like that. They were built tough. And had a truly engineered hull shape. Almost like a mini Fountain.
Yer an idiot, Glastron boats had the thinnest sides that spider webbed every time it bumped a dock .....they were not built for durability..... they were built LIGHT WEIGHT
@@1959whitesox Yeah, at those speeds, you're running totally on the step. There's practically no hull in the water. But it's still has a stability for what it's doing. Good hull.
I need to have a whiskey and a cigar with this man... style points to the moon, and you can tell that it actually operates properly. I'd trade a 42' twin screw cigarette for this boat.
I live near a lake in australia, the sound of a v8 boat is very rare now, not only that but high performance two strokes as well. Nearly all outboard 4 stroke now. That old rig sounds glorious.
@@ricksmith4736 Yep. At the bottom. Always has been. Funny. The only thing that’s 76 anymore, is the frame and body. Everything else is aftermarket. My two other vettes cover the coolness factor, though the 76 still wins local shows.
475 hp small block chevy V8, 19 ft boat. That ladies and gentlemen is American engineering at its finest. This, and the triple gun turret of the Iowa class Battleship.
On that last run all it would take is a slight breeze across the water and I'd bet your boat would go airborne and begin flipping end over end. A lot of the boat was actually out of the water.
Funny, I have been on an HCB Estrella 65 with six 600HP V12's and even with all 72 cylinders moving, you can't hear them over the wind noise. Although it does get up and move! 👍🤠
Ski pro once offered a 525 hp small block -volvo duo prop combo for its 21 foot barefoot boat. Took a dart block rhs heads and a 156 blower to get there. There were later versions that were N.A using a dart 416 small block stroker combo ,78mph at 5600 rpm with f5 props .un drivable in more than 1 an a a half foot chop .
I’ve been in a Sea Ray 21ft Pachanga that have a 502 installed in it. It’d do 85mph, at that speed there was nothing but the drive in the water and it would chine walk sideways on flat water. Super fun, but scary too.
The exhaust is electronically controlled to go from open/loud to closed/muffled. The exhaust was open in the video. When closed you hear only a slight rumble. Except for this video I do not run it open in the mornings!
Oh how I love a Glastron SX-190….1984 or 85 I assume in the vid. One of the best there was or has been in its size class. Looks great and loves HP. Pop had one with stock 350. Swapped out to aluminum headers, custom cupped prop, few other minor tweaks, and slight up trim at full throttle and 62/63 mph was no problem and stable. Excellent power for hole shots pulling skiers with great top end to put a few bugs in your teeth. Always fun surprising the Checkmates and small Donzi’s when they realized they couldn’t always win. How I miss that boat.
@@gearsports26 Thanks. Your engine and boat combo is super nice. Did or do you have issues with cooling at top speed? The stock Mercruiser outdrive was a bit problematic with not being able to pickup enough cooling water at top speed, especially with slight up trim to reduce hull drag. Are you running the stock outdrive and/or did you modify to another water pickup method?
Hi @@mic4725, I am running the stock outdrive and the water pressure is pretty low at high speeds. However, I have not seen any cooling issues. This may be partly because the LT1 engine has aluminum heads and reverse cooling so the the heads get the cold lake water first and make maximum use of the available water. Also, I have not run continuous full throttle for more than a few minutes. The boat stability gets a bit sketchy above 65, so I typically punch up to top speed and then slow back down. I am also running a oil cooler plumbed into the water line coming from the outdrive and it keeps the oil temp around 220F at full throttle. I don't see either the oil or water temp creeping up during a run, but then again I don't go miles and miles at top speed.
There was an 18' Glastron on Lake Champlain in the late 80s running similar power. Not sure what his #s were, but he was consistently beating BigBlock Checkmate's and Scarabs!! Sleeper boat !!!
Lol have two glastron's 18ft cvx with a 350 aluminum heads, pop up pistons & bunch of other stuff done to it and nos on it lol and a 23ft glastron carlson, bought both in 87,new, building motor for 23 ft right now.
Thank you! Skiing is its main purpose. It doesn't have the small wake of a tournament ski boat, but the 8 seats and built-in 15 gal ice chest make great family ski days. It can store a barefoot boom, wet-suits, 3 slalom skis, 2 tubes (deflated) and all the ropes, gloves, lotions you need out of sight so everyone has moving around space. The engine makes sure that towing multiple slalom or barefoot skiers is never a problem. Plus it teaches the grand kids what a V8 sounds like and why they should want one.
Cool! reminds me of an old video, a Canadian speed shootout? where some guy has a nitrous SBC running over 100 IIRC. " 124, video called power boat top speed.
Oh yeah!! When I was younger I was a water ski demon. I’ve done 118 mph on skis! I’ve also wiped out at 118 mph. Skipped, rolled, and then flipped for about 300 yards. I came back to consciousness as my friends were pulling me back into the boat. 😮 What a rush!!! I was on one ski,on a full whip and passed the boat just as a small wave caused my ski to tuck under. I was catapulted off the ski and was flying like superman for about a hundred yards before I came down and hit the water. Hard, hard crash. The water is like hitting pavement at that speed, and it hurts. 😮
Outdrive was the only thing in the water on that 75mph pass. 😂
