    The 8V71 were hard on fuel the silver 92 had the power but still hard on fuel and when they broke you better knew how to repair them I worked on these Detroit motors adjusting the fuel rack was a Art I mastered it I miss these old motors. Buy the way they were a 2 cycle engine they sounded like a race car like they were really winding up but the RPMs would only be around two grand. If something hung up in the fuel rack, they would run away with themselves or people were using. The emergency shut off with that does shut the air off to the engine through the blower. They did that too many times it would suck the seals out of the blower motor would fill up with oil and that it would run on that engine oil until it ran out of engine oil screaming to its limits. They said the motor run away but in the end it was the Operator that ran away when it happened. 😂😂

    The engine is not very old as far as big diesels are concerned, in Japan most vehicle owners write off their vehicles as the registration and inspections become yearly and the cost of registration goes up in proportion to the age of the vehicle. So that engine might have 200k kilometers on it if lucky, barely run in for a big Hino.

      Bunch of airports in thailand are where they are due to being bases used by usaf.
      Thais have some.. Interesting views on their military history though particularly on whoever just coming and using their land for a while. Dunno where they would've done fierce fighting? During the domestic communist uprising? The domestic uprising was luckily really limited and the casualties low compared to anything that went down in neighboring countries.
      You generally don't hear them talk much about it either, not even in esaan, of either the uprising or why the airports are where they are - most of what you have as remnant is just bob marley, chequevara and indian iconography. And country songs. Country roaaaads take me hooooomeeee tooo theee plaaaaceee i beelooooong every week.
      Bigger problem for them is that stuff in military isn't merit based so they end up buying scam products, corruption is high and stuff like that..

    • @holtzman72
      @holtzman72 11 месяцев назад +8

      Maneuverability - you can change the direction of thrust. It also eliminates the rudder. Safety - the wooden boat may catch fire from enclosed engine, the exhaust is as much behind as possible. Cooling. You don't need to build/maintain a sealed passage for the shaft into the hull. Space saving - the inside of the boat is free. Less chance the engine gets flooded (if there is a leak). And in extreme case, probably the whole engine could be thrown away, to make the boat lighter...

    日本の様にJCiの船体検査や船舶法の甘い国ならではの小型船文化。寧ろたくましい。

    Spent a month on the seas all around Thailand, and though beautiful, we didn’t catch a single fish. Hardly any fish while diving. The over fishing has devastated those waters. This doesn’t stop the 1000s of nets you have to constantly steer away from. It makes sailing tough. It’s just terrible that greed and impoverishment has destroyed th3 fisheries forever. There is no c9ming back from this
    Poor Somalians are seeing the same. I’m so sick of the Chinese, Vietnamese, Malay and Indonesian fishermen raping other waters after destroying their own. Time to put all the stored drones back to work, and repel this global threat

      Interesting perspective. Why isn't it regulated more through permitting? I'm no expert but thought I would ask.

      First because it doesn’t work like that out there. Even if there were laws, enforcement can be bypassed with corruption. I got stopped at a roadblock , blew what they said was over the alcohol limit, and then told to follow them to the cop station, driving more on my scooter. We then drank beers until my bribe was agreed upon. I drove home after, in front of them.
      It’s so unlike the west in most of Asia. Rain forest, fisheries, it terrible, but the people are awesome!

      That long stainless steel tube on top of the engine that he fills with water every stop...
      looks like a heat exchanger using pumped seawater to cool the freshwater coolant?
      Raw seawater corrodes engines very quickly and builds up salts in the engine....

    Why are they not using a turbo?? Since when do we use diesels with no turbo? Seems like such a waste especially a big ol V8 they could run a tiny little 4cyl with a turbo less fuel less maintenance cost smaller footprint
