I would like to see comparison between Dulens Apo Mini Prime and Cooke SP3. I own Red Komodo and want to buy great but compact cine vintage lens. Is price difference worth it? ( Dulens vs Cooke)
Wait! Did you change your mind by the end of the video? RUclips compression doesn’t allow us to really see a big difference. Do they actually have Cooke look or were you right in thinking there’s no way?
No they actually work great and are very very close to the look of the more expensive full frame panchros. Will be great to pair with them or on their own. Missing the i/data and focus mechanism but outside of that, great look for smaller builds. And easy to pair with anamorphic scopes!
Holy Vignetting Batman! That 32mm SP3 drops off HARD on the edges. Otherwise though, they all seem impressively close in rendering. You'd never notice cutting between them in the same scene.
Thank you for sharing. The FF, have you compared them with the S4’s? I’m looking at picking up the FF in 27 and 40. I have worked with the S4’s often. It looks like the flange depth is shorter on the FF compared to the S4’s as well. Thanks guys!
I think our biggest takeaway is that the differences are very very subtle. The panchros have about 6" closer focus per lens, and the flares vary a little bit. Fall off is ever so slightly more separated on the FF, but damn if they aren't real close!
Since Cooke is establishing manufacturing in Asia (China), do you think that they will offer similar lenses in the more modern style of the S4s? Also, considering that they most likely are partnering with an existing optics company, what are the odds that that company will, or does, offer similar, if not optically identical, lenses for one-fourth of the cost?
I mean the FF panchro classics are 14k each and are a t2.2 probably to protect the FF s8s at 30k a piece. At 4k each seems like a steal in their price lineup.
@@NorthwestCameraCo I do agree. They probably can't do that in order not to cannibalise their higher end line up. I tried both the SP3 and the NiSi athena, and side by side I can clearly see a difference when pixel peeping. The NiSi bokeh is not clean, it's not onion ring but has alot of stuff in it. And I just like the footage from the Cooke more, but I don't know why I liked it.
Much more coma in the SP3's. You can see this in the out of focus lights off center compared to the classics. That's the trade off you spoke about when comparing the physical aspects of the lenses themselves at the beginning. One important question is breathing. This is hard to tell from the vid.
I got the Leica R Summilux set, I would say these because: they barely breath, better color consistency between lenses, they don't shift forward when changing focus, they have minimal color aberration, they can also be used with e-mount.
Very close matching, it would be very difficult to tell them all apart if interchanged in a movie. Still overpriced next tot the competition, just too many quality lens options today.
Sweet modern vintage lens! Would've been nice if they had EF mount option to pair with kippertie revolva NDs.

I Love, love, LOVE them!!! ❤

Big time. Not at all. 90ish percent of the way. Not really that noticeable by any pro unless it was stated with text.

Awesome video yet again. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I think in terms of color, they definitely match. However, the FF have more separation.

What is separation?
@@JitDawgBruhDang The more expensive lenses seem to separate the talent from the background more.

Wish they give us better T-stop at this price point or a little cheaper on those lenses. But it's a Cooke.

if you have an FX3, and the budget is not so much a matter, would the FF Panchro classic work on an FX3?
They would for sure. Just need an E to PL adapter

These or a set of Leica R's?

I just wished there was also a 19mm or 21mm to make the set more useable for S35.

what do you recommend that look like the cooke sp3's that are less expensive, but quality?
@@bmefilms6879 Nisi Athena's would be what I target and the full set is just above $5K.
same question as the other guy
