  • For the winter break we drove to Osaka. I’m a bird watcher now, so I had to go by Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park Lake to see ducks that we don’t have in our area.
First I noticed the Eurasian Wigeon. I’ve seen this duck before, but I this time I learned what they sound like, and I could see them react to another duck getting in their space.
Next, I saw the Tufted Duck. It’s one of the birds in my book from Japan’s Wild Bird Society, so I was happy to see it with my own eyes. I learned that it can dive. That’s a mean face. Don’t get too close now. I’ll bite!
These ducks are new to me. They’re Northern Pintails, and they’re having a pick me party. Do you see the female with her head leaned to the side? Which one will she pick?
There were sea gulls. This one is the black-headed gull. When it’s ready to breed, the feathers on the face will become brown. Black-headed gulls also have a read beak with a black tip, and red legs.
