Well new parts are out now ABS makes parts for the system now,and if it goes out then they say it’s got a back up accumulator which allows 20 twice full pedal pumps to get u stopped in a emergency..
That looks much like the master cyl on my 63 galaxie (front power disk upgraded) that I've been trouble shooting. There is an electric pump mounted by the firewall that I think is dead. Brakes are super spongy and the front caliper doesn't move at all. It's all on the rear drums. You said pedal gets rock hard if pump fails, mine is a sponge. its like i have to prime mine to get any pressure.

Do you have any leaks? Check for leaks around the front brakes and the brake lines
Too bad. This could be a cheap fix soooo many people are looking for.
