    I’m definitely going to do this to my Firebird! The current brakes suck, especially with what I’m doing to it. A guy at work told me about this modification. This video confirms and does a great job of setting it up. I’m just glad my engine is still out so this should be pretty smooth.
    I can just leave the hoses lose until I drop it in🤙🏽

    You either have a tuning issue, or, more likely, you picked a cam with a very low lobe separation angle, which won’t produce much vacuum. People want the big cam sound, which is an LSA in the low numbers, usually 106 or less. Picking the right cam would have been easier.

    My 72’ gmc 2500 had a 1 1/4 inch master with a vacuum booster and a 1:2 ratio bracket (super stiff brake pedal with low brake pressure). The LS that’s going in it only gets 12” of vacuum at high idle. I’m now putting a Hydroboost unit with 1 1/8 and a 1:1 bracket (semi stiff brake pedal and very high pressure)

    Hey @PhotomikesGarage I assume thats the original style power steering pump and nothing special right?
    Love the car! My first car in 1979 was a 1973 Z28! Hoping some day to be able to buy one.

      Yep it's the stock power steering pump and works fine with the hydro boost.

    Great Video! Is the braking power that much of a difference with the hydroboost?

    Thank you for this video. Silly question, did you have to bleed the brake lines as well?

    Do you have drum on rear and disc on front. I noticed you dont have propositioning valve. I have disc front and drum rear, with valve and its not stopping as expected.

    Hello Mike I installed my hydro boost over the winter first mechanical test yesterday and the hydro boost system heated up the steering fluid like crazy and blew the seal in the steering box in 5 mins . The in line filter flow direction is it from the hydro boost towards the pump? that's the flow direction I put it in. wondering if I have it installed the wrong way ? any ideas would be appreciated.

      Hi , I've got the filter in the lower pressure return line from the Hydro boost to the pump. the older pumps can barely handle the addition of the hydroboost so I may upgrade to a heavier duty one soon.

    Hello have a question if you can help if you have the power steering pump with two return lines do i need to run a filter on both or is one ok such as the return line from the hydroboost to the power steering pump or from the power steering pump to the power steering box

    • @PhotomikesGarage
      @PhotomikesGarage  Год назад

      Hi, Yes you should run just one filter and I put it in the low pressure return line.
      Thanks

    Many pickups have hydroboosters on them.

    If I had power steering I would in a second. Not sure it’s better than a vacuum pump though. Engine blows up and you will be struggling to stop.

    • @PhotomikesGarage
      @PhotomikesGarage  Год назад +1

      It has a reservoir to allow a few stops if the engine stopped.

    It would have been much easier to use a vacuum cannister to increase vacuum capacity than that hydro boost
