To live is to die is an instrumental song by Metallica, devoted to Cliff Burton. In 1986 on September 27 a Metallicas young bass guitarist Cliff Burton full name Clifford Lee Burton. His death was a big tragedy for the whole band. A those times Metallica was on the verge of breakup, but musicians realized that a breakup was the last thing Cliff would want. So in a while the band found a new bass guitarist - Jason Newsted. To live is to die is a kind of a requiem to Cliff Burton. Music to the song was written by Cliffs drafts that he had written before death.
