I have to agree. They’re cute, and they come with a good amount of games, but they’re definitely flooding the market a bit. I ended up getting the International version, and then I got the blue Samurai Showdown edition because it was pretty. I don’t think I’ve spent more than a few minutes with any of the SS games, so it’s definitely something I need to explore more thoroughly. I definitely get the complaints about the analog sticks, but I think the lack of a power brick is more egregious since you could end up frying the unit if you get the wrong brick.
@@daingore You want one that's a 5 volt, 1 amp power brick. One thing you definitely don't want to do is plug it into something like a game console (Dreamcast Guy fried his PS Classic by plugging it into a Switch dock).
I wish Retro Flag would make a Neo Geo AES mini case for the raspberry pi 3b+ that way we could have a AES mini, since SNK don't seem like they want to.
I love Neo Geo. I got the original release up to the last 3 color Samurai Showdown. After they released that and I found out about the "silver and gold " variant! I just gave up! I'm a completist collector but SNK is just doing a cash grab!
Another quick note: these different versions happen to correspond to the classic Japanese "prmary colors" as well as the heroes they represent. The Kuroko was definitely my favorite. A bit sad SS6 with Kuroko wasn't included, but happy at least he's still in SS2 (game saved with him selected lol)
I picked up a kuroko edition today in the uk the same silver one as yours but have a gold kuroko card inside the silver edition. The metal slug placemat is stunning but it's metal slug and shortly should go with ( Dare i say it a metal slug edition ). As for the hideous controls pads ( Brook NEOGEO mini adapter dongle ) lets you use Ps4 arcade sticks and Hori fighting commander pad. I am a longtime neogeo fan but i wish wish wish they had made a mini aes with slickly arcade sticks much like sega am2 has just done theirs right ... then everyone would be happy snk would get sales and everyone would be happy.

The Christmas one has 48 as do the gold ones. Everything else has the standard 40. Right now, as of 09/04/22, this unit sells for upward of $600 on Amazon even though it's not the gold edition.
Whether it's shitty or not I still need to get a New Geo Mini. It's the only Mini Console I don't have yet (other than the Turbo Grafx-16 which doesn't come out until March 2020). Then I can say I've got a "complete set".

I can't believe they didn't put Pulsar on any of the Neo Geo Mini's. That and Blazing Star are great shoot-em-ups. Such a shame. Also, I think SNK is making terrible mistakes with this and the Arcade Stick Pro. I think if there was a way you could download Neo Geo games, like with the Nintendo Store, would be amazing and they would sell so many more units.
Good review. I had ordered from the same folks I'm sure, because I got the same version. Had no idea! Not worth paying another hundo for 8 more games tho! Kinda sad the card wasn't even the right one :-(
Just opened mine and got Haomaru too. Super weird as the promo photo had a Silver Kuroko card. Not that I'd do anything with a damn card but still...weird!!!
These things dont tempt me at all. I have most of the other classic/ mini consoles,and I want to collect them all, but this one I have zero desire to get.
Disappointed with the 40 games Kuroko variant. Also the 8 extra games from the true Kuroko one are not different from what we have seen before. We can find them in the japanese and international version.
Quick heads up. The Link you provided for the "NeoGeo mini Samurai Shodown-Black Edition" Does show the Correct "Kuroko" Collectors Card. And not the "Haohmaru" Card that's at 6:06 of your video. It's real obvious that the idiot that did the packing on the box of the one they sent you for review, put the wrong Collectors Card in the box... That's a Bomber!
I was about to return my Haohmaru version and get the Kuroko one for those 8 extra games, but the one I was looking at was the 40 game version. The 48 game version is over $300 dollars on eBay. Not worth it.
If they would just fix the button layout, joysitck, add a better hdmi output, and allow you to use any usb controller I'd get one. Not paying that much for something that has problems though. I really want one too, but my Rasperry Pi does the job better and cost less.
My Nakoruru edition has the international shell and Japanese games. The international shell is nicer than the Japanese shell, the joystick is better, and of course you get the cool looking blue LED ring around the joystick unlike the Japanese version. I'd rather have the international games list, too bad it's missing Fatal Fury 1 and Samurai Shodown 1.....
For me the hardware/controllers and output to tv is not up to par. They will keep releasing these as long as people buy them. I will not buy into the mini system.
These always look so much better in the marketing pics than in person. I mean they look good still, but they definitely do not look as nice as the pics. But hey that's foreign marketing typically for ya.

Is the controller shell translucent? It is very hard to see anything inside Also can you buy the controller separate or the other translucent colours? Thanks
It is translucent, but not as see through as promo pics make it out to be. And currently no the only colors available to order separately are the solid white and black.
One more company that played the greedy game. Too bad, I was interrested until I saw the games would be split into many systems. Missed opportunity for SNK, I'll stick to my ROMs... After all these years, I can't believe we still have to turn to piracy for the real deal. I'm ready to buy their games, they don't want my money in a fair way.

I would not be surprised if SNK released a NEO GEO CD mini before they consider releasing an AES mini.

@Martin Schmidt Those games aren't special man. You emulate these pretty well on a Raspberry pi, or really well on a PC.
