The steering wheel is locked, hence the need to replace the lock cylinder. How do you turn the steering wheel if the lock cylinder needs replacing?

You handle the airbag like someone that's had one deploy in your hands before. I know the feeling.

There is absolutely no reason to remove the steering wheel..other than that it’s a good video

no need to remove the steering wheel. Also, this vid is only for 95-98 and some 99-2000 3/4 and 1-ton trucks.

I didn’t think there was either.. I assume this is similar to my 98 s10. Took 10 mins to change and didn’t do half of this.. These videos are cool, but aren’t specific enough and do a lot of unnecessary steps at times.

Turn the switch to the on position before connecting the battery so if the airbag deploys you aint sitting in front of it

What if I can't turn it into the cranked position? Kinda the whole reason I am having to change it out?

On my 93 GMC truck after you pull the lock plate and the blinker housing out of the way, there's a 5/16 socket bolt that you will pull out which will enable you to pull the cylinder out.

My ignition switch works fine but there is some going on with it because it won’t let my truck go into “sleep” mode. I have to unhook the battery to keep it from going dead.

All I did was drill a hole in the top of the steering column bezel then stuck a pic in there and removed the ignition switch.

Would this cause the 40 amp fuse to blow? If this was bad? That is the problem i am having. It keeps blowing the 40 amp fuse when i try to start my 02 chevy silverado. When it did start i would start my truck and keep cranking! i replaced the starter and now it just keeps blowing fuses.

Probably a good video, if they didn't waste my time with giving the wrong year range. This interior is only 95-98 and some later year in heavier duty trucks. Was looking for a video with 88-94 interior

Very helpful! Only problem is, he don’t mention what you’re supposed to do to keep your truck running due to the parts store bought switch not having a chip in the key. My 1998 GMC K1500 Sierra would not stay running. I ended up having to put the old one back in so I could be able to drive it. Anybody got any info on what I’d need to do to get a new one to work?

i just did it, what you have to do is turn the truck on, then pull the theft system, while its running (ruclips.net/video/KRoyl2kikTc/видео.html ) then you can put in the new key

ps, your key doesnt have a chip, about 2 years to early for that

@@charliela1844 Bought my 99 suburban at an auction and came without key, had to put new cylinder in to put it in neutral for towing. It’ll start and shut off when key is let go. Any suggestions? Basically I was not able to remove the theft system while it was running since I had no original key.

Just had this problem with a suburban I bought at auction, managed to take a 1/4 inch drill bit and drill carefully in to ignition cylinder and it was fairly easy to remove after breaking the little lock pin bar. HOWEVER, without having the original key the theft system prevents me from turning it on.
