You should have done the wd40 first so the dish soap could take off the Grease

Nooo, my friend, the Oil its needed to extend the tools life. What i do that works perfectly is i just throw them all on a Stanley plastic toolbox and let them sit on vinegar for a week, then i rinse them with a hose until the water gets clear. Then i pour hot eater with soap to soak them a little bit more and then i dry them and spray them with Wd-40 and then you dry them all with a microfiber towel removing the excessive oily feeling but leaving them protected and lubricated. Try it my brothers, it’s definitely worth it. Ive restored 30 to +40 years old tools and most of them come off like brand new. ❤️‍🔥🛠

My take: First dust off all you can without any liquid. Brush for example. But not too hard since the dirt can act like sanding at some point. Then clean with industrial cleaner to get the grime. Final step is to wipe with a WD 40 cloth and then wipe with dry towels / one way paper towels untill the WD40 is mostly gone, only leaving a small protective film on metal parts which build a barrier against the next grime. In many cases, you have to do several turns of the good old "rinse and repeat". Also be carefull with the overuse of WD 40 on certain plastics. It can react with sunlight and react with certain components of plastics, making them white and brittle. Some motorcyclists ruined their fenders and body parts that way.

I've always used WD. Works good, and u cn actually spray it on the tool without damaging it.

I remember when I was an intern in a car production plant, we use to add wd40 on the request list for car parts in the warehouse for me and my mates to clean our hands because the sh**ty company couldn't offer us a cheap soap to clean ourselves.

Brake cleaner works great although it will also wipe any printings on the tool

The commercial cleaners have active bacteria and other ingredients that help break down all the nasty stuff & helps save the environment my friend
Also the same with car wash liquids that’s one of the reasons why you shouldn’t wash your car with dish soap

Ohh i wouldn't use wd-40 that oils can destroy certain plastics. I use dawn and some water. Cleans the best and cleans off the oil. You know actually clean it
