My uncle and aunt had a 4 speed Overdrive Triumph Stag. Same Colo(U)r, same top down, big pipe V8 basso-profundo bouncing off the Central Otago Schist rocks on our many drives. That's what a TVR 390SEi really is...a proper, righteous British version of the Targa Stag or the rare odd ball deTomaso Longchamps GTS Spyder. It made the Granada IFS and Cam gears Rack and pinion, and Salisbury IRS and Rover V8 all of a piece. Great work...thanks for taking us on the ride....
I've been so close to buying a wedge on a number of occasions. I tried to buy a 390SE from a trader in Keighley & after driving there from Birmingham the guy wouldn't answer his phone...then a 350i which wasn't quite right & then the one that got away, a 50k mile mint 1990 350i that had all of the later facelift bits from the factory plus every reciept and had never been out in the weather...it was in a slightly odd pale green which I couldn't quite get past. That was 5k at the time, oh how times have changed! I've ended up with a Vixen V8 (RV8) & 3000M with a twin turbo V8 (Chevy LS) so it's not all bad!
A Vixen is one of my favourite TVR models, so I think you came out sunnyside up! Like the M, too. I'd love a 2500M.
Really interesting. Had new TVR 350i in the 80s. List £18,000 - special offer £15,000!! Great with roof down for the croissants collection on Sundays up the Kings Road. But a definite migraine London to Oban and back!! I just love 3 litre cars - just shopped for the engine - tried to ignore the styling -not going to declare top speed hit. But the car does 140 if my memory is good. Congrats on the car and the video - had great fun at the end. : )
My dad had a Triumph TR8 which got a 4 litre Range Rover engine swap at some time. On the 25th. of december 1994 we crashed into a car crash on the motorway. I got away with bruises from the seatbelt but my dad got 4 stiches to his forehead. After spending aeons of time at the mechanic(very few Triumph specialists in Denmark) it got repainted - in the wrong colour. But it was a better colour so my dad was pleased.
The constant flow of problems after this reassemble was endless though. Spend more time at the mechanic than on the road it felt like. And this is why I love this video so much.

AND what an AWESOME car. Wedge TVRs always had a special place in my heart.
ps. I'm actually planning to acquire a Triumph TR7-V8/TR8 myself. but it's for a private movie-project so it's not a car I intend to keep.
As ever I’m surprised by how engaging your vids are, I wasn’t expecting to have my attention held for entire video. Also the “Nerd” caption was well timed as I made the same observation of it being a Portsmouth issued plate.
Wonderful car of memories. I am imagining him travelling with a perpetual smile on his face in a bubble of smiling onlookers. Joyous. That all went a bit Hubnut towards the end. 😂

I know I've said this before, but a Chim used to drive past our house just before 6pm every evening, and never failed to make me smile. Delicious sound, classic British sports car looks. A lovely thing and much missed. It's owner bought something newer and possibly in every objective way a better car, but it just wasn't the same.
I really thought it looked wicked, actually! My Chimaera is black, so it'll look grubby pretty quickly (and I'll probably leave it like that for a while!)

Love the quirkiness of TVR’s. One of my best TVR memories is standing off the side of Brands Hatch during a Tuscan race. Love them. Too bad not many made it into NL. It would be awesome if you could do a bit of a lineup with differences between the various TVR’s and your experiences.
I could try, but it's a tough ask to get lots of different TVRs together and film at the same time. I'll bring more of them to the channel though, hopefully.

Ah no, you would. The Wedge's throttle is a 'bit' awkward, but the later S' (with bigger doors) and Chimaeras etc are all fine. Peter Wheeler was 6'7"...he didn't build cars he didn't fit in!
I'm 6'2", 18st and fit into my 390SE with a little room to spare. Snug but comfortable.
Windscreen seems to have a rather large corner of disappointment, but just lovin' those door mirrors!
Big ones, though the camera was higher than my eye-line, so they don't appear as bad when you're actually driving.
How mad! Literally had a 390 next door in John Player colours yesterday then I come on here and spot this! It sounded incredible

I just do the cars I like. Sometimes its TVR, sometimes it's other stuff. Half of the channel is Citroen-based, though! It's just my own interests.

I agree with what you said about the V8 sounding just right. A throaty, measured warble that sounds perfect, especially in the midrange, IMHO
The V8S is the same. Not the same noise exactly, but just the 'right' amount of it.
Smashing. I used to drive my TVR S down those very roads in the Meon Valley (not the single tracks!) turning petrol into lovely TVR noise. Car's gone now regrettably, but I am restoring my really long term (nearly 40 years) very rare Vixen 1300 in the hope I can regain some of the fun.

I've had the pleasure of owning two 390SEs...though the later (1988) series 2 models, with more 'flares' and the nice OZ split rim wheels. Also owned a 280i FHC, and a 400SE. I think people need to remember just how OLD these cars are getting now, and if correctly maintained, are no less reliable than any other car...my experience anyway. Later cars also had thicker windscreen pillars. the TVR version of the Rover 3.5 'Vitesse' engine, as used in the 350i, was rated at 197bhp, incidentally...due to the improved/more efficient (tubular) manifolding and the different exhaust system.
Rated at 197bhp by TVR....so about 180bhp in the real world haha!
@@UPnDOWN Why do you and other people always have to take the piss ? That's the kneejerk attitude that KILLED TVR. My friend's TVR S3 actually gave MORE power than TVR claimed, when put on the rolling road (which I also use for upgrading and tuning purposes). The TVR 390SE in racing form was also a very competitive and successful car. Oh sorry...that's a positive.
@@grahamw56 What killed TVR was a shift in the market away from the kind of cars TVR were really good at building, combined with Peter Wheeler's determination to build his own engines, which ultimately led to horrendous warranty costs and a lack of confidence in the product from would-be-buyers. It's not "taking the piss", it's experience. I'll happily die on a hill defending TVRs to those who slate them on baseless ground, but as someone who has a rolling road (and has put many TVRs on it), IMO the power figures were often 'massaged' in the marketing. TVR weren't the only ones doing it, either. Many Fords struggle, and Alfa Romeos (a marque I like very much) often get nowhere near the book figures. At the end of the day, numbers are meaningless figures for pub-talk weapons, because they don't reflect the feeling of enjoyment a car can bring you on the open road. I respectfully suggest that this may not be the channel for you.

Very nice car, sounds great. I would've kept mine longer if it were a V8, the V6 just wasn't quite the same. FYI the column stalks (and headlight switch) are Rover SD1, and the dash switches are TR7. Thanks for taking us for a ride, hope the owner gets a lot of seat time in it too.

When you start recognising the roads.
The walking sticks set high like that. Are good for balance. I've used them in the Himalayas and the Sahara. Once your tried using them you really like them.
I worked pne summer in a local. Landrover dealers. The disco 3.door.had just been launched and one day a 2 door classic in white. It looked police fleet line spec but ran michelin xcl tyres it looked a real hard core off roader. They lifted the bonnet and their was a tvr 5ltr v8 we had to nip 20 miles to tve for a service kit. I was lucky to dive the rangie to get it filled up what a motor still grin thinking of it. Turned out it was part of Prince Philips close protection. He was in a carriage competition locally.
i owned a chimera in 2006 and more recently a 350i. wish i hadnt sold the 350i. luved it !
The width of that instrument binnacle suggests the innards from an R SD1..
and if you can bend the wind screen ... I can only guess about scuttle shake.

No, it's all TVR-made behind there. Just individual gauges (VDO in this case) and their own banks of warning lamps. That's probably just the style of the time. But yes, the body is wobbly (same as with the S-Series).

I get very anxious about cars leaving here and going back with customers, so I really give them a chance to break before they do!
It's called Nordic walking, burns more calories and works other muscles that you'd not normally use when walking. It's also beneficial for older people as gives additional stability.

No matter how hard I try I just can't raise any interest in a car that felt like it was built in someone's shed. My wife had a Lotus Elan (M100) once and I just found it irritating, the misted up dials, the leaks, the rough edges on interior plastics, blah blah blah. Nope, not for me.

The engine in the SEAC is a beast, but the Cerbera, Chim and Griffith are on another planet for driving dynamics.

You had it 3 years and didn't fix the interior light??? Just sayin.... Also you need to press the throttle harder and longer before you change up, and change down before that railway bridge to third or second!
Well, I fix what I've been asked to fix, and on account of the fact the interior will need stripping to remove the roof, it seems a bit silly to do that job twice just for a light that you can't even see!
As regards the driving, how I drive customer's cars versus how I'd drive my own car...two different situations.
It has a steel chassis so earth's should not be a problem
They're not, you just have to run tonnes of extra wiring to make them!

I am always amused how almost every test drive in England have so ugly and tiny roads. Like England have not better road. In my shity Croatia, you realy should search for roads where you must stop bypasing other cars! Sad!
Many roads in England are ugly and tiny, or certainly where I live. There are some nice ones, but they're too far from my workshop to drive to when filming.
