Literally just binged all the videos on your channel. I never realised how little it takes to actually start growing before all this. I thought the process was a lot more convoluted. I'm for sure going to try my first ever grow as soon as I can afford to buy some of the stuff I need to get going. Just recently lost my job, so as soon as I found a new job I know what my first paycheck is going on :D

it doesnt cost that much, if you know exactly what you are doing. these videos are simple, and show everything going right, but microbiology is extremely hard to do well. just like baking. baking a basic, low grade cake is not hard, you might get a solid cake, might burn it, chances are it will be edible or hard. making a good cake is very hard. same w this. most new growers get contamination over and over and quit. the learning curve in this is extremely steep do a LOT of research.

Another great instructional video. I loved the bedtime story. 😂
I just started working with agar this week, using your videos as my main instruction. I made my first batch of agar and was setting up six jelly jars to inoculate with a spore syringe. Then I remembered that I had taken a spore print from my first flush, so I added a seventh. I took a look at the jars yesterday. Nothing yet in the syringe jars, but the spore print jar had some pretty white mycelium starting!
Took another look this morning and, Oh No! There is a brown spot in the spore print jar.
But wait. PGT also taught me how to clean up a culture with transfers. I’ll be starting another batch of agar shortly. 😊
    Thanks, Sensei! 👍

    Whole Brown Rice,
    Coco coir
    Vermiculite.

    Dude Philly I need advice.
I followed your videos on the broke tek.
Brown rice in a still air box cultivated as showed in your video. Put 3 quarts fully cultivated in a 28 quart sterilite tub. Let it do more growing for 12 days before flipping the lid.
I have mushrooms 😀, but all growing around the edge not on top of the grow medium. I did do the trash bag lining you recommended also.
I'm guessing that I flipped the lid to soon and didn't give enough time to fully fill out the larger 28 quart tub. I wish I could send pics on here.
I also live in the mountains of AZ. very dry climate i had to spray daily to keep medium not bone dry.
    Thanks for any advice.

I have a question.. I got a really old school Revere pressure cooker, seems to work great as one too. However it won't fit my jars standing up. I plan to invest in a bigger one later, but is it okay to lay my jars sideways to sterilize?

Can one start a viable, healthy agar sample with a spot/scratch/scrape from a colonized grain jar instead of a print?

I'm no expert, I'm new to this, but wouldn't it be better to streak the plate with a sterilised swab or an inoculation loop? Wouldn't that speed up plate colonisation because the spores are spread out on the surface of the agar. Also, if you scrap the spores of the print like you have done and they land in the one spot and start growing, won't it be harder to isolated the healthy mycelium away from contamination if contamination happens to grow in close proximity to your mycelium? What do you think Philly?
