the spiral phos goes down is so deeply tragic. just knowing how she used to be in episode 1, the innocent happy gem, and then seeing her turn into this vengeful monster is such an interesting way to lead a story.
It’s possibly the perfect depiction of humanity from their beginning to end. From their naivety to their complexity’s. The option has always been here to simply live in peace and enjoy things as they are but humanity’s craving for more has always been its undoing. That’s why it was fitting that both Flesh and Bone were able to live happily but it’s with the addition of Soul that we fall. That conscience and sense of self is both a blessing and a curse. Something depicted throughout the entire story of each gem having its own purpose and the ones without purpose being the ones most troubled instead of simply just being happy with the life they’ve been given
the author went on a year and a half hiatus i believe- i think that happened around chapter 95? there's 102 now. the new chapters I highly recommend- it really hammers in the sadness surrounding this story. however, there is another hiatus for about another month, the next chapter wont be out for about ~24 days
Agreed that it’s sad that it never got a second season, but it was never officially canceled either. It was put on a hiatus until the studio had time according to them,
another person responded to you, but yeah it never got cancelled. The main reason HSnK got a anime was just to promote the manga.... which it did. It served its purpose and although I think the anime is necessary to understand the manga, it can be also understood why no company wanted to pick it up again and finish the story.
Phos should have never trusted no one.... no one cared, and even at the end when he frees EVERYONE EVEN LUNAR PPL, GEMS ETC they mocked him... now even tho he is god he is all alone... he is the only one that deserved peace since everyone also used him and changed him
it breaks my heart that theres no season two, i hope all the time that theyre eventually gonna continue the anime. the story of the manga is great and the art is wonderful but the anime adds so much, the score and animation were stunning.
I like the fact they're all fragment of humanity but they never be human we have no right to question the justification of there action as humane as they never be human they act like us they have vices and morality like us human but similarity doesn't always equal originality. The manga shows the extend of bastardization of means to achieve the needs of existence, glamorize the imperfection of such naivety and using religious and poetic base of storytelling to emphasize the struggle and success to achieve nothing and lead to meanless yet to peaceful end. It's tells the story of only the broken glass makes you bleed so don't let the fragile glass fool you. As beautiful nihility is, it's so tragedy of each journey.
I think it is also important to say that it was not only a plan from the king of the lunarians, but also had the cooperation of adamant all this time, so Phos had been cheated since the beginning
I firmly believe a second season will be announced in the next 1-3 years once the manga fully ends in late-April. Based on an interview dated to 2017 on animate Times's website, Studio Orange was directly approached for the adaptation over other studios because of their prior 3D work. Given that Orange has been busy as of late with Beaststars and Trigun: Stampede, nothing will happen until everything related to those franchises is halted or comes to a close.
So... goddamn.... depressing... I used to be really into rocks and geology, so picture my surprise when I found out about an anime about living rocks. But Jesus Christ... why did it have to be so tragic... In my mind there is an alternate universe where everything went okay for the gems... I need the delusion
yes, so he decided quit the job and leave the problems to Phos. And his job actually is pray for everyone so they can return to nothing not moon, include gems and slug people because they all part of human.
This video was exactly what I needed. Reading the manga is too jarring for me I confuse the gems very easily. Edit: Just went and read the ending after this video. It was beautiful. of course I don't feel as much emotions as if I would have read it myself but I'm grateful to have witnessed it nonetheless
SPOILER Probably my biggest disappointment with the series is how the admirabilis were introduce in only the second volume, and then have almost no further appearances (1 major scene) or real significance to the rest of the story, especially considering how incredible their designs were and they are so to represent a third (the flesh) of the whole that is humanity.
@@kolapsg7748 Actually they were prayed away with the rest of humanity. the Prince states that Kongo's flaw is that if he prayed he would end EVERYONE, not just lunarians. so he was not willing to, due to his love for the gems. as far as i know Phos has that same flaw, they just dont really care anymore
This manga left me a night without sleep, I was so curious about how it would end, expecting a good ending, but like one of the comments mentioned "you were expecting a good ending?".
Very glad for this summary! I had watched some of the anime back in university but I didn't finish it and I've checked the wiki several times over the years and I am always so surprised to see where Phos is at.
was hoping things will get explained in the anime. came to watch this directly after finishing the last episode. hope the anime will continuous once the manga finish
I loved this video so much! Perfectly explained and exactly what I needed. Probably the best summary video I've ever seen! Instant sub. I would love if you did more of these!
Maybe phos shouldnt bother changing anything at all, just party in the moon along with moon people. Instead of going in this tragic 100000 of sufferings.
My question is what happens when they meet robots(like Rozzum for example) or androids(like Astro or uran for example). My question is much more difficult to answer because of how they respond or even react to robots. The most likely answer is that they will see them as enemies and they will attack it. Or they will be confused by their definitions of any robot or computer term.
its really not that sad imo. especially if you compare it to other works that exist. like yeah sure its kinda sad and has some depressing themes, but i dont know why people act like its just the most heart-wrenching traumatizing thing. i love the story but i just dont find it to be particularly depressing. Oyasumi Punpun is to me a good example of something genuinely and incredibly depressing.
Yep. The Admirabilis feed on the grounded dust of Gems in order to strengthen their shells and they’re evolving to integrate with their shells rather than separate. So in order to preserve the Moon Gems, they have to kill the Admirabilis. Either by waiting for them to die out as they’re organic beings or by wiping them out themselves.
that doesnt answer why they initially abducted them, that answers what would happen if they wanted to restore low hardness gems from dust. the reason they were "abducted" is because of a plea made with a previous ruler of the admirabilis. at the height of their civilization they were plagued by a massive famine from overusing their resources, leading to the death of said civilization. eventually the lack of food and the ability to evolve and adapt caused regression and loss of intellect along with rampant cannibalism. the previously mentioned ruler pleaded with the lunarians to take them to the moon where food was abundant thanks to the lunarians technology. the whole "abduction" and "slave" thing was either an intentional or unintentional misinterpretation of events. the amdirabilis eventually evolved into what we see on the moon in the story@@calebgoodman3028

As a person who speaks japanese it is right to use they. The gems refer to themselves with masculine terms and even call each other brother. Although they look feminine the gems dont have a gender which the author of the manga clarified themselves. So yeah it has nothing to do with modern terminology
They are non-gendered beings. They don’t come to life looking like how we usually see them. They emerge unrefined, lacking many features of humanity. They don’t even start with eyes. An unspoken part of the story is how the gems’ appearance are molded by others. First by Sensei since the first gems wished to look closer to him, and then Aechmea with Phos and especially cairngorm (since Aechmea wanted a wife as a partner, so he dressed them feminine). Projection of gender onto the gems is a part of the larger theme of those around them trying to make them closer to humans.
I love this manga but it’s so tragic.
To quote the author “oh you’re expecting a happy ending?”
