It is a breath of fresh air to see someone acknowledge that the gems had genuine feelings for each other. Meanwhile the most of us are still jaded by the manga (pun unintentional). That is my takeaway from this video
It would make sense that the greatest fear for those who are immortal is losing those they loved. Be it them put through an endless sleep, smashed to pieces, brainwashed into becoming what you could only call something else, everything that leads to loneliness or being left with those you can't stand as you spiral into insanity.
Well I’d assume immortals fear the same thing I once did, not that their life will end, but that the quality of that life will be reduced to such an extent that it stops being worth experiencing or is so different in its nature that it becomes unrecognizable as living. As a mortal my suffering eventually ends no matter the malady but as an immortal the loss of a limb becomes not just debilitating but all the worse because it’s forever.
Anyone seeing this comment who HASNT watched or read Land of the Lustrous/Houseki no Kuni: *Do it*. It is one of the best series I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading and watching. The CG is beautiful, the panels are stunning, and the story is downright incredible

Wow, thank you for reminding about those emotions. The Houseki no kuni story was so usual for me(as I read manga and thought about it a lot) but your video showed me what for I love this series so much.
Loss is such a resonating theme throughout the series not only in S1 but in the manga as well even to where we are now. You should definitely read it! Even if you get depressed! I can’t tell you if it’s worth it or not, but it will be a very unique experience.

Instant sub. *Spoilers for the manga* The section on Dia and Bort hurt though, knowing how things turn out. So many “if only”s. And knowing how hard and how FAR Phos pushed and punished themselves made this video all the more touching
If you got this much insight out of the anime I highly, HIGHLY recommend reading the manga. It's what finally fully got me into the series after watching the anime twice, kind of liking it, but still not quite getting it.
So this just reminded me of one of the first anime I ever watched, Black Rock Shooter. Incredible, beautiful animation and not much else(from my perception) and this is the best kind of animation to me. It doesn't even need dialogue. Pure art.
What they should fear is Rutile, as I read the manga I know how scary he is when he gets angry. I kinda feel bad for Padparascha being stuck with him even though he is the second strongest after Bort.
@@gugusgugus6717 In all three of the stories, the main character struggles to find a purpose in life and has to go through trauma in their quest. However, in Steven Universe the titular main character has a loving family and supportive friends, whereas Shinji and Phos struggle in relating to others. This results in a more balanced tone in Steven Universe, while both Neon Genesis Evangelion and Land of the Lustrous have their main characters slowly descend into despair.
I do feel the narrative at the start was a bit confused and didn’t flow well but overall I really enjoyed this video. You have a really great voice for this kind of thing. Plus I always love to see more content around Land of the Lustrous. I’ve had a quick look through your content and a couple of your other videos have caught my interest so I’ll be sure to watch those soon.

*Spoilers Absolutely phenomenal. So much changes, but characters remain true and consistent with who they are. Phos in particular has such a character arc but I never doubted their sincerity. Phos becomes one of the most terrifying characters I have ever seen but I never stopped caring about them.
this feels like an recap, but its done so well that its in a league of its own (the recaps from most dedicated recapers cant even compare). it doesnt just cover the basic plot, its done with a well written script and conveys the emotions that the anime tries to show. 🥹
