  • A full group coaching session, showing the way that I work in my group programmes, The Coach's Journey and the Pioneering Women Programme. To find out more about those programmes and my work, visit www.robbieswalecoaching.com/ho...
Among many things, we worked on: confidence, the ripple effect of each of our work in the world, money and charging for our work, and how to include all the parts of us from the past as we move into the future.
I said that I would share:
    - The Belief Buster - an exercise around feedback and belief which I created for the coaches on The Coach's Journey 2018: www.robbieswalecoaching.com/s/...
    - Richard Strozzi-Heckler, in relation to the exercise I used with Joni towards the end of the call. I learned a version of this - which I adapted in the moment - from him on a Coaches Rising training.
You can read more about me and my work as a coach of individuals and groups - as well as some of my writing - at www.robbieswalecoaching.com
You can read more about the participants:
    - Justine Bonney - www.wholelifesuccess.com.au/
    - Robin Yu - www.intelligentasking.com
    - Joni Zwart - www.jonizwart.nl/
I'm very grateful to each of them for sharing themselves and their beautiful presence in this video, and if you felt a connection with them, please do reach out: they'd love to hear from you.

I took away some gems. I think hearing the reflections gave me things to reflect on. One takeaway for me is that a benefit of group coaching vs individual includes the chance to listen to what others are saying and then listening to what emerges for you. In this light, I appreciated the sharing by all including Robbie and the others. It was like listening to a group of friends having a deep conversation. Thanks.

Sorry to say that after 35 minutes of watching the video this is not the sort of example of coaching session example I was looking for. Too much protagonism by the coach, too much on-going "expert" feedback to the coachees (which to me is more counseling than coaching). Thank you in any case because in spite of that there is always something to learn from, since you have taken the time to create and share.

Thanks for the comments, César - and the gratitude! And absolutely - one of the reasons to share something like this is so that people can learn from it. I think one of the reasons it's GREAT to watch other people coaching is so you can see what they do, and decide 'would I do it like this?' and 'No' is as useful an answer as 'Yes'!
I thought I'd share a couple of answers on this and the other comments, in case you're interested, but overall, thanks for watching and caring enough to start the conversation.

Thank you. Not only did I learn and enjoy, I felt all that all 4 of you felt!& for me that’s great coaching. Loved your composure, being present, inviting each of them in a seamless way and your open responses to comments below. I liked how each one was an individual and yet there was collective wisdom that emerged. 👍🏼 Look forward to more such videos.

Hmm.. Interesting. A Group coaching session where the coach speaks for 17 minutes straight before really putting the light on the coachees (asking questions). Not a great start for me..

I have to say that as it was a couple of years ago that I recorded this and I haven't watched it back since, when I read this I was thinking "I did HOW MUCH talking???!!!" and wondering what they hell I had banged on about
😂😂😂. Of course, watching it back it's a mixture of contracting, introductions and centring. Intros are quite rare for me in sessions like this. I think in this one I was thinking that a part of my way of saying thankyou to each of them for the vulnerability and courage to join in with something like this was to tell them something about what I admire about each of them.
Contracting and centring are regular occurrences in my group calls and are part of the way I hold the process for the clients.

I understand you were probably still learning but this is great video showing what Coaching DOESN’T look like. Lack of basic principles is visible: coach talking most of the time ( coachee had to ask if they can speak!), giving advices (consulting) and your own expertise (it’s mentoring) - it just gives bad reputation to coaching. i only hope Since it was 2 years ago you educated yourself more and learnt and grew from it.

Thanks for watching, Alice, and I am absolutely always growing and learning. I'm sure there are things in this video I could have done better and ways I could have served Robin, Joni and Justine even more deeply. When working with other coaches and attempting to serve them as deeply as possible, there is always a balance of coaching, teaching and mentoring and I certainly don't always get that balance right.
The way I tend to look at my work to check if I am getting things more right than wrong is: did it feel at the end of a coaching session like I was in deep presence and in service? I remember that the answer to that at the end of this call was a resounding yes and that is far more important to me than whether I follow the 'rules' of coaching to the letter. But, that doesn't mean everyone will like it.
And what I would say is - the reason this video has a couple of thousand views is that there are not many videos of group coaching on RUclips. The world would DEFINITELY be served by there being more videos online - and I'd love to see a video of you working with a group and bringing your slant on group coaching!

@@robbieswale Only just started watching the video so have no comments to make there as a fellow coach but big props to you for the composed and wholesome responses to the roasting these commenters gave you. • @robbieswale

Ha ha ha, thanks@@AlexSmith-gh3pz. I have to say it's not easy, and my first reaction to comments like these is definitely that I switch into threat mode. But my feeling is that we have to bring the respect and listening we would bring to a coaching session everywhere, including RUclips comments. And, to be honest, César and Alice probably have good points about this session, and I'm definitely not perfect. But I appreciate the supportive comment - it made me smile and feel better. I hope you found some good learning in the video, even if - like it may have been for Alice - it was what NOT to do.

  • @V1970V

It's confusing to me that a coach (Joni), would ask -as a coachee- for wisdom from the coach (Robbie, and the other two people present) in a coaching session, when she should know that coaching is about getting wisdom out of yourself (the Coachee)..

    • @robbieswale
      @robbieswale  3 года назад +1

This is an interesting point - I could have challenged her on that, for exactly that reason - and wouldn't it have been interesting to see what came up?! And, I think there's always an interesting balance when I'm working with coaches, where there's the potential for me to be colleague, teacher, mentor and more, as well, of course, as coach. That, in some ways, speaks to the 'expert' feedback you mentioned in your other comment, too. It's a tough line to hold and I definitely don't always get it right.
