    Thank you so much for this. The Grundfos pump in my new house was noisy and hardly shifting any water. Your video gave me the confidence to dismantle it and I found it was completely clogged up with limescale and black sludge. I gave it a thorough cleaning and now have a quiet, fully working pump again. 👍

    I went to look for a replacement cartridge and it was more expensive that the whole pump. Any idea why that would be? Thanks, great video

    Hi Mr. Endter, first of all thanks for the nice video! I followed your video to clean up my grundfos pump however, when I put it all back together, there was a very tiny leak. There was no leak before I disassembled it. I want to redo or disassemble again, but what do I do to prevent leak? I’m sure four of the screws are tight. Not sure if I could use sealant, but don’t know which one is the best for hot water circ pump.

      @vendter  3 года назад

      If the pump is used for potable water, you need to use a food safe sealant or grease.

    It's too bad that the cartridge is as much as a new pump. $120 for entire UPS15-58 and $130 for the Cartridge.

    you suppose to not lubricate them. Lubrication is done by water, by design. Just clean the scaling if it was stuck or has hard time rotating..

    I've not been able to locate the replacement cartridge for my identical pump. Your chart at the end shows them to be available, but WHERE, please? Thanks.

      Sources change all the time. That is one of the problems with posting videos, what was available when the video was posted may no longer be valid . I can only suggest searching the web.

      @@vendter Thanks for the reply. I DID search, but found only way-too-expensive offerings, some as much as the entire pump w accessories. I've got a support ticket open w Grundfos, which may be useful in locating a replacement cartridge. Watts, btw, told me they don't even offer a cartridge for their version of this pump, even though those expensive 506176 cartridges I found seem likely to fit any UP 15-10 pump. Some eBay seller is asking $248! Whereas there is a new UP 15-10 pump listed for only $115. Comparison shopping pays, but these cartridges seem disproportionately expensive compared to the original pump (which includes a thermostatic valve, timer, & hoses).

      Just buy a replacement whole pump and take bits from it if you don’t want to replace the old pump. The costs of the spares being more than a new pump is ridiculous and due to people trying to profit from it.

    • @michaellundy6481
      @michaellundy6481 8 месяцев назад

      @@chrishard7616 exactly what I did. Found a brand new Grundfos which I verified to use the same cartridge as my other pump. $100.

    I found this hugely helpful, VIncent, so thank you. I ran into one problem: The rear housing of my UP15-18SF does not have a key to orient it re direction of water flow, making it possible to replace that housing with the arrow pointing in the wrong direction. Unless one has marked that before removing the housing, I could find no way to tell on replacement how to orient it . (As my wife will tell you, the fact that I couldn't find it does not mean it's not therre.) I luckily had another unit, so I used that as a reference. For others: With the Grundfos label facing you, the water-flow arrow points to the right.

    Where can I get a cartridge?

  • @TheEquineFencer
    @TheEquineFencer Год назад

    LOL, I wished I'd seen this before I tore my pump apart. There's not a real bearing in the front, just a bushing behind the impeller BTW from what mine looks like. I found with my pump, the shaft had moved to the rear in the housing from wear. This moved the impeller too far away from the housing for it to pump. I broke the shaft in mine taking it apart as I drove it out from the rear. In hind sight, if I'd known the way the cartridge came apart, I'd have added some shims to the rear of the shaft to keep it held out more. My guess is the rear bearing was going and allowed the shaft to move to the rear. Live and learn, good post though.

    Once again RUclips comes through. Just not in time tho. I had a UP15-42F that I had run for a few hours in 2016,, unbeknownst to me not completely purged. They don't like to be run dry! I pulled it and replaced it. I saved it, thinking it might be salvaged. Another pump shit the bed last weekend, and I discovered the run-dry UP15 pump squalled like hell, so I got a Taco and had a fight removing and replacing the flanges, as they are 90° off the Grundfos. Now everything is fine. So, as I want to have a spare on hand, I just happened to come across your video, and found the armature pops right out of the SS Cup with a knife! I found the bottom ceramic bearing just dry and unhappy, so I gave it a dab of silicone grease and now it spins like a million bucks. Back in the original box it goes, waiting for another pump failure, thanks a bunch Vinnie!

    Thanks for showing me how to take the pump apart. My system has 7 pumps in it and I've replace several of them. Now I can fix the old ones, but there is a problem. All the replacement cartridges I found cost more than replacing the whole pump!!!!! Do you know a supply place that sells cartridges for under $100...
