You are so talented, Lisa. Thank you for sharing. I've been in a depression since we've gone thru that March 21st, 2022 totnado and haven't even bothered to watch fish videos. I lost all my fish, sadly. But I decided to watch you again. This is the first video I have ACTUALLY WATCHED since the disaster. There IS hope. I am going to start over with a little tank. That way I can grab and go with it if I have to. I just love you and your softness. God bless. It's beautiful Lisa, awesome job. I have had no luck with moss, people say it's the simplest thing to grow, mine always dies, oh well, other plants do well in my tanks. Maybe the company doesn't include a heater, because a lot of nano fish/shrimp don't need a heater, or maybe it's because it would boost the price tag of their product too high. It's wonderful that you are an advocate for the Betas, they do deserve so much better. Take care, be well

Great timing, Lisa. This Aquatop Venti 2 gallon is a delicious little tank. I bought one a few months ago to grow out baby plants. Also added some tiny pieces of wood and salvinia. And some ramshorn snails, intending to eventually add shrimp. This itty-bitty kit light really grows plants, although I did switch out the kit filter for a tiny sponge filter. I love the smoked background, a very classy touch. It's my little kitchen gem tank and I love it! I'm also a fan of the Fritz Nature Box. Thanks for this great video!

I noticed your Texas flag in your profile picture-- I'm also a Texan, and just wanted to let you know that neocaridina shrimp seem to looove our hard, mineral-rich Texan water! I've set up a handful of different shrimp tanks, and other than dechlorinator, I don't have to modify our water at all. They THRIVE just being left alone!
I totally recommend trying shrimp- they really do bring so much more joy than you'd expect from a tiny invertebrate. They're such goofy little things!
Ps. Those "Fritz Nature Boxes" Lisa mentions are basically like having "cheat codes" for shrimp- I use 1 in every tank! :)

Nice idea using that mesh and glue. Making a moss wall is somewhat difficult. I made few moss walls in the past from two layers of either wall plaster mesh or a mosquito net with moss inbetween, but I never fastened it that well to the glass. Instead of glue I used fishline, tape (outside) and rocks (inside). I ended up with more hair algae than moss.
I even tried a slate rock, but even glass was better for the moss to grow on.

I'm very happy that you're promoting the right size of tank for betta fish and I completely agree with you. However, it breaks my heart when I hear this after the sad ordeal I had to witness half a year ago. As a total betta fish keeping novice, I was forced with my heart to make a quick decision on whether or not to save 5 very neglected betta fish in a pet store. Long story short these little guys would have died of I didn't give them another try. I even paid for them because I was too upset to argue. I housed them in individual Tupperware for over a month, gradually going up to 2.5 gallons tupperwares and I was constantly cleaning their mess I never let their hospital tanks get messy. Everyday I watched over them, hoping their fins would grow back because they shriveled up and burned away. And guess what? They all survived and I was a very happy mother. However, I can only keep smaller tanks in my one bedroom apartment. I have three 5 gallon tanks, a 4 and four 3s. All have shrimp air filters and all have heaters. All get a healthy diet even frozen live food. All have access to light and love. I even have an emegency plan for a power out. Please keep promoting the larger tanks. Small tanks really aren't good homes. But after what my boys had endure in the pet store, please try not to be too hard on those who try their absolute to save those who cannot save them selves. I'm doing my best.

    Cute little nano tank Lisa!
Turkey baster to clean betta tanks... Decades ago I switched how I clean my 10 & 20 gallon bare bottom breeding/grow out tanks. I use a rigid air tube, like those for UGF lift tubes (3/16"), with air line hose attached. I drain them into a plastic trash can and use a submersed pump to send the water to my sink. I found it a bit quicker and easier than a turkey baster. 😉

I've been using small tanks to raise baby mystery snails. Even my one gallon tank I can put 5 or 6 newly-hatched sized snails in there no problem all the way up to maybe 4 or 5 weeks old. I wouldn't let them get any much larger than that in a 1-gallon, but it's useful for getting them started. And rather surprisingly, the water parameters in that 1 gallon tank are among the most stable of all the tanks I run. Not sure how, but good for me.
