Here's why the 2021 Ford EcoSport is so hated... | Ford's BIG Mistake

  • Today I go over why so many people dislike the Ford EcoSport (IN THE US). It is the smallest and cheapest vehicle in their 2021 lineup, and you certainly notice it. Not everything is bad though, I also go over why someone might want a vehicle like this.
P.S. You can get a similarly spec'd Escape (which is a 10x better vehicle) for about $2k more...
    MSRP: $25,090
    Engine: 1.0 EcoBoost 3-Cylinder (123hp, 125tq)

The dude who posted this video is lost and confused.
      1. He wants performance on a small engine and a basic auto transmission? He went on to mention how better other car brands' models are but failed to realize these said other car models are on a totally different pricepoints and categories...
      2. He complains of interior and luggage space on a "sub-compact" crossover?
      3. He criticizes the hard seats and plastics inside the car on a budget friendly crossover?

I do forget sometimes that it has a swing gate trunk door, but it does work in Florida where I live where you rarely have to parallel park and the little SUV is so easy to park, but the size is perfect for me and I an SE 2020 trim in the 1.0 engine. No Blind Spot Information System, but blindspot mirrors from the factory. No Factory Navigation, so I use my phone since I have an IPhone 11. It was previously a rental in smoke metallic with only 2182 miles only when I got it on May 10, 2020. It was rarely used. The gas mileage could be better compared to other SUV's, but it gets me from point A to B and that's all that matters, but now that I reset the trip odometer and the MPG odometer, I'm getting 27 MPG on average since it said 22 before and I knew I had to drive better and it was wrong. Right on par with MPG sticker price MPG. Its 29 in the highway and 27 in the city or an average of 28 miles per gallon according to the window sticker. I put gas recently and I get around 300 miles with a single tank as of now.

The swing gate is perfect for my husband. He had brain surgery and it takes years for the skull to completely heal. He had bumped his head when leaning in to lift something from he hatchback we owned. As for the tire repair kit they give with the car, please let your mechanic know that you put that flat fixer spray junk in your tire. That stuff can be dangerous for the mechanic unless he/she is aware its in it.

I don’t think it’s ugly, I like it. and the swing door is great for a short person; and I don’t mind it either. It’s got enough power for me; and I’ve had mine to 70mph and it rides great. The tranny is slow to shift up (especially the first drive of the day: and that’s “taking it easy”); but they are an improvement over the lemon focus double clutch train wreck. I’m getting 33.7 mpg as long as I’m alone. Most of the new ones do have high mileage bc FORD OKed them for loaners (I think the employees drove them almost exclusively: another bad idea). But I do like mine and plan to keep it (as long as it’s under warranty). Also they don’t scrape on high driveways, potholes, and they run right over debris in the road without a scrape.

  • @FornaxusCrucible

I have the 2020 SES AWD, and have literally no complaints. I'm sure the 1l 3-banger is a disappointment, which is why I insisted on the 2l 4-banger. It gets up to speed just fine, so long as you're not looking to impress someone with a throaty roar and treadmarks. NOTE: I was driving a 2022 Challenger as a rental before I bought this EcoSport, and didn't feel like I was being cheated of anything. I get what you mean about the seats, but I guess my ass likes a bit of firm support, because I'm all good in that department. You noted that the trunk isn't level with the folded down seats - there are ledges set in the two corners behind the seats to insert the trunk flooring panel which makes them just a hair off of level (I'll be adding a 1/2" plywood underbase to mine to make it more rigid for that purpose). You also failed to talk about the built-in technology, which is better than the pricepoint suggests: Proximity lane sensors, backup camera with turning radius lines, SiriusXM (paid subscription needed after 90 day trial), strong cellular connectivity, including a few solid app streaming, on the SES, keyless entry and start, and an option for remote start, and even without that, with the free FordPass app, you get remote start, door locks, horn-light bursting, and GPS locator anyway.
No, it's not a big car for hauling all of your junk across the Alps in record time, and the MPG is a little disappointing, but there's one great thing about it being kind of unpopular: There are a LOT of used ones out there at decent prices with low miles, and they have a really good reliability rating. A new one will last you 10 years, easy.

Loved my 2020 2.0 SE AWD so much I bought a 2021 S 1.0 FWD for my wife. These are awesome little vehicles. Both engines have plenty of power. They have no problems on the tollways at 80mph and both can hit triple digits no problem. The acceleration is peppy enough for any situation other than racing a sports car. We've raced the 2.0 vs the 1.0 and they are really close with a hair advantage to the 2.0. In city driving the torque of the 1.0 feels more peppy off the line however at 55-60 the 2.0 runs a little smoother. The 1.0 gets about 1-2 mpg better if more city driving but on the highway at speed they are almost identical mpg. A great reason to buy these over other crossover suvs is the true 6 speed transmission versus the other companies belt driven CVT. This potentially can be more reliable and the 2.0 SE trim gets 2000 lb towing capacity. You won't find that with the other comparables. I have 6x12 aluminum trailer that I load up two adult ATV's on which maxes out the 2000 capacity and it tows pretty well. I have a F250 for anything larger but the ecosport is nice because its nimble with the trailer and you can get into tight parking at the trails where the truck cannot. As far as the small trunk you can actually stack a lot of stuff in it. A family with two kids is going to have no problems using this daily for shopping and general life. I've sat in the back and its surprisingly comfy at 6ft tall. You don't want a 6'4" person in front of you but for most people its going to be just fine. The S trim does loose out on the nice dash lcd and has no touchscreen but that is the $ you are cutting. The SE with sync3 works well and has the moonroof. The SE with AWD is amazing in snow. I have taken it in our pasture with 8-10 inches of snow and a set of blizzack tires and it got through it just as good as my F250 with snow tires. The swing gate is great in the winter when the shocks on lift gates get sketchy and you only need the lift gate to drop on your head once to realize the value of the swing gate. My only gripes are that the roof line in front is low. You find yourself ducking to see stop lights and with the sunvisor down it can block even more. Sunvisor almost needs to be cut in half. MPG average is 28-29 on both models. So not as great as my chevy spark was (39-40mpg) but its also a lot more car. No spare tire or place for one. In my 46 years on the planet I have only had one flat tire but I still get nervous on a long trip. Also no great place to put your phone. I leave it in front of the shifter but sometimes that gets in the way when you put it in park. Also the 1.0 oil filter location is retarded. The 2.0 is a breeze to change. Other than that we love both cars.

As far as size thats YOUR problem not Ford's, Don't go hating on a car because it's too small. Move on to other cars that are larger.
The only thing that threw us for a loop is where the swing gate location is; very odd placement for a door latch.
As far as legroom, it's a small car if your tall or a larger person this car might not be for you. Fit the car to the person.
Engine it's a less expensive car, dont expect a turbo charged or 6 cylinder car. It's built for the emissions and minimum mpg thats its suppose to achieve.
Don't mash the gas pedal to the floor to achieve power and the MPG is actually reasonable.
For those of us who dont care for all the bells and whistles this is fine. You're not going to get them in a 20,000-25,000 car anyways.
Fit and finish - what you expecting for the price?

I've driven my 2020 "4WD" "Echo-Sport" S for a year now. Starting with the interior I'd have to say it has a really good interior. Soft touch dash and good gauges and switch gear. Seat are comfortable as well. Id like for auto makers to ditch the center divider compartments and go with a column shifter or push buttons. I like to have more leg room for my drive leg. But the Ecosport is decent in that regard. My standard radio glitches alot and freezes on blank screen. I have to shift into reverse and then drive again to get it to reappear. Annoying. Ride comfort and driveability are very good. Acceleration is decent. On the outside the standard S rims are actually really good and the fit and finish was excellent for a small SUV. The Ecosport runs well and I get 27 mpg most of the time. Being able to buy it for under 20k was great seeing hat we didn't need a larger vehicle.

Id like to know, if you drive this like an economy car is aupposed to be driven how good of mileage can you really get.. in perfect conditions and with 93 fuel i can gwt over 40 in my 1.4l turbo encore, and its a little bigger than the ecosport.. i would think with a 1 liter you might be able to get 42-44?

    • @Shadows-RC
      @Shadows-RC 3 месяца назад

@keithbellair9508 I don't believe the 40mpg claim. Sorry. Most people lie about their MPG for some reason. The GM 1.4 turbo engine may be quicker and with better fuel economy, but that engine is junk. Those engines break down anywhere from 40,000 miles on up. Timing chains. Plus, the Encore/Chevy Traxx's AWD system isn't near as aggressive as the EcoSport's. The EcoSport supplies torque to all 4 wheels from a stop, with no exception. Encore/Traxx will only engage the rear differential when it detects slip, and it is slow to respond. EcoSports are better in snow.

Don't know why anybody would get the 3 cylinder version of the EcoSport. I have owned a 2018 Ford EcoSport for over a year now. I got an SES model with just over 12,000 miles on it for 22K. I'm loving this car, personally. The SES variant has AWD, a 2 liter 4 cylinder enginer at just over 160 horsepower, and a sporty, comfortable interior. It's not the most powerful vehicle in the world, but the AWD capability helps during colder weather, and it has such a small footprint and tight turning radius that I can park it just about anywhere. I think my favorite feature is the side opening trunk door, I just think that's really cool. Too bad they didn't bring the spare tire mount to the states, though.

I have the 2 liter and was quite happy to learn that it is an engine used by many vehicles. This means great aftermarket parts availability. These guys also don't stress the cost of operation. I do wish my Ecosport had the mileage that my Focus had. Unfortunately, car bosses decided that American car vendors only sell SUVs now. Still the mileage is better than many. I've had my 2019 Ecosport for 3 years now and it still runs like new. 0-60 in 10 seconds is fine with me.

I can get 31mpg on the hwy on a good day (not bad but not great) Also, I’m currently at 32,000 miles. I honestly think your negative opinion isn’t justified in this video. The 2.0Lt engine in S mode is a lot of fun and passing at speed is no problem. The rear boot has never been an issue and in some cases, better than a top hatch. I will say, the stereo sound quality kind of sucks lol. Lastly, working on this vehicle is a breeze, cost effective and of course you can find Ford parts everywhere. Having said all of this, I’m keeping mine for a few more years even though It’s paid for. For what it is, I give it a 7 out of 10. Not GREAT, definitely not BAD.

I m driving this car for more than 3 years. I m a tall person, 1.94 m, but there is enough space behind my seat for my 12 yo girl. Nothing sporty, but is what will expect from a 1 L engine with auto gear box. Gearbox is slow to respond sometimes seems not very decided what to do, gear up or gear down, but nothing major. And the seats are not that bad. You are exagerating. Of course you will not feel same as on a Volvo XC60 ( my 2nd car) but they are not bad. I drove this car in one go 350 km and there were no back pain or soar butt. And for a 15k E (with extras) new, is quite a good car. The really thing that i do not like is the fuel tank which is very small, only 45 ltr. I was in Ft Lauderdale recently and I have seen a lot of Eco's on the road. In my opinion you are talking from the american point of view, but as an european the car is decent. The Ford Puma is even worst for a tall driver like me, i drove one Puma for couple of hours and i did not like it. If you lower the back seats, put the boot floor on the upper position (top slot) you will have a real flat floor in the boot. And remove the boot tablet and you will have space for small fridge to carry.

The back doors are small enough it makes it awkward for my dog to get in, but then most car doors are for a saint🤣 I love the rear door. The way it opens makes it safe for the saint.
Im 5' tall, so of course roominess isn't a problem. But my 6'3" hubby doesn't mind driving it. He said it's no worse than any other compact car for a tall person!
Both have a sunroof and heated seats. The titanium has heated steering wheel😢. And leather seats. Which i dont like, but she does as she Ubers with hers, and it's easier to clean. Hers has an onboard navigation system. Mine, you have to have your charger cord plugged in. But...mine is fine for all the local driving. Hers is awesome for her cross-country trips.
Her titanium has the fancy lights around the inside that can change colors, beat to the music, whatever. It's NOT something I really would like.
Oh..and the rear compartment hauls my wheelchair AND the door makes it easier to load it.

I’ve gotten plenty of people taking pictures and asking for information about it because they like it. Also it only takes $30-$40 to fill up and gas lasts almost two weeks. Stop hating! It’s very comfortable and cute!!

I just bought this "suv" about 2 months ago and I'm trading it in ASAP. Yes, it's my fault I didn't do my due diligence with research blah, blah, blah. I didn't realize the gas mileage was THE WORSE EVER!!!!!!!!!!! It's actually a safety hazard while driving in the mean streets of Atlanta traffic lol let's not even talk about the fact that you have to get out of the vehicle to open the trunk, there's no button to open it from inside smh.

    Another thing.
My parents have the 3 cylinder.
I find the steering wheel smallish and that you must have both hands on the wheel, especially in turns!
There’s something odd and rigid about the steering that I’ve never felt in any other car.
Use both hands or it can get away from you.
    Did you sense that too?

I have a 21 ford ecosport s got it in august of 21 for 20k almost at 50k miles and crossing my fingers while knocking on wood😂the biggest problem I’ve had is replacing the engine thermostat. I run synthetic and change whenever the oil life hits around 25%. I’ve had it up pretty high a few mornings on the way to work and it holds steady with a smooth ride for being up that high in a little 3c turbo. I also get around 33+ mpg when driving 70-75 on highways

Engines die soon after 60k miles and are expensive to replace. Complete junk and a throw away car because it costs more than its worth to fix.

I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, O Lord, show this also to thy servant: whether after death, as soon as every one of us yields up his soul, we shall be kept in rest until those times come when thou wilt renew the creation, or whether we shall be tormented at once?" 76 He answered me and said, "I will show you that also, but do not be associated with those who have shown scorn, nor number yourself among those who are tormented. 77 For you have a treasure of works laid up with the Most High; but it will not be shown to you until the last times.
78 Now, concerning death, the teaching is: When the decisive decree has gone forth from the Most High that a man shall die, as the spirit leaves the body to return again to him who gave it, first of all it adores the glory of the Most High. 79 And if it is one of those who have shown scorn and have not kept the way of the Most High, and who have despised his law, and who have hated those who fear the Most High -- 80 such spirits shall not enter into habitations, but shall immediately wander about in torments, ever grieving and sad, in seven ways.
81 The first way, because they have scorned the law of the Most High. 82 The second way, because they cannot now make a good repentance that they may live. 83 The third way, they shall see the reward laid up for those who have trusted the covenants of the Most High. 84 The fourth way, they shall consider the torment laid up for themselves in the last days. 85 The fifth way, they shall see how the habitations of the others are guarded by angels in profound quiet. 86 The sixth way, they shall see how some of them will pass over into torments. 87 The seventh way, which is worse than all the ways that have been mentioned, because they shall utterly waste away in confusion and be consumed with shame, and shall wither with fear at seeing the glory of the Most High before whom they sinned while they were alive, and before whom they are to be judged in the last times.
88 "Now this is the order of those who have kept the ways of the Most High, when they shall be separated from their mortal body. 89 During the time that they lived in it, they laboriously served the Most High, and withstood danger every hour, that they might keep the law of the Lawgiver perfectly. 90 Therefore this is the teaching concerning them: 91 First of all, they shall see with great joy the glory of him who receives them, for they shall have rest in seven orders.
    92 The first order, because they have striven with great effort to overcome the evil thought which was formed with them, that it might not lead them astray from life into death. 93 The second order, because they see the perplexity in which the souls of the unrighteous wander, and the punishment that awaits them. 94 The third order, they see the witness which he who formed them bears concerning them, that while they were alive they kept the law which was given them in trust. 95 The fourth order, they understand the rest which they now enjoy, being gathered into their chambers and guarded by angels in profound quiet, and the glory which awaits them in the last days. 96 The fifth order, they rejoice that they have now escaped what is corruptible, and shall inherit what is to come;
and besides they see the straits and toil from which they have been delivered, and the spacious liberty which they are to receive and enjoy in immortality. 97 The sixth order, when it is shown to them how their face is to shine like the sun, and how they are to be made like the light of the stars, being incorruptible from then on. 98 The seventh order, which is greater than all that have been mentioned, because they shall rejoice with boldness, and shall be confident without confusion, and shall be glad without fear, for they hasten to behold the face of him whom they served in life and from whom they are to receive their reward when glorified.
99 This is the order of the souls of the righteous, as henceforth is announced; and the aforesaid are the ways of torment which those who would not give heed shall suffer hereafter." 100 I answered and said, "Will time therefore be given to the souls, after they have been separated from the bodies, to see what you have described to me?" 101 He said to me, "They shall have freedom for seven days, so that during these seven days they may see the things of which you have been told, and afterwards they shall be gathered in their habitations."
102 I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, show further to me, thy servant, whether on the day of judgment the righteous will be able to intercede for the unrighteous or to entreat the Most High for them, 103 fathers for sons or sons for parents, brothers for brothers, relatives for their kinsmen, or friends for those who are most dear." 104 He answered me and said, "Since you have found favor in my sight, I will show you this also. The day of judgment is decisive and displays to all the seal of truth. Just as now a father does not send his son, or a son his father, or a master his servant, or a friend his dearest friend, to be ill or sleep or eat or be healed in his stead, 105 so no one shall ever pray for another on that day, neither shall any one lay a burden on another; for then every one shall bear his own righteousness and unrighteousness." .....2 Esdras 7:75

I feel like the review is rather bias. It's a subcompact SUV, not an Expedition. Of course it's small, that was the selling point for me. I'm not going to be doing burnouts with it, but I love the tight U-turn range. It's great for city driving and parking and modest load of cargo. Very happy with my EcoSport, and I'm sad that Ford stopped making most of their cars and only makes trucks now except for the Mustang. I have to make an effort to keep my foot barely touching the gas pedal or I'll look down and see I'm doing 75mph without even realizing it. Granted it takes a few seconds to get up to passing speed, but I think that's what the Sport gear is supposed to be for. Haven't had to use it yet though.

To add insult to injury they are using the same frail DCT transmissions as the Fiesta and Focus. A 2003 Honda Civic EX is also faster than an Ecosport, especially with a manual transmission and the 1.7L NA 4 cylinder makes 127 HP and has that sweet VTEC sound. Also, the Civic looks a lot more modern.

Different countries, different perceptions for vehicles. This is a respected car here in India😂. Especially with that 1.5l diesel with 6MT that you can easily tune to almost 180hp and 222 lb ft torque with just an ECU remap. Pair that up with sort of good handling and driving dynamics, it is a fun car. It is a fast car here in India where driving above 120 km/h even on highways is like knocking on death's door (you never know when a motorcycle or a cow pops in).
This is a rare kind of American car that is not for americans. Also it seems like they love to whine and complain about anything that does not fit the norms or is out of the usual😂. All in good spirits.
