    Man i love this Game, but it really creep me out, the colossus, the map, the Game over screens, the emptyness... it's funny, because this it's the only Game that makes me feel scared (i never feel fear with horror games), but at the same time, it's... Beutiful.

    I would *guess* that the reason the intro music plays is that its a designated failsafe for when a sound event references an invalid sound, either because of a missing or an improper filename.

      Yes perhaps - but there are similar weird sound effects in the PSU demo, the sound of Mono's disembodied voice followed by the first colossus walking ... pretty creepy! See here: ruclips.net/video/1D025rFeRp0/видео.html (jump to 1 minute in the video).

      I'm no expert (so please remember I could be way off the mark here), but my guess would be that it is a data fetch error (so yes I'm agreeing with the original idea here), due to certain files being missing (because it's a demo). The game initiates the playing of some kind of sound file, it's not there, and thus it defaults to something else. Same as in the video Nomad linked; aren't there various ambience files that play in the forest, which would not be there in the demo right? So it fails to play the right ones, then defaults to something else (and perhaps the doves appear because, much like them being tied to the disappearance of the clouds in the code of the game, maybe the playing of Mono's voice queues them). As for why the intro music gets skewed upon entering the tunnel in the colossus fight - whenever you go inside in this game, there is an audio effect that plays over your environmental ambience, that makes the ambience sound more "indoors" rather than "outdoors". You can hear this all over the place in the game, and in Nomad's videos whenever he's gone to a location that hasn't loaded properly, and then the game has snapped Wander indoors, you can hear the ambience bend in the same way to the "indoors" effect.       There seems to be an audio effect that just gets laid over whatever is playing, to make it sound like you've gone indoors. When you glitch into an indoor environment, the effect seems harsher. Why this effect seems to have distorted the intro music is maybe a bit stranger. I would have two explanations (again, both might be totally wrong, but I'm trying): firstly, it could be that the music itself is not bending, it's just an audio effect playing over the top of it as the music cuts out in a very bizarre way, and a load of creepy ambience is played over the top; or, if the notes to the music itself are being skewed, it might be because the aforementioned audio effect that makes outdoor ambience turn into indoor ambience when you go inside somewhere has bent the note in the music the way it bends the sound of the ambience (again, check that link for an example). The proper parts of the OST that play in boss fights where you can go indoors might have been coded to play exempt from the "indoor ambience" audio skew, but the intro music would never have needed such exemption, given that it was never supposed to play here.

    What I love about this channel is that unlike a lot of other channels that are dedicated to unpacking their favorite games with lore videos and hidden detail videos and so forth, this channel also keeps laying on more levels of mystery and enchantment. You leave other people's channels feeling like a layer of mystery has been taken away, you leave this channel feeling like another has been laid on. Compound that with the style of these videos - forgoing any verbose exposition on what you are doing just harmonizes so well with the style of the game.

    After each video I think to myself ... that was the last one, so sad, but there is no chance after those years for moře content. But Nomad still came up with something, this is so amazing. Actually I finished the game, again for I dont know how many times, just yesterday on PS4 ... so this video is for me like a gift Instead of trophy, thanks Nomad

    This is easily one of my favorite channels on youtube, this game and everything connected with it (artbooks, demos etc.) are so interesting and charming, there's never a boring moment while watching these videos, thank you and every other SotC channel for the dedication, still keeping this game relevant, and looking for smaller things regular players wouldn't even begin to notice

      Thanks - I think sometimes my videos may seem boring to some followers, but as you mentioned - I look into all aspects of the game, media, art work, demos, posters etc. I have a ton of stuff I have collected over the years to post in a blog or a video... some rare, some not... maybe some day ; )

    Watching nomad Colossus videos feels like when you'd find and explore an abandoned industrial building or an old mining shack as a kid. Maybe that's too specific of an explanation but if you lived in a relatively boring countryside town then you'll know exactly what I mean. Very peaceful and innocent, no true complete understanding of what everything is or why it was left there but nonetheless having such a grand time turning over old relics that nobody intended to see the light of day

    The way the intro music gets distorted, stops, and is replaced by strange sounds at the instant you enter Phaedra's grave makes me think that there's something else going on with them. After all, they are called graves.......could it be too far-fetched to think that they originally planned to have ghosts haunting them?

      Are you talking about that moment at 12:15 in this video, where that creepy effect happens? If you are, then no I think there is a more mechanical explanation rooted in the coding for why that bizarre stuff is happening. There's nothing else in the coding of the game that suggests there was any kind of content like what you are descibing in the game, and even if there was, it would presumably not trigger in a demo. In fact, stuff NOT triggering properly in the demo seems to be what's causing the weird effects. I already explained all this in a previous reply to somebody else's comment, so apologies to anybody who has already read it. I also want to stress that I'm just piecing together my own ideas, I could be really, really wrong.
      My guess is that the reason the demos to this game have always had strange sound glitches, with sounds playing where they shouldn't, is due to data fetch errors. Wander hits the activation trigger of a particular sound file to play, but since this is a demo (so a lot of the files are not there - for instance you don't trigger any of the colossus fights, their music is not there, texture files for certain areas seem missing, etc etc), the coding defaults to playing something else. This is why the intro music just randomly plays when other sounds are supposed to trigger instead. It's also why in one of Nomad's previous videos, it sounds like Mono's voice randomly triggers when you travel around the forest. There are loads of ambient sounds for the forest, which won't be in the demo's files, since you are not meant to go there in the demo. So that MIGHT be why the intro music and other random sounds are playing in this video.
      As far as that really bizarre sound skewing you hear, it seems like it is an audio effect that the game uses to change the ambience from sounding like "outdoors" to "indoors". Whenever you go from outside to indoors, the game applies this audio effect to change the way things sound to make it sound like you've gone inside a building or some kind of structure (for the howling of the wind, Wander's footsteps, etc). Of course, when you are glitching the game hard, as Nomad often does, you can never predict how the game will react. Something I've noticed is when Nomad is at a location where Wander is supposed to be indoors, but it hasn't loaded yet, and then it suddenly does, the game's audio "snaps" to the "indoors" ambience very quickly, making it sound like all the ambient sound has just skewed sharply.       You can hear how the ambience suddenly snaps from "outdoor" to "indoor" right? It creates quite a sharp bend in the sound. So if we apply this to what's happening at that bizarre moment in this video, there could be two explanations: 1) it's not actually the intro music that's sharply bending in that creepy way, but rather the music plays then cuts out really bizarrely (which it had been doing constantly through this video) and it was actually the ambience skewing sharply, with that really creepy ambience also kicking in a moment later coincedentally; or 2) the intro music is indeed skewing, because it is being subject to the same audio effect that the game uses to skew outdoor ambience into indoor ambience (normal boss music might be coded to be exempt from the audio effect it lays over everything else so that it doesn't skew like this, but the intro music would not need to be given any such exemption, since it's not supposed to play here).
      So yeah I think I'm at least in the ball park with this stuff. I don't have the coding of the game playing out right in front of me to be able to confirm, but at least what I've said makes sense and has some examples to back it up. Hopefully I'm not completely wrong.

In fact, in this PAL video I had a lot more content to show of this effect. That is, I would run down the stairs, then run back up to hear that weird 'whirling sound' over and over... I'll see if I still have the recordings. Awesome theory btw - props to you!

    I echo many comments here, and add my own flavor: Your videos have this serene emptiness to them that always keeps me engaged, even for something as uninteresting as Cenobia glitching and not activating. It is a testament to your respect of the source material, I think, and the videos are not unlike the Forbidden Lands themselves.
    (When I am able to evade the midroll ads thrust upon unwilling uploaders, at any rate.)

      Yeah the ads have become a real pain - in fact I disable the 'skippable video ads' now as RUclips has added its own ads on top of these. Also, I never check the box for 'unskippable ads' as they are the worst!

    Am I the only gamer who finds stuff not rendering in properly to be really creepy? Especially when it comes to any geography/topography. Having environments not load in properly, like with those cliffs, just feels so disturbing to me. When I was young I used to rent PS2 games from my local Blockbusters, and I remember often the discs would be in such bad condition that it would cause load errors, leaving environments "half-in/half-out", and leaving huge portions of the play area just blank white with random nebulous shapes phasing in and out. It used to freak me out. It's like staring into some sort of space anomaly.

    That fixed path in 4's arena is really weird, infact that entire chasm is.
    Maybe you were meant to get the boss down there at some point? Even then, that doesn't explain the slow path down on aggro. Could that be some weird pathfinding/ai?

    Its weird to think regional Demos are different when they should really be from the same build or source with only the region lock code changed.

      Much like Pedro alluded to in his reply, there were so many different builds of this game. There are so, so many things that were cut slowly from this game due to how Fumito Ueda likes to design his games. There are so many cut colossi from so many cut areas, and they were doing this right up until the beta builds of the game. In fact, some were cut at such a last minute that some of their files can still be data mined in the game. So yeah I think there is a reasonable chance that different regions got different builds of the game.

    If I were to hazard a guess, the intro music is likely the first track on the list if not somewhere higher up. Maybe ID:1 or 2. It's likely being played at 'random' because the game can't find an associated ID for the areas outside the demo area, so it's defaulting to the closest data. I.e. the intro track.

    At least you have the option to stay stuck as opposed to the U.S. demo where the demo automatically ends if you pray at one of the shrines. Now that I think about it, it appears that the foundation for the PS4 remake was based on the code for the PAL PS2 version & not the U.S. or Japanese PS2 version.

    This has nothing to do with the video but once It happened to me a bug on the ps3 where Phalanx at the time of descending literally went to the ground and Agro climbed over him, I saw it and I wasn’t sure what I had seen, so I called my sister and I set my sights on Phalanx when he was flying and then Agro was falling from Phalanx and me and my sister were laughing so hard.

      Once on the ps2 version I lost Agro and after hours of playing I found her hanging in the air like she was dead... I was really scared.

    Is there a way to add a temp texture to F6 to check if the geometry is all the same as the other versions?

      It might be possible... but would require a lot of work - and in the end, we already know what it looks like, so there's no reason to do it. I might be able to load the low res lands at F6... just need to find the right addresses.

      No, it's still the same 9 map squares as in the other demos... just this time you can ride further along the bridge... in the OPM and PSU demos, Agro would fall right after you passed the cliff above the water of the 2nd boss area (Quadratus).

    black lizard increase your life/stamina (I don't really remember)
    try to go to E4 (PAL demo)

      It increases your grip strength by 1 point... you start with 100 grip points, so harvesting lizards doesn't do very much... best way to increase your grip is to fight the colossi as you get 8 grip points per colossus.

    It sounds like the game keeps thinking youre at the main menu or pre-main menu, and it knows youre in the game, but you haven't hit the "start" to enter the save file in the middle of actually already being in the game, and so it keeps playing the sfx of entering a save file. Kind of like how warping to colossus #2 and re-warping to the same colossus again while already there makes the busting out of the rock wall sfx replay over and over. It knows the colossus is outside of the wall, but is confused how the barrier technically wasn't broken first, and so keeps looping not sure what to do. Even warping back to the shrine, the rock wall collapsing sfx still disturbingly keep going!
