I completely agree... ok maybe not completely because that would be pretty hard because your supposed to use Agro for the battle and agro can't swim. But still if it were a different way to beat him it would be better.
Maybe you could ride agro on to the above mountains attack phalnax anc if you get to a certrain poinf oc phalnaxs healyh you can steer him at hydrus pool
I was actually thinking the tower in hydrus' pool could have been one part of an entire complex (sort of like avion's sunken temple), which you would have to climb and jump from to reach phalanx's sigils.
I think the reason Phalanx was at Hydrus' pool was because there is an unused colossus resembling a Phoenix that was supposed to b in the game but was cut. I think it was cut because it was too similar to fighting Phalanx, u had to shoot it with arrows to bring it down to a lake because it was engulfed in flames (hence the name Phoenix) to put out its flames and hurt it. So, the reason Phalanx is in Hydrus' pool is because Phalanx represents Phoenix and Hydrus' pool represents the lake where u fight Phoenix.
Had dreams of that shit when I was younger, right before I woke up I’d look down at the water just for it to leap out at me, always woke up heart racing and sweating
I feel bad for hydrus,he's like ''SOMEBODY HELP,WHY DOESNT IT RAIN AND FLOOD THIS PLACE'' I also feel bad for barba, his head is stuck in the cave roof.
It would be cool to fight Avion in the geyser plains. I imagine trying to get Avion to swoop down at you and it being hit by a geyser and knocked out of the sky.
actually avion was not there but the Phoenix witch should have been in the game, the area where you see the turtle walk out of was a small lake in the original beta so yeah
Shadow Of The Colossus is great, but it still could have been so much more. Seeing that something that's already great could be even better makes me wanna scream.
Yes, I realise that - at this stage the game wasn't complete and some hi res models hadn't been added in, but you can reach them legitimately. There's no reason to show this really, I just like exploring the game. I have found a way to get right up close to those low res models now.
For the colossi icons appearing in the wrong locations, it’s actually just the game getting confused and accidentally revealing the original order of the colossi. (Avion the ninth, barba the eleventh, etc,.)
I remember watching this when I was young and I’m still intrigued by how much history there is in this game. I always loved how mysterious this game was with its world and I still get chills thinking about this type of stuff.
I was a kid also watching him. But I find it strange why his videos for 8/9 years have always made shadow of the colossus content and so few people have watched his videos.
Wait a minute this seems EXTRA SUSPICIOUS WITH THESE PLACEMENTS. And somewhat familiar.... #1 Avion at the geyser plains makes sense because it’s not even avion that would be there. Do you remember the Phoenix beta colossus? That had the same “bird” logo as avion. AND it was meant to exist at basaran’s geyser fields. Therefore “Avion” being there technically makes sense #2 Do you remember the old NICO dvd? Well the colossus that the three boys met may have been pelagia in the early development stages of the game. When I saw it in that desert something clicked on my head and that must have been what those three boys were fighting in the dvd. Pelagia, not quadratus. #3 Hydrus at Phaedra’s area makes nearly no sense. But when you think about it hydrus sort of resembles a dragon (more than phalanx anyway), and although the devs say it’s an eel or a catfish (since electric eels aren’t actually eels, they’re catfish), fans even comment on its dragon like appearance, to the point where it’s fan name in Latin is ‘Draco Marinus’ or ‘Marine Dragon’. Maybe hydrus was originally meant to fly through the air, like phalanx, and fire electricity off of itself in a larger radius or even fire LIGHTNING BREATH. Also if the whiskers look too fish-like, a lot of Chinese dragons have large whiskers like that too in old illustrations and stuff. It also has exactly 4 limbs, which look a bit like webbed claws more than fins, and those things on its back can’t really be said to be fins. Therefore maybe hydrus was originally like a giant dragon colossus, all curled up on Phaedra’s platform, and when approached would anger and begin flying. Maybe the Phaedra arena was a lot larger and had more area, and they only removed the idea and put it in the lake because it resembled the fight with phalanx a bit too much, like the other unused dragon like colossus, the roc (yes I’m fully aware the roc is a legendary bird it just looks like a dragon in the art book). So I even managed to argue over the absurd hydrus placement #4 Dirge being at pelagia’s lair may have been a bit like a little jaws film with the colossi. Dirge would jump up and try to eat you, you would shoot it’s eye while it was in the water, and it would jump up in vain and hurt itself on one of the platforms, giving you time to kill it. It’s tail also looks a bit fish-like. #5 Gaius at barba’s little underground play park could have been an early attempt at the subterranean colossi idea, and although people may say about how you can’t smash its bangle, maybe it didn’t have one at this point, or maybe there was some other way, like causing him to hit all the blockades with his sword would smash the bangle on his arm. Plus it would have been sh*t scary with that thing under the ground. I really can’t be bothered writing anymore so if you have any ideas about the others please comment on this comment. Also nomad I love these videos and I want you to keep making them because looking into your favourite games in such detail is so good and wouldn’t be possible without these videos. AND plus with that mental stakestone guy on the wiki not many can rely on that. Thanks for the vid!
Kieran McAllister Celosia I think was supposed to be fought by riding agro and causing the colossus to run into the giant pillars of rocks to break it’s armor off sort of like Cenobia And l think Barba was supposed to be fought by jumping on the platform below where celosia falls off and wait for him to look for you and when he does you jump on his beard Phalanx seems like you had to swim to the broken pieces of the bridge and fire your arrows at him normally and his wings dived into the water and you jumped on when he flew by
Phaedra at Gaius' platform makes sense. Phaedra's feet are sharp and designed to stab into the ground. If you have him chase you over the stone circle, it could cause him to slip and fall.
You did not mention the statue above where the girl is resting. If you go back towards the pool & then look towards the girl, you can clearly see the statue. This is probably another colossi that was discarded. In the final version, you can just barely tell that something was there above where the girl rests. The form is not distinct enough to make it out. But in the demo, there is a face, arms, & legs.
Yeah, I can load the colossi corpses in any version of the game and fight the colossi with the corpses there xD. But I've just discovered some more stuff in the demos that I want to share - some pretty amazing things! So there will be one more video ; )
For a few of these colossi displacements I could actually see them working as normal battles. -Avion in the geyser plains: Avion would fly above, and you'd lure it above an active geyser, and then it would crash down, making it vulnerable. -Dirge in Pelgia's lake: There'd have to be some way to climb on top of the structures, but once on one of them Dirge would jump just above the structure, and while it's jumping, you'd grab onto it and slowly climb to its sigils -Celosia in Dirge's cave: Maybe it'd be more fitting for Cenobia, but you'd have to get Celosia to ram into one of the pillars, which would cause rocks to fall down and break its armor. Phalanx at Hydrus' lake: Similar to the original, shoot the air sacks so that it'll come down to jumping distance. But it wouldn't put its wings in the water, you'd have to jump off the tower onto Phalanx.
I think he may have the models (I mean look at his channel, he's literally dug through everything in this game) but it could just be some really good photography.
I just took screen captures of each colossus, then Photoshoped them into the background environments. I'm a graphic artist btw so it was easy for me after using Photoshop every day for 16 years.
There's nothing there in the demo. In the final version there is some land up there which I covered before in other videos like 'Beta Mountains Landscapes'
Nomad Colossus Hi, nomad i'm koko. may ask you to teach me how to hack SotC, how to control colossus, moon jump and remove grass to mountain, etc. can you help me please. thank you
is it possible that the area at 9:53-ish might have been part of the phoenix's lair? it seems small for an arena, but it looks very similar, and it seems like there's a water source nearby....
0:56 The reason there are two bird icons are because this was a time when Roc was still being considered for the game. Roc and Avion shared the same icon, so the bird icon to the west is probably Roc.
This demo is all jacked up , like I said before , I believe there was more to this game than meets the eye. Dear Nomad , I will always dedicate you and be subscribed . If I were you, I can see in this OPM Map that something is very strange about the east of the map.
Love the dedication you put into finding the little treasures of this classic game. As it fets harder to find new stuff, there is always ICO that perhaps would let you glean some more secrets. As for the issue with reprogramming the unused colossi, you might want to find some homebrewing site and start up a project. The people there have enough expertise to make their own games for the ps2. The only problem would be finding the willpower and drive among them to pull it off. Idk. Anything is pos
I think that the colossi and their arenas are always tied together. Even though the icons are in different places the arenas for said colossi would have been in that area too. Basically each arena is a map chunk and they. Can place them wherever and then build the map around them.
Whenever I forget just how exceptionally awesome this game is you sweep in and remind me with your epic videos. Thanks so much for keeping the love of SotC alive! By the way, how many demo discs came out that included SotC on them? I think I might have one or two.
The bird at the geyser area makes me think of the cut Phoenix fight. And Pelagia in the desert reminds me of that original 4 player Co-op video for project Nico. Because I’m that video, you do fight him in an expansive desert. So that’s probably a remnant of the original concept.
Maybe for the area placements, they were intended to be different to fit in the colossus that was originally listed into the areas? It could also be possible that some of the icons used for the colossus that were intended to be in the game but were cut out early?
I think that people need to keep supporting shadow of the Colossus I’ve never seen a game like it ever before it is a one of a kind and a masterpiece or a work of art and the soundtrack is the best soundtrack I’ve ever heard. Most games these days aren’t like this game and we need more of them. What the world needs is a change in games shadow of the colossus was different from other games when it was first released in 2005 for the ps2. We need a 2nd shadow of the colossus to be released in late 2021 for the ps5 but not just for the ps5 but also for Xbox just for a step up. More people need to know about the true beauty of shadow of the colossus. So for a shadow of the colossus sequel the game would need a new soundtrack and the land to not be that empty same map but more Places to explore. Since the creators of shadow of the colossus like to make people wait a sequel to shadow of the colossus probably won’t happen for a wile. But for now where all gonna have to wait.
YESSSSSSS and I wanna see more about the forgotten and scrapped colossi and yk how he wanted to do 48 bosses well I wonder how the hell he would have done that
I know of three demos that were released to the public. The earliest was the OPM demo, then the PSU and later the PAL demo. I'm still trying to see if there were any others, perhaps sent to a game magazine that is still out there somewhere.
Nice one and yes it's sad to run out of mysteries. It's amazing how long it was possible to explore and investigate this one single game. I can't think of another game as captivating like SOTC. Is possible to load any colossi corpses at the same time as living ones in other builds? Hopefully The Last Guardian will provide us with future mysteries. Whenever they finally release that. You know they've got to have several builds of that for as long as it's been in development. ;)
i guess the trees and shrines disappear since its only the demo and they don't want you finishing it so they got rid of the fruit and lizards to make it much harder
Avion at #9's place would be lowkey cool, and to me it seems sort of fitting in a way (wierdly enough lol) just a massive birb flying around in gayser plains after you
Perfect example is at 6:25. See as the back wall low res model phases out as the high res one phases in. Happens at the same time as the tree and shrine low res models phase out. But there's no high res model of the tree and shrine for it to replace with.
I wonder if the colossi positions were like that because they didn't give a shit about it or they actually wanted them to be originally in that position. But it would've been cool to see the colossi in their alternate locations functioning.
That spot where 12 is listed, if you go in that area, exiting the Forrest and entering that tunnel cave that turns... coming from the forrest, if you hang a left inside the tunnel there’s a fruit tree... I’m sure many people have seen it but I discovered it today when I was looking for fruit trees and it looks like a spot that would have been a cool little Colossi battle ground for a mid sized guy.. maybe a croc or something since it’s a watery area, but shallow
Guesses for how the fights would go in these locations (in order of shortest to longest to explain) Palegia in phalanx's lair: I have no idea. Basaran in avion's lair (I assume since those are the only colossi and areas to been swapped around to not be mentioned): same as palegia. Hydrus in phaedra's lair: I'm not even sure how it would move, much less have a chance to get hit. Barba in celosia's lair: I don't know, it looks too big for that lair (I mean, maybe if it was in the outdoor area) Phalanx in hydrus's lair: the same as it's in game fight, but maybe with some extra platforms in the water. Gaius in barba's lair: the same as barba except it would put it's weapon down(while still holding it) at the dead end, might not even need to break off the armor. Avion in basaran's lair: while it's flying, you let it get hit by a geyser, stunning it to the ground, repeat the process 2 more times. Dirge in palegia's lair: it rises up to one of the columns, then you need to jump on it's back, once your done with one of the sigils, it smashes that column, repeat the process two more times. Celosia in dirge's lair: first you would make crash into one of the 4 big rocks, which would break it's upper armor, then you and agro would run to the end of the wall, and as it collides with the wall (it would jump then lunge towards you) it would break off all it's back armor. Phaedra in gaius's lair: first you would have it jam it's left leg into the center, then you would proceed to litterally stab it in the back, or the butt, then jam it's right leg into the center, then you would proceed to stab it the head, (this next part might sound a bit ridiculous but it's the best I got for an ending), it's head mask would break off, revealing a mouth, it would try to eat you but instead eat some of the stone, then you would proceed to fire an arrow at a minor sigil on it's neck, it would fall down, then you finally stab it in the neck.
Those are good theories, but in a newet video it was mentioned that it is much more likely that the displaced icons are a result of an older order in which you fight them, so when they changed the order to the final one, the icons got displaced, and since it was a demo version, nobody cared.
All I can say about the colossus icons is that maybe they messed up the icon placement codes and they happened to appear where they were. I think that's all there is to it, but it's still interesting.
Fighting Dirge at pelagia's arena would have felt like a Jaw's movie.
Sacred Swordsman Now I wan't to try it!
+Sacred Swordsman oh god now I will have nightmares
+filsekfil
Implying the long colossi aren't already the stuff of nightmares, regardless of their behavior.
A Jaw Movie except much much worse....
MergedPotato phanalx is my favorite
Seeing Phalanx literally anywhere else is so fuckin' weird because he's so huge.
All of this is the stuff of dreams for me. Not just cause this is one of my favorite games, but because things hidden away in games and things removed for the final version are an obsession of mine going back to early childhood. Out of bounds is my bread and butter. This channel, in turn, is an overdose of awe for me.
Drifter Carbon I can say the same for myself
I see you must be a man of leaning 😂
Phalanx flying above Hydrus' pool would have made for an interesting battle.
I completely agree... ok maybe not completely because that would be pretty hard because your supposed to use Agro for the battle and agro can't swim. But still if it were a different way to beat him it would be better.

Dirge actually looks just fine in that lake
Hydrus is cleary not tho = )))
I feel bad for hydrus,he's like ''SOMEBODY HELP,WHY DOESNT IT RAIN AND FLOOD THIS PLACE'' I also feel bad for barba, his head is stuck in the cave roof.
Red Comanche Well at least Barba would live for ever because his Glyph would be protected XD
It would be cool to fight Avion in the geyser plains. I imagine trying to get Avion to swoop down at you and it being hit by a geyser and knocked out of the sky.
Given how hard it was to get a slow moving turtle over them, it would probably be a nightmare.
Alpha Bulblax Oh, wow. I hadn't thought about that.

Alpha Bulblax but fighting the turtle is a nightmare for me already so I probably would fucking hate this game if it was like that
Shadow Of The Colossus is great, but it still could have been so much more.

Subscribed by the way. I like your videos. :) Nostalgic for me. Okay, this is the end of my wall of text I promise.
Some of those changed colossi locations are creepy as hell lol I can’t even imagine
good work man!
You know they've got to have several builds of that for as long as it's been in development. ;)
Nomad has how you make OPM available Demo I always wanted to play but the blackBird blog link is not working so you can make it available?
There is no 17th colossus so I never searched for it. Although you could say when Dormin takes over Wander at the end that it is the 17th colossus.
There some old footage I did years ago, I think it's in my 'Shrine of Worship' compilation video. You could check my video links blog to find it.
Avion at the Geyser Plains actually looks really awesome.
KEEP MAKING VIDS YOU ROCK
i guess the trees and shrines disappear since its only the demo and they don't want you finishing it so they got rid of the fruit and lizards to make it much harder
a new video ty nomad!
Oh yeah this is amazing!
i think the reason they had Avion's Symbol Twice was Because of the Unused Pheonix Colossus that was originally be in Bassaran's Area
Avion at #9's place would be lowkey cool, and to me it seems sort of fitting in a way (wierdly enough lol)
just a massive birb flying around in gayser plains after you
Perfect example is at 6:25. See as the back wall low res model phases out as the high res one phases in. Happens at the same time as the tree and shrine low res models phase out. But there's no high res model of the tree and shrine for it to replace with.
I hope it comes out this christmas then, you may have to wait... I bought my PS3 for the same reason (that was 4 years ago)
New video :D really like these :D
Ainda bem que não estamos sozinhos.
Yay a new video! ;D
Woahh, fighting Avion in the Geyser Plains and Phalanx at Hyrdrus' Lake would be so cool!
Great video. May I ask...what is the square next to the grip meter labeled 'arms' for example at 13:48?
Thank you ...to keep Shadow Colossus Alive :)
Yes, check out my 'Kuromori compilation' video
Pelagia in the desert looks cool as hell
Nomad Colossus youre so great
thanks my and BR.
People talking about Hydrus benched but Dirge is FUCKING DROWNING and I really lost it there HAHAHAH
Phaedra at Gaius arena looks cool
And Dirge in Pelagia's arena is cool too!
Yes it is
Thanks - appreciate it ; )
I think that when hydrus was in Phaedra’s valley it had water but it was changed to the underwater ruins that phalanx was in
you are the god of all things colossi
Guesses for how the fights would go in these locations (in order of shortest to longest to explain)
Palegia in phalanx's lair: I have no idea.
Basaran in avion's lair (I assume since those are the only colossi and areas to been swapped around to not be mentioned): same as palegia.
Hydrus in phaedra's lair: I'm not even sure how it would move, much less have a chance to get hit.
Barba in celosia's lair: I don't know, it looks too big for that lair (I mean, maybe if it was in the outdoor area)
Phalanx in hydrus's lair: the same as it's in game fight, but maybe with some extra platforms in the water.
Those are good theories, but in a newet video it was mentioned that it is much more likely that the displaced icons are a result of an older order in which you fight them, so when they changed the order to the final one, the icons got displaced, and since it was a demo version, nobody cared.
what if phalanx was still in the stage where it didn't have airbags so team Ico started experimenting on other ways they could implement the fight?
It does make sense now I think about it. :o
All I can say about the colossus icons is that maybe they messed up the icon placement codes and they happened to appear where they were. I think that's all there is to it, but it's still interesting.
Maybe in this version the photo of Griffin was taken, because the graphics are similar, thats my theory
We missed you Nomad. :)
