    Very nice analogy. Solid video!
Only thing I'd add is that people shouldn't take it too seriously. The cover is about the book, but the book is not about the cover. Not everything you wear needs some kind of meaning behind it. If you just like something or makes you feel cozy, wear it!

  • @tabletbooks4967

Excellent video as always, though I think one crucial element missing in the book cover analogy is the symbiosis that exists between the wearer and the clothes, where an excellent fit is one that flows from the wearer to their clothes. We cannot speak of a book's text ever being uncomfortable or not feeling a particular cover, and yet this dischord happens a lot with those who follow trends or pattern themselves off of celebrities. A Travis Scott fit often looks great on Travis Scott, but almost never on anyone else. The key points in clothing are intent and sincerity - a decade later, I still think Gosling's fit is better than Carrell's because one shows those qualities, and the other shows aesthetic indifference.
Finally, while a book cover or cereal box or painting will demonstrate a single consistent design language with the sense of a single guiding voice (the painter or head of a design team), a person can wear clothes whose clashing elements create a powerful image unintended by the creator of those distinct elements. Traditional school outfit paired with a stressed leather jacket creates an entirely different image with this element - rebellious, brazen, sexual. Similarly, a vintage novelty shirt with high end Japanese Americana jeans immediately becomes "ironic", the high quality of the pants signaling that the wearer has a sophisticated, jaundiced take on their top.

due to my RUclips viewing habits I tend to fall off any given channel for a couple months then binge watch every video I missed, and by far I have to say this is one of your best videos I’ve ever seen. the pacing, editing, and subsequent story beats kept me engaged the entire time even though this video’s topic didn’t seem like something I’d be too interested in when I first clicked on it. bravo Antwon you get better and better every couple months I decide to tune back in hahaha

I deliberately dress to give off a certain vibe. If I'm seeing contractors and working on site, or just hanging out I wear more street wear, hoodies and sweatpants etc, and more colorful stuff. If I'm going to a business meeting or going to my kids school events I wear more neutral colors and traditional siluets. But number one rule is making sure my clothes are spotless and clean, and they fit properly.

I can see why people make the jordan petersen 'mistake' (barely want to call it that bc its subjective). I think the train of thought was, "ooh this is nice on camera. Oh, i gotta wear a blazer to keep myself looking professional though. This color works with this sorta, wow I look great!" and he should have instead recognized the constraints he must work in to put together an outfit. His constraint is he must wear a blazer, therefore every decision in making the outfit should be hinging on what blazer he chooses, and from there everything else will fall into place

Clothing has far more power than you might think. Not only a facade to the inner you, but could also be a response to your surroundings, thoughts, culture, work, society and more. Referring to the book 'What Artists Wear' by Charlie Porter, clothing is a creative and intellectual process and a lifelong research to gain its true meaning and power. Then to me, this helps to avoid becoming a victim of trends and consumerism in the industry we all notoriously familiar with.

Linking purple to Roman elite has always struck me as a bit off. 1970s tv Joker had a purple suit that just made him look goofy. Barney was also a goofy purple. Sometimes purple clothes is more funky, or even more mysterious than black.
Do you actually wear anything with purple?

Blues and reds I think are great with purple. I wonder if the shade of purple and context matters here, since I think brighter purples are more associated with bold creativity/experimentation thanks to it's associations with questionable or poisonous concoctions much like green. Other than purple and green, I know purple and yellow is another polarizing combo since they are actually on opposite ends on the color wheel which again are a pretty funky combo. Really rich purples though I think maintain their regalness and mystery, especially when paired with gold, bronze and copper. I wonder if blue's popularity also has anything to do with people not wearing purple tbh though I wouldn't know.
I actually pretty regularly wear purple. Lilac and burgundy has been a favorite pairing for me for a while now. I also find burnt orange or a deep teal with a dark purple velvet fun.
Idk typed too long and now it's just a ramble lol

9:00 - Eh, I prefer the Dragon a hell a lot more than the green pants.
At least the Dragon will have my staring at your leg nonstop while my imagination creates a whole universe.
This is why I can't do fashion and why I go dressed as a bum, because I don't really care that much. My mind's always elsewhere.
Which, I guess, is partially why I decided to follow your channel. Even though I can't afford ANY clothes :D
I mean color meaning and symbolism I've studied for decades, but fashion? Nah.
Btw, Purple represents Mysticism and Spirituality just as much as it's association with Royalty.
So wearing purple will make people think you have a rich imagination more than that you'd be a wealthy person. After all most wealthy people wear suits or fancy pancy clothes.
    And sadly, as someone who always wears black. We're not seen as mysterious. At most we're seen as depressive loners and other negative connotations ;;
10:00 - _sees the guy wearing armor_ 😍
Back when I was 13-15, so 20-22 years ago give or take, there was a guy at school that I found fascinating.
The guy walked around with a big black outside red inside Dracula style-cape. Everyone of my so-called friends thought he was a weirdo but I thought " _Damn, that's so cool!_ "
Wish stuff like that would make a comeback.

Trends are funny how often they contradict them self every couple of years. I still prefer fitting pants over the oversized trend, and in my opinion it’s totally valid to ignore certain trends if you dislike them. Most people just chase trends without really a reason and that’s probably the reason why so many older photos look so cringy

I suppose the most extreme example of this are (and stay with me here) furries. They literally use fursuits to intentionally depict and explain a character, using colors, textures, accessories, outfits, going so far as species. I've seen suave foxes in suits, horses and cows in overalls, sparkle dogs with literally as many colors as will fit on their bodies- but all of it tells a story. The individual success of each look can vary wildly
