Man, this is a GREAT video. I really like his vibe. Super generous, genuinely helpful, and clearly knows what he’s talking about. I’m coming back to Final Cut after a few years break. I am looking to refresh - and I can attest that all of these tips are GOOD advice.
Kevin...this was great! I' m new to FCP and found it very helpful. Thanks for producing it. On a separate note...FWIW...you have THE perfect radio voice. Look in to broadcasting too! LOL!
So cool to know it helped! Re: the radio voice. I started my media career on radio for several years before getting into TV! Appreciate it and thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for the tips! For that last tip I like to use the Compressor and then enable the limiter on top of that. I'm not an audio expert by any means but this seems to work out pretty well for me. Cheers.
@KevinKolbe no problem, you've got a pretty cool thumbnail, too! I've only made two videos, and it takes a lot of time, so I definitely appreciate the work you do and saved me time with this info 🙌🏻
@@SteveTV369 BTW, I do all my thumbnails (even the bad ones 😂) in Canva. Just in case you're looking for something like that, here's my link (affiliate): canva.7eqqol.net/KLDNv
Thank you so much! Im on the Final Cut Pro Trial and I see that the loudness feature is within the Equalization and don't know how to raise the loudness 😪
Great, Thanks. If you have finished a long interview, and your audio clips are split, can you use an audio adjustment layer, or do you just "select all?" I realize it should be done before any editing, but it's done now. Many thanks. I recently found you, and I am glad I did.
Great question. You have several options including the one you mentioned, adding an adjustment layer. Sometimes I'll select all and adjust. Sometimes I'll separate the audio, create a compound clip and do adjustments on it. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Thank you! I just realized you are in my area. I checked out your website and you are doing awesome work. BTW: Pierre Bensusan is a client of mine. I photographed him many times. Love him.@@KevinKolbe
Really appreciate it. Compressor is great even though I don't use it as much as I did. Is it worth the $50? Maybe. Is it a must-have? Can't say for sure.
QUESTION: If I didn't adjust audio before editing/cutting up a long video clip, is there a way to copy/paste equalization settings from 1 clip to the rest? Great video BTW... I just subscribed!
That is a great question (probably should do a video about it!). You can do this for ANY effect, visual and/or audio, too. Select the clip that has the affect and copy it. Go up to EDIT and select Paste Attributes. A box pops up and you can select or deselect what you want, click Apply, and you'll be good to go. If you have more than one effect that's why you may want to chose rather than apply all. If you have more than one clip you want to apply it to, simply select all then follow the same steps to Paste. And thanks for watching too!
The "dots" that appear on the timeline after I use the range tools are kinda like a key frame that allows something specific to happen at the exact frame of the video.
@@KevinKolbe I tried and googled it too. Lots of questions asking why you can’t. I export the audio portion, import and mute the audio in the MC. You also can’t Stabilize a clip either in MC. I have to export those video clips to cause FCP makes the best stabilizer plugin that I can find. Also dipping the audio track around the 750hz (maybe it’s 650ish but it’s the green nod) down about -20db using the Channel EQ. This works so well keeping the music and VO from clashing.
literally all im trying to do is delete my audio track (which is its own separate audio file track that i've imported) but when i click and delete the audio it deletes the clip track to?????
FCP will treat whatever you put on the primary storyline as a clip - audio only, video with audio, graphic, etc. So if you drop an audio track on the primary storyline then delete it, it deletes that track. If you're trying to keep the video and delete just the audio - right click and chose "detach audio" then delete the audio track. Hope that helps.

I do the same too. Compressor first, to make waveform more clear and balance... then apply limiter. Nice video tips. Thanks.
I’m still learning . Where is compressor ? How can u view it’s clear and balanced?

if i speed up the video. How can I preserve the voice? I already tried preserve pitch but it still sounds off.
Great question. Depending on the video clip, you can detach the audio speed up the video then just have the audio play normally.
I don’t get what u mean by it’s setting key frames at around (4:45)
The "dots" that appear on the timeline after I use the range tools are kinda like a key frame that allows something specific to happen at the exact frame of the video.

And ❤️ back at you!
UGHHHH Why can't you use Voice Isolation on a Multicam Clip still??
Hmmm. Haven't noticed that. Are you sure you can't, even if you do an audio mix clip?
@@KevinKolbe I tried and googled it too. Lots of questions asking why you can’t. I export the audio portion, import and mute the audio in the MC. You also can’t Stabilize a clip either in MC. You need to select only one audio component at a time in the multicam.
literally all im trying to do is delete my audio track (which is its own separate audio file track that i've imported) but when i click and delete the audio it deletes the clip track to?????
