How to Make Ballistics Gel

Ballistics Gel recipe:
1:8 ratio of ounces of powder to fluid ounces of water
(optional in my opinion: chill for 2 hours then remelt)
refrigerate for at least 8 hours
test your ballistics gelatin
clean and remold

I made my own gel and I’m target shooting it from 12 yards than at 15 yards but every ammo goes straight through. I’m not understanding this trick. So how far (YARDS) are you setting your gel target?

It depends on the speed of projectile !It is absolute necessaru to measute the speed of projectile at the point of impact with the gel block. You take a ball bearing of 4.3 mm diam and shot it from 3 m. There are some method for mesuring speed that you can build by your own. I sugest to use a compressed air gun and pellet which is not lethal and has a 190 m/s speed of projectile - so you have the speed pre determinated. Then square of speed divided by 2 and divided by the wound chanel will give you the deceleration for the gel . Now you know the deceleration, the speed so you can obtain the wound chanel - For example if you have a a hunt rifle with ammunition at 340 m/s you will need a block of balistic gel (standard of FBI) of 50 cm because the wound chanel wil be of 30 cm !

When you're cleaning out the debris is melted and dump it through a sifter strainer
