Finally i don't have to use my brother anymore to test my 1911
I'm sure he appreciates that.
@@TATVCanada I don’t think his brother has the ability to appreciate anything anymore…
*K A B O O M*
Na, keep using him.
Thank god 1911s are single stack. You're poor brother
One of the best homemade ballistics gel making vids I've seen. Thank you
Glad you found it useful.
$15? Wow. Thank you. I expected at least triple that amount . This makes it a lot more plausible for a normal person to do. thank you for the clear presentation
I was pretty surprised how cheap/easy it was. I've heard people say you need to use a double-boiler, spray-lube everything, it's super-expensive, blah blah blah... Not true. I have no idea why people pay so much for this stuff; it's a total joke.
IKR. Cool youtuber. Just subscribed. Best wishes to all.!
Great info . I work at a range and have been wanting to do this for a very long time .....
Linked this video in the description of a ballistics test I did. This was the best info out there; awesome job! While this is easy to make, it is very time consuming, lol.
To avoid hot mixing, and more even combination, you can bloom the gelatin in cold water for about 5 minutes. It will mix more readily in the hot water.
Fantastic, Thank you very much. Looking forward to you next video on this.
My pleasure and thanks for your comment.
Very thorough!
Another good video man, thanks!
Thank you sir.
That's awesome. I'll be trying this for sure. Excited to see what additives you come up with.
So far some are working well, others were a bust. Still trying to get my hands on some 35% hydrogen peroxide.
Pretty cool sounds like a fun lil experiment for this weekend, been wanting to shoot one for sometime now thank you
Glad you found it interesting.
Excellent concise video! Well done!
Thank you sir
Good stuff. Thanks!
Glad you found it useful.
Wow, I see lots of videos in the future with people using this. Good job👍🏻
Hopefully people find it useful. There was just no way I was paying $150+ for gel.
Thank you for the knowledge 🙏
Happy to help.
Finally I can test out _the plan_
Thank You, I will be giving it a try..
Excellent!
Awesome thank you for this, I couldn't believe how expensive horse hoofs are can't wait to try
I'm sure even in bulk they're jacking the price up about 500%!
@@TATVCanada oh yeah bout $40 a pound (roughly $30 USD) was the cheapest I could find, that being said I am in Australia land of overpriced everything. might honestly be cheaper for me to order the real deal at this point
I had NO idea it was this damn simple. Definitely making some. Always wanted to use this and thought you had to pay an arm and a leg.
So much of this stuff is just clever marketing. I'm still floored by the prices gun supply companies charge for "special" brass cleaning materials.
For some weird reason, I want to drink some beef broth.
It does sort of look like it, doesn't it?
Yea lol
*Pardon me sir*
They do sell beef gelatin.
@@TATVCanada can i have the exact gelatin brand
Great idea.
Thank you sir (long time, no see).
Well done. Thank you
Happy to help.
God bless you! CHEERZ!
Thank you.
Awesome thanks for the recipe 👍👍
Happy you found it useful, Julio.
There is another channel that uses plastisol which is the rubber used for fishing lures. They say it is a little tougher but very similar and it doesn't mold. You can re-melt it also. I have found different densities online but haven't tried any yet.
Interesting! Never heard of that before.
@@TATVCanada I just recently did. I'll see if I can track the video down for you.
ruclips.net/video/d8b1LKBoBro/видео.html
If you re-melt the clear ballistics brand blocks and get it too hot, it turns the same color. Lower temp may give you a block that's more clear.
Top stuff👍👍
Thank you, sir.
I’m going to try it, i’ve been wanting to try it on my 50-110WCF
Excellent, please share your results if you have the chance.
TATV Canada I will share it, thanks for sharing this
Use a fine mesh sieve to reduce clumps.
Awesome video thanks for the recipe, just a tip gelatin mixes easier in cold water than in hot water.🤜🤛👍
I work at Barnes in the lab. Everything looks good in how you did it besides the way you mixed it. What we do is pour the hot water into a 5 gallon bucket and mix the gel powder in slowly with an industrial looking plastic beater that chucks into a hand drill. Go slowly on the drill, or you'll get a lot of foam. When it's mixed, pour it into the mold.
I think I know what you're referring to; sort of like the bits you see people using to mix paint or cement?
I've compiled All OFFICIAL REAL GEL DATA on HST/Gold Dot/Critical Duty and want to start testing myself. Advise appreciated ruclips.net/video/oJxu88b9XUU/видео.html
Way cool 👍👍👏👏🤓
Probably better to start with less water before you start mixing in the gelatine, to reduce lumps
I got some life size skull and heart molds! I plan on putting paintballs in it to see if i can some how make my own bleeding target hopefully it works out
Oh wow that's really cool. Kind of reminds me of those "bleeding zombie" targets you used to see.
@@TATVCanadathats exactly where i got the idea from hoping to be able to make something similar! Btw have you tried 300° bloom gelatin supposedly the strongest gelatin would it make any difference to your knowledge
i made one with 8 pouhes of gello (50 mg each if i recall right) for like 450 ml of water.
"Gentleman, thaw your chickens."
I can't wait to see what that 12 gauge slug does to it .
Me too! I made this especially to test the Svarog Zveroboy fragmenting 12G's.
@@TATVCanada Savrog really makes neat slug molds.
finally, I no longer need live subjects
Excellent news.
Does this stuff rip easily?
I work with silicone, and it gets really expensive to try new molds, so i thought i could cast some gelatine to see if the mold looks right.
Problem is, the gelatine i made rips easily, so i cant get it out of the mold.
great vid, going shooting this weekend so im gonna try make some gel. how mnay pounds or grams of gelatine make 1 litre? cheers
Where did you get your gelatin? Definitively going to make some and see what my bore drives do out of my MR-X with white Hots.
Is this vessel 16” long by 6.25” wide roughly ?
You are a very Cool youtuber. Just subscribed. Havent made this yet but seems doable. Will try this coming week. Thank you kindly! Best wishes to all! o7
Thanks very much; glad you found it useful.
@@TATVCanada I searched prices online and they are insane imo. Seems like a hustle. Peace
Nice! This should be easy, just a 9:2 ratio and boiling.
And lots of stirring...
Can you make the gelatin a lot softer to measure the propeller pitch in it if it would even work?
Sorry not familiar with propeller pitch.
Great video, Thank you. My question, will this melt on a hot summer day at the range?
Yes, definitely. It gets to around 34c here in the summer and will become somewhat liquid.
Just to clarify that's a two letter bottle filled with gel ...???
Pretty awesome, dude. I plan on doing this to make sure some Russian ammo is up to spec.
Great video! how do you make it clear vs the yellow color?
Take a look at my subsequent videos on ballistic Gel additives.
just have to say, although as a non American I and most of the known world agree that the imperial system is a joke designed by a drunk mathematician rolling dice, I will say thank you for putting an easy conversion up, a lot of imperial users just act like its up to us to know, so from the rest of the world thank you.
I'm actually Canadian, but I hear you.
Finally a math easy recipe. 😁Been wanting to make this for awhile now. How big of a block did this make?
Yeah it's been on my 'hit-list' for a while, too. Block size is 18" x 9.5" x 6.6".
How heavy is block
What ia the weight in kg of 2L of gelatin powder?
Would have been nice to see how you “melt it down” and what that process is. But this is awesome and will save me and many others some serious money. Thanks for posting! (Part 2 for melting process so they can be re-used)? 😬 Thanks!
It's not very exciting but basically you cut it up into pieces, toss them in a pot on low heat and mix til liquid again. Then pour it right back into the same container to set.
@@TATVCanada Cool. Thank you!
Good vid. All the other vids say not to boil the water. They say 107°F is optimal.
I've heard both, but found the gelatin dissolves much better when it's boiling. I guess whatever works for folks is the best way.
in ozs.
great video with the easiest instructions i found so far, and chapter 2 with acids as well.. just one question , you said that water should boil but everywhere it is said it should be at around 40°C when mixing.. since video is time wise nicely edited and cut to length we can see only that you poured only once so are all 9L boiling water or is it some ratio of boiling and tap water? people also do it two steps, room temperature mix, cooling and melting again before pouring into molds and final cooling.. you made it all in one step right?
I boiled it all, and poured in one step. I'm sure there are other ways but that's the method I use and it seems to work fine.
@@TATVCanada thank you for the reply, it wasnt 100% clear from the video thats why im asking as I want to follow it correctly.. oh one more question.. did peroxide go in while it is still hot or we have to wait few minutes to get a bit cooler before we mix it in?
Question. What size container, inside measurements, are you using for your mold?
Haven't measured it but it's designed to hold two rows of cd jewel cases
cold water helps so you dont have to mix it so much
I didn't realize that the gelatin could be melted and reused. I always that they threw away the ballistics gel after ever test.
I imagine the FBI and other labs do, but I certainly reuse mine.
Does it get soft like Jell-O when it gets warm?
Yes.
Thanks a lotnfornthis.Greetings from Hungary 🇭🇺
Glad you found it useful.
My question; is it able to be shipped and still hold it's density upon delivery?
Maybe in winter or late fall, the rest of the time it would be too warm.
How long is that jell usefull after making? and will it loose its "accuraccy" with time?
Seems to be ok a year later.
Where did you buy the gelatin? Also awesome video very informative!!
Bulk Barn.
I was thinking they had to put in something special to make it differ from the ordinary jello you would see as a food item consumed.
It's basically the same product without any coloring or flavor.
What is the best way to melt this down to be able to use it again? Thanks
Cut it up, throw it in a pot on the stove, repour.
Try peroxide as a preservative.
I did; there's a second video covering all the additives I tested.
I know this is an old video, but if I want a shorter piece of handmade gel, do i reduce the amounts of water and gelatine?
As long as you reduce everything consistently so that the ratios remain unchanged, you should be able to produce it in any volume you like.
Considering that it’s made from the connective tissue of several kinds of animals...I can understand why it probably isn’t a thrill to work with.
Mmmmm-Mmmm, good eatin' ha ha.
They charged me 80 bucks at the bulk barn for the gelatine powder here in Ontario. I have a giant bag of it now. Wondering if I measured it wrong… I’m waiting to find the right container before attempting to make this
Holy crap that's nuts.
@@TATVCanada yeah man! I’m looking at the measurements again though and I think I got WAY too much 😂 do you have an Instagram I can follow and connect with you on brother?? Love your stuff!
Does the jello brand matter
I doubt it.
Ya the air bubbles are from you mixing it way to fast. Mix it slowly to reduce air bubbles
Will this melt outside? I'd be afraid to end up with a puddle of soup at the range.
Depending on ambient air temperature.
Drill with paint/mud mixer
Yes I've since purchased one of those. Solid investment.
I’m trying to find a video of someone EATING ballistic gel but I can’t find any videos on RUclips:(
If it tastes as bad as it smells, that would be pretty nasty.
How would it taste if you made it with flavored jello?
Try it and let us know heh.
I assume to “reuse” you just cut up sections an heat in a deep pot?
Pretty much. My system is to just dice it up and cram it into am old crock pot I use for things in the shop (which don't include cooking, ha).
how strong of a punch can it handle and will it break in half under pressure?
No clue, and it's gelatin so it won't break, it just tears or deforms.
@@TATVCanada I think tears is better you are right.
I was thinging of making a thing to punch from it, thanks for the help.
You have an awesome channel! Why did you stop making videos?
Mandatory overtime at work all through covid. I'm going to be starting up again in the next month or two though now that things have settled down.
@TATV Canada fantastic! I look forward to more of your future videos.
Sorry pal you mean you fill up a measuring jug with gelatine powder to the 2 ltr mark trying to order some online but they only sell it in lbs and kgs
How long would it last?
I can't really say as I don't know what conditions you'd be using/storing it in. I can tell you mine never spoiled, although it will melt during the summer.
My vessel is 16x6x6 roughly and it only holds about 6.5 litres. What’s the measurements to make this consistency with 6.5 litres of water ?
Not sure on the math as I haven't made in a while. You'd have to calculate it I'm afraid.
@@TATVCanada I ended up going with a 5.31:1.19 ratio for the vessel I’m using. It’s setting now so we’ll see how it goes!
Does anyone know how to make ballistic gel that doesn't melt? Like some extra ingredient that can keep it from melting? I want to make some home made arch supports for my shoes, but I know good and well that it will melt if I slice some and put it into my shoes.
You'd have to use a material with a higher melting point, like silicon.
@@TATVCanada can u add suggar?
how is your so hard and tough?
So what if you use flavored gelatin 🤔
Then I suppose it would taste very very strong.
Does anyone here have the weight ratio because I have gelatin leaves
Could you actually use this stuff called Thick it which makes water thick and anything else it's for people that can't drink normal water because of an issue with your throat from Nerf that would work good
Never heard of it, but it would have to be pretty dense.
Would it melt in the heat ?
Yes definitely.
Your ratio is 9:2. Almost all other u tubers are 8:1, 9:1, 10:1, no one else was using your 9:2 ratio. So idk. I might make one batch 9:2 and another 9:1 and see what difference is. I'm cheap and don't want to use any more gellatin than necessary. :) I did see on utube the fb I uses 10% and 20% ballistic gel and was thinking yours might be like the 20%. Idk. Nice informative video. Thanks.
what tipe (bloom) gelatine did you use?
yeah and what brand was it?
Just generic gelatin from a local bulk foods store.
Can you confirm how many lbs of gelatin it took to fill a 2L bottle? If my terrible math skills are correct, that’s about 3lbs of powder? Much appreciated! Jason @BallisticImpressions
Honestly I mixed it up so long ago I don't really recall.
first time same
is there any issue if i leave it in the fridge for like 20 hours?
mine is also very small (400 ml)
Nope.
Where did you get the container
It's a double wide cd storage container I bought from Walmart.
@@TATVCanada thanks
This is the only approved recipe for fbi standards testing that i know of. That clear gel stuff isn't fbi standard, that's the marketing department putting whatever they want on their boxes. I dont even watch videos if they aren't using this kind of protein based gelatin like the FBI.
I haven't used the clear stuff personally so I can't say; but I'm definitely with you in that if this is what Uncle Sam tests with, then its what I'll use.
Does this simulate huma flesh?
Yes indeed.
2 litres gelatin & 9 litres water
Can you make a smaller recipe
Sure; cut the ingredients in half or a 1/4.
@@TATVCanada thanks
I was wonder how tf you calibrate a block of gel with zero electronics 🙃 but you had already thought of that.
Water and gelatin.... thats it?
In the basic version, pretty much.
