    I feel that the writers of the show never intended for the audience to side with Kim and Jimmy against Howard, there's a sense of darkness swirling all around it. Jimmy is definitely not 100% on board, but he's pushing forward because Kim wants it and it's making her "happy", for lack of a better term. They're both on a real bad choice road now.

    The episode title is a reference to the classic film “Days of Wine & Roses”, about an alcoholic couple struggling to control their addiction, but their mutual enablement & co-dependence just end up reinforcing it in each other and send them both spiraling downward together. In other words, it’s a big ol’ honking hint that that your take on Kim & Jimmy’s behavior is pretty much on the mark.
    Also, pretty much every moment of that house-cleaning montage is filled with Easter eggs foreshadowing details & events of the upcoming season, none of which you would have any way of recognizing at this point. And fwiw, that lush instrumental arrangement of the song “Days of Wine & Roses” heard during the opening was an old recording conducted by Jackie Gleason, larger-than-life 1950’s show biz celebrity best known today as the creator/producer of the early sitcom “The Honeymooners” where he starred as Ralph Kramden, because apparently conducting albums of easy-listening music was the sort of side-gig that 50’s. Celebrities engaged in.

    On the official Podcast... Vince and Peter Gould talked about the story behind Lalo's double.. Lalo spotted this random guy in the village who was a dead ringer for him, offered him a job as a caretaker on his property and a place to stay there.. they thought they hit the lottery.. that he was just a kind benefactor. They guy and his wife didnt know he was just an "emergency exit strategy"... or that the dental visit was so that Lalos personal dentist could switch their records.

      Btw if you wanna get into the head of the filmmakers of this show... the official podcast is a must listen. They go over *everything*, with everyone from the cast to the cinematographers, editors, prop masters, even the people who pick the music.

    • @briangonigal3974
      @briangonigal3974 10 месяцев назад +3

      Glad they came up with the “switched their records” take on the dental work, so that the corpses dental work would seem to match Lalo’s dental records (*very* minor spoiler for next week, deal with it), because the alternate theory that everyone assumed initially, that the dentist actually went in and altered the double’s dental work so that it perfectly matched Lalo’s, just didn’t really make any sense and was a practical impossibility.

    They are not long,
    The days of wine and roses:
    Out of a misty dream our path emerges for a while,
    Then closes within a dream.
    I loved the longer reaction! If you are able to keep doing these, I'm all for them! This is the kind of thing I'd watch on a Patreon if you ever got one!

    Few things I’m gonna have to comment on this one. First, note the appearance of “the Time Machine” at 4:09. This comes back a few times this season.
    As per the format of the episode, I honestly prefer it cut down a little bit. You could maybe upload the cut version as public then put the full episode reaction as an unlisted link in the description? I doubt full length would stay up longer than a few months.
    The reason Saul gives himself the “Jewish” defense at the country club is because probably half the time if I had to guess, having “man” in a last name is a sign of Jewish ancestry. Also I love Saul’s comment on the membership director “just following orders” 😂
    Also, small detail but I like how Lalo starts speaking in Spanish so that he knows if the receptionist speaks it or not. Because if they know Spanish that would be pretty bad for them to hear what he was saying lol
    Really been enjoying your reactions through this show, looking forward to this season especially!

      Saul is also a Jewish name (it was notably the name of the first king of Israel, the one who killed himself by falling on his own sword and whose life is chronicled in the Book of Samuel).
      In his debut Breaking Bad episode, Saul even tells Walt (when he came to him posing as Badger's uncle) his real name and adds "The Jew thing, I just do for the homeboys. They all want a pipe-hitting member of the tribe, so to speak".

    "This feels like a Hunger Games title: Wine and Roses..." LMFAO. I can see that. Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but since you mentioned the title at the beginning of the reaction (I'm just starting it), Days of Wine and Roses is a classic tune from the 60s written by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer, and is the music scoring the opening montage sequence here...

    great reaction as always Elie! thank you!
    couple notes: I don't think anyone was "yay Kim & Jimmy gooo" at this point, its all cringe and bad... showrunners were also aiming for us to feel this way I feel like. they wanted us to slowly reach at a point where we stop rooting for Jimmy... and Kim.
    see I love Kim but she has addiction issues (rooted in her childhood) and Jimmy enables it. which you pointed out perfectly. I always say BCS is a love story and I stand by it but of course it's deeper than that, lots of layers, and we will talk about it all later when its all done and dusted I believe.

    Jimmy and Kim are on the Walt trajectory pretty much
    Except I was done with Walt from day one (still my fav in BB after Hank)
    And yah Cliff is good natured, environmentally conscious, non-judgemental and now they're trying to mess with his mind.
    The fandom by and large shares the same love for Rich you have and also a love for Clifford

    Haven't watched the reaction yet but a fun fact about this episode is that when the director of this one heard that he will be directing 6.1, he was so happy cos he thought he would be filming a B&W sequence as all the season openers and was bummed when heard that it wasn't gonna happen in this one :)

  • @pencil6965

    As far as I can tell, nothing in their situation forced them into this sinister scheme, they are riding a lil high after some successful smaller cons and it’s really just a depiction of their true colors finally showing. While most people are turned off by their actions there are some who try to rationalize it (“Howard/Chuck treated them poorly blah blah”). I just don’t see how “good people” can suddenly switch and become so evil unless it was brewing in them all along. Like… they are seasoned at this, it’s a skill that doesn’t just fall into place out of nowhere

    • @benjaminroe311ify
      @benjaminroe311ify 10 месяцев назад

      I agree is truly is a bad choice evil path they are getting a high from. I don't think it defines them completely though as people are multifaceted for sure.

  • @SteveNathn

    I see somebody else commented on this but I will as well lol. If you haven’t already noticed it, most of the episode titles this season have multiple meanings. Wine and roses is like you mentioned, kind of an “upper class” vibe. But also, the song that plays in the opening montage is an instrumental version of the theme from the 1962 film “Days of Wine and Roses”. Here is the IMDb plot summary: “An alcoholic marries a young woman and systematically addicts her to booze so that they can share his "passion" together”.
    There is an obvious parallel to Jimmy and Kim here. The show starts with Jimmy “addicted” to his schemes and Kim a regular lawyer. But he slowly gets her indeed somewhat systematically more involved in his antics to the point that now she’s the one pushing him forward, rather than the other way around. And this is how their relationship stays together. They seem far more connected with each other in this episode than they did in many earlier episodes imo

    like the longer format, but I think it is dangerous for the channel. you get a copyright strike and there is very little that you can do about it, three copyright strikes and the channel gets deleted. I don't know if they can do the three copyright strikes in a row without notification but it is a possibility (I wouldn't put that past entertainment lawyers, full stop)

  • @crairdin

    Consider this: If the writers agreed with you - that Jimmy and Kim are wrong to go after Howard - and wrote the show the way you would like it written - Kim stays with S&C and Jimmy goes to work for Howard at HHM - then there wouldn't even be a show. We're supposed to realize that Jimmy and Kim are worse together than they are alone, but we're also supposed to be cheering for them because that's what the show is about. And also because Howard is a total douche. OF COURSE things aren't going to turn out well for Jimmy and Kim - the fun is in watching it happen. And in this case, watching it happen to one of the more horrible people on the show - Howard "Hamlindigo Blue" Hamlin.

    This is the origin story of a scumbag lawyer. The writers are explicitly showing us that this is an immoral person. It’s literally the whole point of the show. Thinking that you’re calling Saul out is a little naive and ridiculous.
    Yeah, water is wet.

    • @briangonigal3974
      @briangonigal3974 10 месяцев назад

      That’s not really fair. The whole reason Saul got his own show is that his own show is that he was so popular on Breaking Bad. We all LOVED his wacky antics on that show and in the early seasons of this one, especially since the creators were so devious as to introduce Jimmy on BCS at the moment in his life when he was genuinely trying his hardest to walk the straight & narrow, showing us that there really is a good person there deep down. So we could enjoy falling for his billboard “Hero” rescue con and revel in his tales of making squat cobbler videos even as we were grudgingly thankful for Kim & Chuck for calling him out on his behavior so that he could see the error of his ways and remain “likeable”, until they both proved to be such inadequate moral guardians and we gradually realize that the WHOLE POINT OF THE SHOW is to call us all out for ever falling for Saul’s charms in the first place and showing us just what a cancer on society a Saul Goodman is in real life.

    I know Jimmy is being a total scumbag, but I can't help but laugh at how dramatic the guy can be when he puts his mind to it. Pulling the antisemitism card over his fake jewish name😆.
    At this point you just have to accept sympathetic Jimmy is gone and embrace Saul and all his shenanigans

    I don't think what they are doing is romanticizing what Kim and Jimmy are doing. They aren't making them feel heroic. We all know where things are headed. I think we are supposed to squirm and feel uncomfortable. Even Jimmy feels bad about it. We are watching a slow train wreck. It's tragic. That's the opposite of romanticizing.

    Howard did things that Jimmy and Kim just can't forgive. And it's taken a long time, but the chickens will come home to roost. Maybe they will take it too far, even for these two masters of the con job.
