the history behind the track is dope
the Pete Rock Mix is like the live version, the Diddy mix is what you hear in the dentist waiting room.
+ross martinet accurate
+ross martinet Lol!
Diddy is the shadyest producer in history of humankind
Yeah but probably the greatest at the same time tho. No one can take that away from him, he is a real producer.
Folklorick """"producer""""
Diddy stole this beat from Pete Rock, took credit for Flava In Ya Ear remix mocking Easy Mo Bee. The majority of the tracks he "produced" had ghostproducers or coproducers behind, or people actually playing instruments and drum machines cause he can't do shit cause is unable.
Plus the majority the tracks he "made" were legally stolen ideas from other hit song cause he payed royalties, for example Satisfy You has the same beat of I got 5 it with minor differences, Can't Nobody Hold Me Down is the same beat of "the message" and so on. He's a living fraud and a producer with no talent whatsoever, he's only good to steal other ideas and take credit.
Thomas H technically Puff is a more of a producer than a beat maker , he knows how to put together songs and albums for his artists
Kanye and Dre are the greatest producers
Here I was thinking "Man, this lazyass beat?" but this turned out to be one of the most interesting breakdowns by far.
+Mick's Picks ya boi found an angle
+Sandurz Lmao
+Sandurz lol
Pete’s sounds so damn 90s. I love it. I wouldn’t even be mad at the Puff version if he gave Pete the credit tho. He literally did nothing but let the original beat play. No pitches or anything. Damn shame
Pete Rock's version is for in the car on the way to the club. Diddy's version is what you hear in the club.
U just exposed diddy lmao
SANDURZ ON THE SCENE GIVING YOU THE SCOOP BEHIND THIS SHIT LEARN THE REAL STORY
I had a joke about Diddy just being the "executive producer" type producer and never actually making beats only because they never invented a sampler that hooked up to the giant keyboard from Big so he could just dance his beats out. But I forgot about it.
+Sandurz Bruh I hadn't had time to stop by on stream but I really got a thank you again. These shits are amazing and I think I found a hobby I'm going to enjoy for the rest of my life. Keep this shit up and you still haven't finished that Let Me Ride breakdown... I remember shit too lol
+Sandurz "Any artist out there that want to be an artist and stay a star, and don't have to worry about the executive producer trying to be all in the videos, all on the record, dancing… come to Death Row!"
Can You Do Chance The Rapper Lost ?
+Sandurz joke breakdown.
You did everything correctly except the drum pattern bro. Great breakdown, but I promise if you listen to the song the pattern is a lot different.
Apparently the same thing happened to Pete Rock for the beat used for 'Jazz (We've Got)' by A Tribe Called Quest and he didn't get the proper credit, it's very unfortunate.
+JayP10888 And he felt hurt when Lupe recreated his TROY beat for a song. Poor Pete.
+audiodopebeats lol yeah kind of a dick move even cause then people think he gets credit for it
JayP10888 So he got fucked over twice. Man, that's bad. If I were Pete, I'd be really pissed off
JayP10888 i don't think the Tribe one is that bad considering the fact that Tip shouted him out AND Tip is a way better producer than Diddy. He could've easily done something similar to Pete Rock whereas Diddy's is a joke compared to Pete's. I hope that makes sense. plus the real hip hop heads know who made it. just like real hip hop heads know Tip produced most of Tribe's earlier stuff and it wasn't produced by "the group"
And Pete did do two remixes for Tribe's songs later too so i guess that "kinda" made up for it...lol!
I've seen Pete tell the story. The record was on the turntable. Diddy saw it and heard what Pete was doing and then went back and used the sample as is like he did with everything!
I must say this was one of the best break downs! Especially the drums man they are so thick and pounding! Good look!
at 0:45 i just could not resist shouting "it was all a dream!"
This one's dope because of that extra story to it.. I would definitely like to see a few more of these. Thanks for the awesome vids
I love this. You got some hip-hop history going for you, and it's great for people who haven't always been following the game.
I was in the car today listening to this and was thinking you should make a best breakdown of it. Crazy.
This is so sick. Do more stories like this!
do T.R.O.Y. by pete rock and CL smooth. what a great beat on that song.
+Ben Messer One of my most favorite Beats!!
I agree
Do "Hypnotize" by Biggie.
love watching these videos.
Great videos man! sooooo happy i found you're channel cheers again :)
Yeah. This is Diddy alright. A straight poser.
Fuckin dope as shit.
Always knew the history of this track. Nice to see it presented in video form.
Collard Greens by ScHoolboy Q or some other TDE songs
Nick Bee i don't think there a sample in that song
great episode, didn't know about the Pete Rock version!
Pete rock = magician
And ppl say history is boring!!!!
THIS IS WHAT NEEDS TO BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS
sandurz you should teach your an inspiring person love your passion and determination your professionalism and the finished product is good one day you will be headhunted by Apple or someone
First full vid I've watched of yours. I'm subbed now, trying to just start getting into this beatmaking thing and gotta say - you flipped this into a good vid because of the story behind it, can't wait to see more. Hope you're getting the shine you deserve from these vids and the website.
+Mac2095 also just had to throw in after watching a couple more of your vids - digging the flannels, man... you almost even make it look like you're wearing them by choice and not cuz you gotta chop a buncha trees down in the morning w/o getting the sawdust all over ya. damn fine work chop beats not trees
+Mac2095 also just had to throw in - I'm real drunk writing these so no harm no foul eh? But fr glad I found the channel man keep it up
+Mac2095 LOL these last two are great
+Mac2095 thanks man I didn't think this would make a good vid but then I remembered the whole story behind it and ran with it. And you know the shine there YOU KNOW
History is great. As a producer Puff did what he was tasked to do. Trackmasters made this thing "The Miracle Dream". #2 is the best hands down!
Idk if you like requests but High by Madlib and Freddie Gibbs would be cool
+yung squid Please
Nice work men! Was searching for something like this for a while! Nice details and everything clear and simple! Do you maybe know, which Piano Mtume used in the song? In the version of Diddy its soooo smooth, what did diddy and track masters do to make it so smooth. I wanna recreate that Piano Sound of Juicy, so i need to know which piano Mtume originally used, and what Diddy and his Producers did after. Can you help? :D
This is my number 1 favorite hip hop song of all time so it was interesting hearing about how it all went down. I didn't know that Diddy did this to Pete Rock. Damn it, what didn't Diddy do? (South Park reference)
The good stuff
GENIUS!!
Awesome!!!
Nice beat breakdown
Now lemme watch it
+Duarte Moreira i'll let this be your thing
+Sandurz Please do "Piss on your grave" by travis scott
I would recommend Regulate by Warren G feat. Nate Dogg, classic sample-based hip-hop song with many layers.
Great videos! I like them and am LIKING them! Any chance you could do 'Milkshake' by Kelis? I'm in love with old Neptunes productions.
+MrHurricanranas old Neptunes is something I want to do! I need to track down the exact sound bank from their Tritons and shit because I know I can get those sounds exactly for a lot of their stuff, and doing anything else wouldn't be as good lol
wow, didn't know that drum break at 0:53 was the same one used earlier in the album for the intro of One More Chance, when all the girls are leaving him messages on the machine.
Diddys version is more radio friendly Thant petes version
Tru
It's literally not his version though, I hate seeing people saying he's the producer, he just took the instrumental of someone else's song and overlayed biggie's vocals.
If you could do "Ready To Die" by B.I.G that would be incredible!
Dude I'm here waiting for you to do Nuthin But a G Thang by Dr. Dre smh!!!!
Can you do All of the Lights??
Amazing episode as always! Just a question though, do you have any more complex beats planned or started? I love those ones the most :)
+JoseTheSkateNerd yep there will be some soon for sure!
I'd say Pete Rock's version is better, but Big on Diddy's version sounds better than Big on Pete's in my opinion
The Pete Rock version kicks..I heard the original plenty, so to hear it altered was refreshing
Damn diddy is an idea thief bro😂😂😂😂
Another great episode! I'm glad that you started this "Start From Scratch" Series too. I've been studying audio production at Full Sail University for about a year now with a ton of equipment on hand but haven't been picking up skills for making beats although I know how to a little and have produced some stuff hear and there. I'll be sure to check those videos out and send you some finished work in the future. Whats the best way to send you some instrumentals?
+Evan Chase can hit the email for best shot a response! Or there's the Critique livestreams where you can submit at beatbreakdown.net and get in the lineup.
Great! Thank you sir.
You should breakdown:
• A Tribe Called Quest - Jazz (We've Got)
• Busta Rhymes - It Ain't Safe No More
• Freddie Gibbs - B.A.N.ned
&
• Nas - Take It In Blood
Jani Lovejoy
Jazz is my favorite song by The Tribe
Is there a full of this version, this one sounds different to the other ones here on RUclips? It sounds so clean and has pauses the other ones don't.
thanks 😄😄
might as well invite Mtume over to play it themselves
Pete rocks version🔥🔥🔥🔥
Pete ROCK!
Hell of a Night by Travis Scott or Ginseng Strip 2001 by Yung Lean would be dope!
+k12jaston Yung Gud produced that one :-)
diddy the king of culture vultures
Any song by chance the rapper on his acid rap album!
100 by The Game?
I learned a lot thanks sandman :)
+Christian Chaires thanks Christian! Glad to hear it
+Sandurz Great little history lesson. Fun to hear your opinions too.
This episode is like a history lesson lmao
I gotta give it to the album version Juicy.
Both versions great, but i knew that version for so long so it is hard to change my opinion on that
"It was all a dream, Used to read word up magazines"
Nice
diddy out here straight robbing
damn never did know this!!!! wow
Can you do, Coup - My Favorite Mutiny please :)
Please make Gangsta Gangsta by NWA pls!
Nice ! Please do one for Gang Starr -Royalty
And Jeru The Damaja - Tha Bullshit :)
Jeru the damaja- cant stop the prophet
do a Charles Hamilton beat please. his chops are crazy
please do blood on the leaves by kanye
Could you do a beat breakdown for Big's "Unbelievable"? I've looked up on whosampled.com and found out they used "Impeach The President" for the drums, but I can't figure out how they did the pattern
All they did was slow down the drums , that's it.
Puffy’s beats are like the complete opposite of what beat makers like Havoc produced.
Me diddy pete rock and abiggie grew up with Mtume...So i know as soon as puff heard petes version, he knew what it was,,,that was rocked on a normal on the radios, in house parties, the parks all that son....we grew up to what we sample.
Can you do a meek mill video for Dc4
can you do Wesley Theory and King Kunta by Kendrick Lamar please
Can you do Villuminati by J. Cole?
more requests incoming
sir michael rocks- nwo
sir michael rocks-perfect
pouya- pumpin the slug
pouya ft sir michael rocks- fye
P diddy acts like a vicar. All love talk yet screws people over
M.a.a.d City by Kendrick Lamar
The first half of that song is extremely simple lol
+Sydney White yeah and judging by this video, no simple breakdowns allowed.
Dankleburgs The second part would be more interesting. That BB King flip was cleam
funny that diddy went straight to the jackmasters who are notorious for jacking other producers beats. (pun intended)
When's the next twitch event?
OH GOD ITS DIDDY!!!!
Pete Rock's remix is not the original beat he made. His original beat sounded much closer to the one that made the album. He explained that in an interview.
if we could do requests I would say
he who ate all the caviar by mac miller
and multiply by asap rocky
I just thought of more
keith sweat-lil b
can't tell me nothing- kanye west
The one dislike is diddy
rolling stone by black hippy?
Do Real eyes by Quasimoto
do some southern hip hop like old school three 6 or UGK
Hail mary by tupac pls
sandurz man you gotta do some Jesus Walks - Kanye West. gotta give the people what they waaaaaaaaaaaant
+DisturbedDood119 never heard of it
Dizzy Wright - The Flavor feat. SwizZz (Prod by 6ix) would be an awesome breakdown
damn poke owned it
wow
The Food - Common ft. Kanye West? pleaseeeee
J dilla - Don't Cry, that would be very interesting
in my opinion, the best beat/music always wins, regardless of anything else. im glad things happened the way they did, because biggie just rapping over the original instrumental is a lot better than pete rocks version. it just has a way more classic vibe. i dont think juicy wouldve been as classic over pete's version. it doesnt have that vibe, its just another good boom bap beat. the drum beat on the original has a really unique, vintage feel to it, too.props to Mtume for producing Juicy
+zachyg if it was any other verses at all on that beat I'd agree but that's some of the most iconic shit ever spit and I think it would have been almost equally iconic over the Pete Rock version. BUT the drums and vibe on the Mtume is definitely forward-thinking in a hip-hop context with how sparse it is despite having all of the older sounds so that did play a substantial part. But also I think it coulda been a huge track over almost any beat.
It's funny how much better the production quality is if you compare it to the original release...
What's the song at the beginning?
+anthonyterms track of mine called 'whereisit'
Nice, you should do some more complicated beats too
+ntrnka. Dude did POWER by Kanye.
Spring Daze I know, I just mean. In general, more
+ntrnka. nah i did POWER now it's just samples and drum breaks from here on out
Sandurz If you gonna do more kanye let me suggest Black Skin Head or All Day
They did use the Pete Rock version for the remix. Bro, black people of a certain age know the song "Juicy Fruit" very well. It was a big hit on the RnB scene.
