Wasn’t planning to buy a tv this year but my 2.5 year old Sony XR77 inch A80J just went out all of the sudden and no I didn’t purchase the extended warranty. Sony really let me down but anyway, I just ordered the 77 inch LG G4. I’m pretty excited, I’ve always purchased Sony TVs. Besides the awesome picture, I’m looking forward to the flat wall mounting.
My thought on G4 is that even at smaller sizes it is hard to say no to it. The only alternative to G4 on smaller sizes is the A95L for me‚ as I don't like the matte S95D and also the processing on Samsung is too disappointing (not even to mention the lack of DTS and Dolby Vision).
Looking forward to a comparison against the Sony 85" Bravia 9. I'm not convinced the G4 will be a clear winner, especially when you factor in Sony's better brightness, traditionally better processing and the superior googletv interface...

Hi Brian! Thanks for another great video. I’ll probably buy this very model (83” G4 w/calibration & the black magic marker bezel correction by Value Electronics), but I really want to see the shootout with the upcoming Z3 (by the way, the Value Electronics webpage for the Z3 suggests that there will still be an 88” size Z3 - but it’s $25,000 again this year 😢). I hope you will again compare the 4K winner against the 8K winner, just like you did last year - AFAIK you’re the only reviewer who did that! The 77” Z3 at $10,000 is still a consideration if it wins - we could just sit closer to it 😊
My pleasure, Mason! The challenge with the Z series is that it has MLA or will lack the new processor. The Z3 is available in 77" and 88" . The 77" is only available in the US as of this moment. I'd still get the G4.
Missed this one but some of the folks on AVS are loosing their minds again. They don't get that you really like how it looks, that it can game well, and suits what you want. Calibration is a must do. The tv looks great, but you can still see the tv do the typical bluish colors. Even with calibration done, I know that fades up a little , but it's one of the ways WRGB puts light in the picture. It's just part of evo panels. MLA is definitely helping. Great vid Brian - Personally I am excited for the C4 as I am on the verge of buying my first OLED & I have a very light controllable room for mostly evening viewing & G4 will be too bright plus I cannot afford. Waiting to take delivery should be installed with in the week. Should I run the this tv for a few weeks then have a pro calibration. Kind of pumped and can’t wait much longer till the LG 83 G4 gets here.
Better than A95L? I don't believe that for a second although I'm not shelling out for either one. I'll decide later this year between 65" Sony A80L or Bravia 7. Ain't paying more than $3000 for any TV ever....
Great review! I’ve been waiting a long time for the 83 G4 and it was finally delivered last week. Unfortunately I am experiencing an issue with the HDMI 2 earc port which after watching an internal app and switching back, scrambles the picture of any source connected to my AV - Apple TV, bluray player, satellite box etc . Quick google search and it seems there are a LOT of people reporting this issue across multiple forums with no fix in sight. Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing this.
I'd rather go for the Sony Bravia 9. The blacks and contrast etc are close enough and allows me to save $1000.00. Additionally, Sony's backlight demonstration is enough for me to wait a few more weeks and see/compare.
The C2 is very good! I still live my C1. The G4 is a very big upgrade and the 77" size is epic. If you have the room ofcourse. I'd definitely go for it.
Great video, but I have a little caveat, lol: Oh there is most certainly a competitor. Maybe not in all areas, but in some that it will definitely beat the G4. The Bravia 9. It won't beat the G4 is black level/contrast. But it will beat it in HDR. It will beat it in shadow detail and accuracy in many instances, it will beat the G4 is proper color and especially at high brightness volume. It will equal or beat it in processing as well. Personal bias is not a "fact". It's an opinion.😉 Man that silver bezel is glowing, very distracting. Of course it's a great TV (G4) I would get it if it wasn't for the Bravia 9 which I feel is the TV to beat. Not everything is sitting in a dark room. But I can safely say it's my opinion and not a fact. 😆
On the first shots of the G4 it looked like the protective film was still on? It was hard to get off of my G3. The pulling tab broke as well. It's a big difference if so. Edit: you mentioned it maybe 😁🙈 Btw I love the alu bezel. Looks so premium, no distraction whatsoever.. Great video. 🤟🏻
How does it do with heat? My G3 77” puts off a lot of heat and warms up my room a lot after a few hours of watching which is problematic in the summer. I’ve been considering the 83, but that had me concerned. I see that the G4 has noticeably high power consumption this year on the value electronics spec sheet. So to me that means more heat.
Buyer Beware !! I received my 83” G4 this week. Picture is great but there is a widespread issue with the HDMI2 input earc. This input does not work properly. No sound or picture. I’ve read online that LG is aware of the problem . Has any one else heard or experienced this issue?
Hi Brian! I saw on one of the 83’s it looked like a standard pedestal stand. Do you know if that is the Sanus stand that is typically recommended, and would you suggest that as an option if we don’t want to wall mount the TV? And curious if you have heard whether the new 83” lg stand will still have a tilt or not?

I'll likely buy it but waiting for 65 version to go bellow 2000 eur. Got two 65 g3s which I'm reselling
Hello, what do you think about the uniformity of the panel, last year the 83-inch panels had big banding problems when viewing content.
This will be great!!
Thanks Brian
Thank you Craig!
Sit a little closer and a projector simply cannot compete, all at a fraction of the cost!
Brian is going from a 65" c2 to a 77" g4 worth the upgrade? C2 was my first oled and never had a tv bigger than 65 🤔
The C2 is very good! I still live my C1. The G4 is a very big upgrade and the 77" size is epic. If you have the room ofcourse. I'd definitely go for it.
Is LG G4 83'' better (I mean more detailed picture) than Sony A90J 83''?
I’m waiting for g6 🤩🤩
From a Sony xr-83a90J, which model is the best ?
- Bravia 9 in 85"
- LG G4 in 83"
- other one ?
Thanks 😁
The G4 at 83" . The G4 is the brightest oled to date, and it also has the Alpha 11 processing, which is more than a match for Sony's processing.
Great video, but I have a little caveat, lol:
Oh there is most certainly a competitor.
It's an opinion.😉
Man that silver bezel is glowing, very distracting.
Edit: you mentioned it maybe 😁🙈
Btw I love the alu bezel. Looks so premium, no distraction whatsoever..
Great video. 🤟🏻
I shot two separate. The film was on the tv where I showed the back of it and bezel and the main tv had nothing on the screen . Thank you for watching
Do these 83 inch tvs come with stands? or do they need to be mounted
LG definitely need to get rid of this silver bezel straight away..
Hey Brian, where did you get this stand? Mine only came with wall mount
is there that much difference on the G3 83?” we usually watch movies at night, on & off whatever is on tv during daytime.
I want to see the G4 vs Sony Bravia 9 vs Sony A95L vs G3 vs Sony X95L.
Amazing.
Does the G4 83 comes with 2nd gen MLA or only the first?
You think G4 is still best TV and good deal at 5k?
I'm considering in trading up my 92" screen black diamond screen and projector to LG G4 83" later this year.
When you review 65 inch G4, please check what types of USB ports it has and if you can get high speed wired Ethernet via USB ports. Thanks.
Do you think this is significantly better than the a90j? Is it worth upgrading from the Sony ?
I found one today for 4400 👍👍
Awesome! Thank you for watching
LOVE this tv but I cannot unsee that silver bezel. I’ve tried, but it’s totally distracting. Why, LG!?!
I always wonder when watching Brian's videos if he's in the heavyweight division? I really hope he'll tell me one of these days.
I am 😁
Buyer Beware !! I received my 83” G4 this week. Picture is great but there is a widespread issue with the HDMI2 input earc. This input does not work properly. No sound or picture. I’ve read online that LG is aware of the problem . Has any one else heard or experienced this issue?
Are you having this issue yourself?
Yes sir. Please search lg g4 hdmi2 issue the avs forum. Several folks are having the same issue as me.
Yes sir .
@@JoeD-d4d you can't use e arc at all?
The most success I’ve had is very blurry picture and crackling audio after resetting. I’ve bypassed completely 4K video player to HDM1 (no issues)
The silver bezel definitely does not disappear, it's completely dreadful... Just looks cheap and tacky..
Actually, quite the opposite in person
When is bravia 7 going up?
I want to het a 65 inch what is the best to go with LG G4 or A95L i do gaming and tv watching 60/40 more tv watching nowadays which os the best to get? You guys always only talk about the largest tvs
