Hi. Very interested in what you say about then Q990D soundbar. I'm definitely a G4 man - planning to buy a G4 65" next week. I really like the sound of Samsung sound bars though and find the LG ones disappointing. Can you get full Dolby Atmos through the Q990D from your G4? Anything else to think about?
I would pick G4. But I own the S95D as My bright room benefit the matte display. It helps me watch good content in bright room. Also it’s crazy Samsung let you calibrate the tv yourself. I saved $200 by not getting it calibrated by the store
I picked up the S95D specifically because of our bright room. Reflections during the day were a massive problem with our old flat panel, the anti-glare surface has totally eliminated the issue.
I am trying to decide between these 2 TVs. I prefer the G4, but it is for a very bright room. It’s amazing how the light source disappears completely on the Samsung, but it’s then replaced by a huge hazy area. Not sure which I’d prefer, haven’t found the two in stores to compare.
Reflections don't only annoy -- they negatively affect your visual cortex and put extra strain on your brain. You will feel less fatigued after using a tv with matte finish.
@hybrid11theory75 Which is why I went lg with a C2 2yrs ago and upgraded to the g3 last year. I was seeing it samsung had learnt yet... apparently not.
Both are at the top level of OLED tvs. I actually own two OLED LGs (55" 2017 version and a 65" G2) and i'm fully satisfied with so far. But due to the OLED quite fragile pixel duration, the 5 year warranty on the LG G4 make it a major killer in front of Samsung. If Samsung offered the same warranty covering, i would go with it but for now i'm still a LG fan and will get a G4 77" tomorrow at black friday...
@@DenisBoudreault111 for $168 CAD you can add another year warranty from Samsung and if you use a premium credit card for the purchase it doubles the original warranty that goes into effect after any extensions end. If there’s going to be an issue with a TV it’s going to materialize before 3 years, if not the first year, so buy the tv you like and don’t be swayed by manufacturers warranty. I just bought an S95D 77” from a local store that stopped selling LG a few years ago because they were so hard to deal with when there was an issue. He said if the only TV on the market was LG, he’d stop selling TVs.
Has to be the G4, will be looking to get a 65" (upgrade from my 65" CX that I have had for almost 4 years) in the next few weeks - just hoping that the price drops below £2k as it is just a little over that on Amazon (£2,030) currently.
Thank you for translating this video into French. Very interesting video on a screen comparison just at the top. I always hesitate and I don’t know which one to take. Maybe the LG for me because they do it in more than 77’.
I have a 2016 lg tv and arriving in about 3 weeks time i will get g4. Is normal tv Freeview channels like drama, dave etc have better picture? Im guessing this ai chip thing has got involved in getting sd content upgraded?
Because the LG doesnt have that weird coating you will enjoy the deep oled blacks. I use a QD oled gaming monitor and the reflective screens does aid in improved contrast.
Both are great TVs but my monies on the S90D a similar picture to the S95D but a lot less to pay out, they change every year so buy the lower tear until perfect then upgrade
S95D is better cause it has far superior anti-glare coating. For me this is key, cause most of us do have bright rooms. The best and sharpest TV is useless if you can see your white socks as a reflection while watching Alien or Batman.
QOLED looks like it has durability issues if Rtings is anything to go by. The lack of a white sub pixel means numerous colours need to be used to create white, and this may be what is leading to premature aging with the sets that have failed.
HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. I like HDR10+ as well and have used it a lot with Amazon Prime Video for The Expanse and other content, but the fact is there is way more content available that supports DV.
That's not true, according to RTINGS, the G4 is brighter than the S95D for movies and gaming. The S95D can only maintain its peak brightness for a short time. But the G4 always does so thanks to its cooling system, which you forgot to mention.
@@JoeBlackDreamer Many tests say something different, the LG G4 can maintain peak brightness better than the Samsung S95D simply because of the cooling system and the MLA. That's a technical fact. And the Sony may be a bit better. But at what price and the fact that the Sony A95L only has 2 HDMI 2.1 ports in 2024 and the eARC port is on the second HDMI port is a deal breaker for me. The Sony also doesn't have Dolby Vision IQ. And no, I'm not an LG fan, but LG simply has the better price-performance ratio.
@JustAnObserver-tw4ib I am referring to color luminance, to the best gradients on top of the range Sony and Samsung, not to the maximum peak to be maintained for several seconds or minutes; and the data measured with the calorimeter are not disputed; Rtings gives higher marks and as references of luminance and color gradients to Samsung and Sony. The maximum brightness peaks are never the reference when the software reduces ABL and the TV is under calibration.
@@JoeBlackDreamer I also couldn't find any reason why Rtings gives Sony or Samsung more points than the LG G4. But it could well be that they are better in that respect. But you will agree with me that the LG G4 simply offers more features than Sony and Samsung. Sony has no Dolby Vision IQ, no Dolby Vision 120Hz and only 2x HDMI 2.1. The Samsung only has 40 Gbps via the HDMI 2.1 connections, the LG has 48 Gbps. You know yourself that the Samsung doesn't have Dolby Vision at all. There are more, but I think you get what I'm getting at. I just buy what offers me the most for the money and not what name it has on it.
@JustAnObserver-tw4ib I've never used DV at 120Hz.. it increases latency both in gaming and with audio systems and the general quality is never night and day. They are specifications that form a package but are never an exploitation of real 12-bit usability. Video contents, especially streaming ones, are highly compressed. In gaming the reference is HGIG not Dolby Vision, because games are post-produced and sometimes even badly. Sony PS5 Pro does not support Dolby Vision with good reason, but it has the best HDR titles on consoles, such as GT7 with its visuals. I could give other examples of the fact that Dolby Vision, as it is exploited, is unjustifiably overvalued.
Most people have bright rooms, Samsung is the winner here for sure. Non-Glare tech is superior and if someone can't see or doesnt care about the sharp reflections on a glossy TV during summer for example, then he doesnt know what he is talking about (or has mounted his TV in a cellar)
I have G4 with window facing it. Glare is very distracting. Got a s95d for my mom. She has way more windows, skylights, etc. Looks really good even with all that light. Bright room, s95D hands down. Dark room, I personally like the g4 better but they're still sort of a toss up
Can't wait to get my s95d tomorrow seeing these comment. I have a bay window on the left and another facing the tv area so for sure went with anti glare.
MLA available in the 83" you say. Sorry for not paying attention, but does that mean for that size only, or that it's a first for the 83" and other sizes allready had it allready?
I guess the S95D is more scratch and dust resistant because of the matte glare, and that is also a big advantage in my opinion. We all know what happened with glass TVs over two years.
I picked up the S95d partially because Samsung has one of the best sound bars on the market and I wanted the Q symphony experience. I was heavily leaning towards the LG G3 before.
We have a cheaper Samsung, but the sound bar experience is real and amazing a Samsung TV paired with one of their sound bars is really good. By the way Wal-Mart has a Black Friday deal on the Samsung Q6CC for $199 so getting Dolby Atmos for that price is a good deal right now. I was about to buy a JBL unit, but was told if its a Samsung TV go with the Samsung sound bar and I am glad we did plus it works with the TV's remote so only having one remote rocks.
How's the Q symphony? I'm undecided which tv I will get, the S95D or G4. But I'm going to buy one of Samsung's best soundbar systems too, so that might affect my decicion.
Im really torn between the two...I really want to love LG but for me picture looks better on S95D. I already own Samsung Qled N90B on which I really love the picture but dont like how it handles motion in movies, for gaming its great. LG here wins on motion while I cant stand that dimm/dark picture in darker scenes and overall. If I buy Samsung S95D on the other hand will I again experience that non-smooth movie experience? Should I go for cheaper model S90D for around 1100 Euros? 55 inch LG G4 is currently 1500 Euros.
it makes no sense to compare in strees test and light pointed on the screen; it is never a normal use of the TV. for a brightly lit room, however, anti glare only gives advantages when the background with black pixels reflects the entire room on the G4... just look at the comparison.
Do LGs still have the super annoying tendency to drop out of whatever you're watching to an hdmi input? It's driving me crazy, and the main reason I'm looking at a new tv. My current is the CXPUA77 from 2020.
I would pick the G4, I just can’t convince myself that I won’t miss DV every time I launch a Netflix video. I remember once buying the movie “Joker” on the Apple TV Store just because the streaming service only had the HDR version and at that time the difference was huge ! TBH, my top pick would me the Sony 77A95L but at 5000€ it costs almost 2000€ more than the LG 77G4…
Stop the Mofo tested this on his channel and there was zero difference when streaming Netflix with DV or HDR10. Movies on a blue ray could be different.
I was leaning toward the G4, but I also had a great experience with an older Samsung. Having said that, your video has helped me with my decision and that is the G4. Looking for Sound and natural colors - we aren't game players at aged 60, but if I was a true gamer, then I would take on the Samsung. Another point, we probably will never install a sound bar and I believe the main reason for choosing the G4 is the same reason why I purchased a high end Samsung around 2008 - Sound was everything, then picture. Same reason why we purchased a genesis g80, it came down to the sound system. (older folks don't like clutter). Thanks for the video and it would be nice one day to breakdown your video for Gamers and non-gamers, it might help your comparisons from becoming to broad.
Both awesome Tvs. I will never buy a Samsung product that uses Tizen or a break out box after my experiences. I had to tell Samsung what i ate for lunch in the 3rd grade for a firmware update. Would have bought the S95D if not for that. Went with the G4 this week.
99% of the people will be happy with each of the two televisions. I personally choose s95d because my TV is next to big window and LG doesn't offer a shelf stand for 77" model.
I was looking to replace a 34" PC screen (3440 x 1440) and I decided to use an LG OLED TV from the C or G series! I was thinking of buying the C4 in 55" (Because I know that the 42" and 48" versions have less brightness). It's for PC + Gaming use! After a long price follow-up on different websites I just bought the 55" G3 on the FNAC website in France for €1056...That is to say at the same price that I would have had the C4!!! I do not regret my choice although I lose some improvements that the 2024 version of the C4 offers on the G3. In France the 55" version of the S95D is prohibitively expensive...And the 55" version of the S90D is not QLED but WOLED. So my choice was obvious.
They're both great in their own way. I like that the Samsung has a matte finish to reduce all that glare. And I find it's color accuracy and a lot of ways to be very very accurate. I own the G4 and probably the best TV I've ever owned. I've owned almost every flagship Sony since 2016 including the A95L. The brightness in vividness of the colors and saturation on the A95L are really great but the motherboard started to die within 2 months and I just had it with Sony at this point. I wasn't always a gamer but I went out and bought an Xbox series X just to see what the big deal about this TV was with gaming and the G4 holy crap If you occasionally play video games I recommend getting and Xbox series X or PlayStation 5 just to take advantage of what it offers because wow mind blown I didn't realize these games could look and play as good as they do on the G4. If you're not gaming on your G4 you're not using half the TV's capabilities I have to tell you. Anyway you can't go wrong with either one of these TVs
Something is wrong with this video. The LG G4 very often outbrightens the S95D in HDR mode (non-gaming). Ive seen many comparisons from many content creators. Not in a single scene is it brighter in your comparison. And so you either put them in unfair picture modes (standard, vivid, film etc.) which you also failed to disclose. Where the S95D outperforms in general is in colorful images where the color brightness is greater. And in SDR game mode where the brightness is quite a lot brighter. But in general the LG G4 is as bright if not brighter in HDR video content, so you failed to actually make a useful comparison somehow

Overall..It is not the best for movies..it came last in that part of the test.. personally I couldn't care less about gaming which is where it made up gtround
I also think there’s a lot of LG paid reviewers like HDTV himself. It’s easy spotting the matte screen and process of elimination the other great picture would be Sony. Bias.
Also gaming being almost 5x the size of movies now should be included. Vast majority of people that buy an oled are gaming.
LG G4 without any doubt. No matte finish panel is an auto win instantly in my book. And that one connect box is a gamer nightmare.
Why is the connect box an issue for gaming ?
@martiangod Connectivity issues. Imagine while gaming, you lost your connection and the screen goes black. Nah not during my online fps games
@@SDGRTX1455 is this a common fault with the lead that goes from box to tv or something ?
Why would the hdmi have connection issues, once its in its not going to fall out
@@SDGRTX1455there is no connection issues on the s95d there hasn’t been a single report on it. It was the s95c with the dropout problem. That issue has since been fixed
One connect box is the achilles heel
G4 if you like high contrast and inky blacks, and s95d if you like color vibrancy
I have G4 65 inch and very happy due to accurate colours as well as impressive brightness. It actually pairs very well with my Samsung Q990D Soundbar system 😊
Also curious to hear your thoughts on the Samsung Q990D sound bar
I would pick G4. But I own the S95D as My bright room benefit the matte display. It helps me watch good content in bright room. Also it’s crazy Samsung let you calibrate the tv yourself. I saved $200 by not getting it calibrated by the store
I picked up the S95D specifically because of our bright room. Reflections during the day were a massive problem with our old flat panel, the anti-glare surface has totally eliminated the issue.
@ it’s awesome, only negative is the missing Dolby Vision and that you have to unplug the tv or uninstall an app if it doesn’t work properly
Bought G4 a couple of days ago. I sold my Samsung Q80A and I'm excited to receive G4 next wednesday 4 (december).
How are the dark scenes when gaming, is it true that you miss a lot of details in dark areas?
Just bought last week S95d 77". Amazing Tv.For gaming my opinion is better then the LG G4.
s95D for console gaming, G4 for pc connectivity (less issues)
and G4 for movie and tv watching (better motion and processing)
I am trying to decide between these 2 TVs. I prefer the G4, but it is for a very bright room. It’s amazing how the light source disappears completely on the Samsung, but it’s then replaced by a huge hazy area. Not sure which I’d prefer, haven’t found the two in stores to compare.
I finally chose the S95D... living in Barcelona and having a window really close to the TV made me go for it :)
The S95D loses contrast and much of the picture quality because of it's coating (in a bright room). HDTVtest has shown that very well in the review.
@mrclamg better than seeing nothing but reflections all over a "better" picture!😊
LG has better warranty. If you like fine details and motion, go LG, If you like color go Samsung.
You got the qd oled and MLA oled mixed up on the video in the first 10 seconds. G4 has the MLA oled
Got the 77 inch S95D. It’s a game changer especially playing games in 4k
My Top 5 this year is.
1. LG G4
2. Panasonic Z95A
3. Sony A95L
4. LG G3
5. Samsung S95D
Thx for explaining that G4 ref ending with S has the standing mount and the one finishing by W has the wall mount !
Reflections don't only annoy -- they negatively affect your visual cortex and put extra strain on your brain. You will feel less fatigued after using a tv with matte finish.
S95D 4ever
Great review. I didn't really need any pushing, but it's good to hear the LG wins out for enthusiasts. I'm ordering a 65" G4 next week :-)
G4 ❤ All the way, best tv I've owned
Really interested in the G4 this season….lack of Dolby Vision from Samsung is a difficult compromise in my opinion!
Have samsung added back in DTS passthrough support? If not, it's lg all the way.
@@jb7753 NO Dolby Vision and DTS is a dealbreaker for the Samsung...
@hybrid11theory75 Which is why I went lg with a C2 2yrs ago and upgraded to the g3 last year. I was seeing it samsung had learnt yet... apparently not.
@ Is the brightness a significant upgrade in the G3 compared to your previous TV 👍 ?
@@Aoelxi own c2 and g3. Yes the brightness difference is pretty massive. And thats to a point that even colors are better on it
a small curve adjustment on brightning the highlights can easily brighten up g4 near samsung.
Great comparison, what would be best oled to watch your video on RUclips 4k/1080 on PC ?
Has to be the G4, will be looking to get a 65" (upgrade from my 65" CX that I have had for almost 4 years) in the next few weeks - just hoping that the price drops below £2k as it is just a little over that on Amazon (£2,030) currently.
I definitely would prefer the LG G4 Technology for the Television 📺 Panels products for sure 😀!
İ got really have questions about how these tv's performance when we come to using them as a pc monitor.
What modes were you comparing?
The matt coating of the S95D is terrible... Many reviewers are avoiding this topic.
So g4 or bravia 8 or save money and get s90d ? Which one
Both are great TVs but my monies on the S90D a similar picture to the S95D but a lot less to pay out, they change every year so buy the lower tear until perfect then upgrade
I see both in person the s95D is better
S95D is better cause it has far superior anti-glare coating. For me this is key, cause most of us do have bright rooms. The best and sharpest TV is useless if you can see your white socks as a reflection while watching Alien or Batman.
QOLED looks like it has durability issues if Rtings is anything to go by. The lack of a white sub pixel means numerous colours need to be used to create white, and this may be what is leading to premature aging with the sets that have failed.
A big reason to pick one of these two is the flush wall mount, to suggest S90D ignores that significant feature
S90D in Europe is WOLED in most sizes
I think the G4 only supports HDR10, not HDR10+
Correct
It has Dolby vision though.
@@cuzr702 Also correct
HDR 10 and Dolby Vision.
I like HDR10+ as well and have used it a lot with Amazon Prime Video for The Expanse and other content, but the fact is there is way more content available that supports DV.
That's not true, according to RTINGS, the G4 is brighter than the S95D for movies and gaming. The S95D can only maintain its peak brightness for a short time. But the G4 always does so thanks to its cooling system, which you forgot to mention.
S95D(and Sony A95L) is better for color luminance and gradient.
Peak brigthness are only theory processed by software.
Im looking at swapping teh s95c for the s95d i just feel like i might be disappointed with the matt finish
You have no clue what you are talking about.
Most people go to work and come home at night to game or watch a bit of tv plus the reflections ain’t that bad especially in the newer lgs
Most people have curtains.
The Samsung S95D has a significant advantage over the LG G4 due to cable connectivity (One Connect Box) and the matte panel.
Great informative video, you’ve got yourself a new subscriber🎉 what’s your views on the C4 Vs S93D here in the uk?
waoooo magnificent explanation and decision, thank you very much and I personally choose the G4
I don’t really understand all the glossy display nerds complaining about the s95d when they have the s90d 😂
can you please compare Sony B8 vs G4 vs S90D, Sony B9 vs LG C4 vs Q95D, Sony B7 vs LG B4 vs Q90D
What about firmware updates that downgrade the performance ?
G4 👍
Im really torn between the two...I really want to love LG but for me picture looks better on S95D. I already own Samsung Qled N90B on which I really love the picture but dont like how it handles motion in movies, for gaming its great. LG here wins on motion while I cant stand that dimm/dark picture in darker scenes and overall. If I buy Samsung S95D on the other hand will I again experience that non-smooth movie experience? Should I go for cheaper model S90D for around 1100 Euros? 55 inch LG G4 is currently 1500 Euros.
Doesn’t the S95D’s anti-glare screen just negate the main benefit of OLED? I.e. Ruining the perfect black contrast?
Exactly...
with bright light.. nite time viewing is same
it makes no sense to compare in strees test and light pointed on the screen; it is never a normal use of the TV.
for a brightly lit room, however, anti glare only gives advantages when the background with black pixels reflects the entire room on the G4... just look at the comparison.
Anybody pricing horizontal flickering line of their G4 when playing using Apple TV
Try a different cable..
Do LGs still have the super annoying tendency to drop out of whatever you're watching to an hdmi input? It's driving me crazy, and the main reason I'm looking at a new tv. My current is the CXPUA77 from 2020.
I got the G4 55 inch happy with it nice picture and sharper.
Amigo, a Tela da G3 é fosca tambem???
Je mise sur le Z95A qui est excellentissime
What about burning in?
That S95 killed it ‼️‼️‼️💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
I would pick the G4, I just can’t convince myself that I won’t miss DV every time I launch a Netflix video.
I have huge windows with a ton of natural light coming into the living room so i had to go for the anti glare with the S95D
S95D 🎉🎉
I wish LG could match the color depth and Rec2020 coverage that QD-OLED has. Samsung’s subpar processing and tone mapping are still deal breakers.
A calibrated S95D all the way
99% of the people will be happy with each of the two televisions. I personally choose s95d because my TV is next to big window and LG doesn't offer a shelf stand for 77" model.
Where is the Bravia 8?
Coming soon 👀
Easy choice, the LG G4 !!!
G4 !
It's the LG G4 all the way.
what the best?
Looking forward to the G5!
You and me both!
G4 with...anti glare screen protector?
HDTV said S95D is the best home theatre TV im going with that ^^
The S90D is the best.
For me, the S95D was the standout as the colors for gaming is heads and shoulders.
G4 edges out in other areas, but the S95D was it for me and i bought it half a year ago.
10:36 this scene bothers me the most about the S95D (besides the matte). The G4 looks much better. If people don't look real what's the point of all the QD color capability? I'm over 2024 TVs, I feel like there are constant compromises to even the best ones. Bring on 2025 for the LG G5 and S90E.
