I like James Hype's mixing skills more so than his song selection as I simply dislike bigroom EDM music. But that's just me. But I do like this break-down video of mixing techniques. More please Carlo!
DJ CARLO, I am a professional DJ myself but I have learned a lot of stuff following your channel. You are one of the best, thank you for everything. I look forward to grow with you.
Thank you DJ Carlo, your tutorials have gotten even better! I can do other things while listening to your videos and still learn new techniques. We don't have to focus our full attention on reading the overlayed text. Thank you 😊. I love your work and your skills 👍👊✌
These are amazing tricks! Will definitely practice these moves. Please do more tutorials, been watching a lot of your videos to add variations to my mix. Thank you for the clear explanations 🤩
James is a great DJ no doubt but after hearing the 'loop tightening+fader cuts' more than a couple of times in a mix i wanna unplug His CDJs, same goes for the endless 'Noise Effect+cutting' shenanigans xD It gets so old so quick, much prefer hearing a little scratching with Vocals or Vocal loops ect.
i think it can be done once during a set, more than that will be annoying. it does seem cool and am excited to learn it! thank you for the great tutorial as usual
i have to agree its a nice trick to have up your sleeve but once in a set is enough.Unfortunatly their is a new wave of djs who are talented but seem to do this trick over and over again
@@LeeJaaijMusicTV Dude is hella talented no question what so ever and he deserves all the success that goes with it, he has 4 decks playing a hell of a lot of the time which is hell a hard so he got the skills for Days. I remember hearing James speaking about starting as an open format DJ with Serato and Turntables and he says he was pretty awesome at but moves to CDJs as he wanted to be known as a House DJ/producer and that was the format that was accepted for clubs ect. So dude obviously got those creative vocal loop scratches/cuts/drops down for sure, they sound so much better than endless Noise+Fader Cuts ect. My 2 cents. Who am i to critique anyway, he obviously killin it doing what he is doing so.
People that know already know you were doing these effects and scratching before James Hype. I love James Hype but just acknowledging your world class skills as well 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Loved the video!! So great to add these techniques to our toolboxes. Timmy Trumpet next? (even if I expect he does a lot of off-stage preps for his sets).
I'd really like to see your take on scratching using some faster tempo genres like Bad Boy Bill. He's the only DJ i've ever heard that scratches while playing house or electro. Thanks Carlo, stay blessed.
Love your videos. Been listening to mixes since I was 10, almost 40 and ready to jump in. Thanks for all the vids. You have convinced me to try something I love. Any suggestions on which software to start with?
Same here, Ricky! I'm 41 and I just bought my first mixer, the DDJ-400! I stumbled upon DJ Carlo a month ago and it only took 4-5 videos before I finally realized that I wanted to do it, I could afford to, and so I did! I told my wife it's my mix-life crisis! Big thank you to DJ Carlo. I'm watching all your videos now, brother. Not looking to play clubs. I just want to make mixes and maybe stream in the future. God bless you.
Awesome breakdown - takes a lot of prep though - I usually go in fully unprepared but most of the amazing techniques actually require prep. I guess I should start prepping some 😅 ⭐️
Same, used to always just wing it. This past week I’ve gone through hundreds of songs just tagging them and setting up memory cues and honestly it’s definitely worth it. The prep just sucks so much 💀
Great video! A suggestion for your next video maybe examples on how to use 3 decks effectively with a controller that only has 2 jog wheels (would have to use layer). (star emoji)
Watched this video again this AM. While the visual cue points are VERY useful, if I go away from a song for a while and come back to it, I often forget what I originally set the cue points for. A helpful tip that I picked up along they way (maybe from you) is to go into your DJ software and name the cue point by the action I need to take at that cue point. For example, "Cue point A" becomes "Play Next" and/or "Cue point B" might be "1 beat loop", etc, etc. The notes you can add for the cue points are limitless.
@dj Carlo Atendido I've learned alot from you. Actually I've problem become more patient over all as I practice and learn how to dj. thank you for your content. At the end of your video you you used an actual channel for the noise effect. Why? As apposed to using the effects channel on the board? Did I miss what your actually trying to do? Lol. Thanks
Oh man, thank you! This was exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much again for helping us all out on our DJ journeys, I appreciate it so much! One question, what's the main benefit of using the in/out loop buttons at the top instead of the beat loop button/pads at the bottom? So that the bottom section is focused on hot cues?
Yup! Makes for dedicated spaces on the controller instead of constantly switching functions. Imagine forgetting the switch functions mid routine! Your whole set's gonna be out the window!
One thing you did not mention Carlo is that James Hype does adjust the fader curve on the mixer so his faders are sharper, which helps a ton with the cuts. This might not apply to software based djing I don't know, but it was worth noting.
All these setting are much easier to input on Denon controllers. I’ve never used recordbox but I’m hoping to learn soon from other friends who have. Good video!
Techniques are great, and well executed. Only big problem is that's it's super mega overused. After the 3rd one in a mix it's just getting old, boring and actually disturbing, I wanna listen to the music first and foremost. So it's just cheesy and cheap in the end, like everything what's overused in life. Too bad since he is talented for sure, even tho I don't like this pop edm music
Nice Pretty good stuff I'll be giving a try I use a Traktor Kontrol S5 and a pair of F1s so I don't have jogwheels (There is a touch strip that serves the same purpose) and the settings might be abit different in Traktor but will give these techniques a go
You should be on the same circuit as skrillex marshmello and james hype etc etc etc.... if you are not...that is nonsense... i dont wanna pay 400 dollars to watch skrillex stand on a table and push buttons and freeze his computer out... you do what skrillex does but also crazy scratch techniques and your song choices are always so primetime!!! Im sure you're doing well but you are a superstar!!! Without a doubt.
His djing skills are so good 🔥🔥👌 I think when that idea of doing these amazing tricks strikes his mind that it would hype (james hype) the crowd. 😆 Just amazing and phenomenal 🔥🔥🔥🔥👌👌
I have the Hercules inpulse 300 and I do James hype style routines like this every day. The volume faders and cue buttons are still like new after 5 months of hard abuse from the fast loop cutting and cue drumming songs. It will stand up to the abuse when as you progress. As a beginner though it has a “beat match guide” which really helped me to learn the basics. For a beginner or intermediate DJ you can’t go wrong with it!
learning new things everyday! does look simple, when one practices. Thanks Carlo! By the way, still waiting at that program you mentioned that splits the acapellas and instrumentals.
When the loop gets tightened using the platter, is it still tightening by 1/2x? The denon prime go doesn't have the ability to tighten the loop using the platter but it can tighten further by 1/2x. I was curious if the effect was the same using the platter vs the loop tighten button and if it's just personal preference?
Pretty much yes! From, let's say, 1 beat. Tightening it goes 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 etc so half of the previous one. But I don't think the Prime Go has that unfortunately
Can't you just use the Vinyl Break Release Pad FX? 3/4 beat perhaps? It feels easier cause you can just let go of the button to stop the brake. It gets annoying trying to pause at a specific point only to realize I changed the setting of it just for this effect.

hey carlo! im a big fan, thank you for all the great content! i just have one question, when i trigger my acapella after i beat sync the two tracks it playes alot slower and unmatched to the edm track... what should i do? Thanks!
Shalom my man! Thanks for being a fan, really appreciate that! With your acapella, there's a chance that the program might've made a mistake in mapping the beat grid. Try manually adjusting the acapella to the 4 on the floor beat of the EDM track, and edit the BPM from there!

hey carlo! im a big fan, thank you for all the great content!
i just have one question, when i trigger my acapella after i beat sync the two tracks it playes alot slower and unmatched to the edm track... what should i do?
Thanks!
Shalom my man! Thanks for being a fan, really appreciate that!
With your acapella, there's a chance that the program might've made a mistake in mapping the beat grid. Try manually adjusting the acapella to the 4 on the floor beat of the EDM track, and edit the BPM from there!
