He helped write the song. He said they were sitting around thinking what people thought rich people did and they decided to write the opposite of fancy. Love it. Let's go to Applebee's.
He has an amazing voice with unbelievable range. The comment about what’s in the cooler in the truck bed is something from their hometown in Alabama. When they were writing the song he didn’t know that not all of us southerners knew what that was. He is absolutely in love with her and she with him. They have six kids together and a seventh that is one of Gods littlest angels. Deserves every happiness in the world.
Never in my life would I thought that I would be addicted to a song like this!! I have always been a classic country fan which I still am but I can't stop listening to this song!
This song shot straight to #1 because so many people relate to it - it’s about how fancy they are (not). People love it. And that’s why he wrote it. It’s called entertainment.
It's a great feel good song and the world needs more of that.... everyone I know has a big smile 😀 on their face when they listen to this song.. 👍👏😀on my way to Applebee's !
I heard him in an interview -- he said he wanted to do a song about what was fancy, and another songwriter showed up on the wrong day to collaborate/write with someone else, so jumped in on writing this song, and ended up like this. Collaborations in music styles and writing are great.
Its so relatable. This song does a great job exposing people to crossover county. People catch this, like it, and explore other artists. Purists hate it but haters gonna hate anyway.
Didn't hurt that Applebee's made a commercial featuring the song and the Tok Tok dance and then bought almost every slot on every channel they possibly could. Fun song, good for Walker. His first #1 hit.
Very true 👍!!.. ......but again!!...WHAT CAN WE EXPECT!??.... ITS CALLED GOING ALONG to get along.....🤷... It's actually nowadays, what's right is wrong and what's wrong is right livin
I’ve been addicted to this song lately.. never thought I would but I would definitely check out Cody Johnson, Randall King & Jon Wolfe. Newer “real country”.
You should check out his other songs, too. All of the songs are solely his with stories behind them all. Quite funny lyrics and entertaining with a good beat. We've been following him since 2015 and have been to 2 of his concerts: The Blindhorse in Greenville, SC and another in Charlotte, NC. I'm proud of him....he's been through a lot.
It's not appropriation, it's appreciation. The white youth generation that grew up when hip hop hit the radios now have kids hitting adulthood. So it's really the first group that didn't get shit from their parents for listening to it. I listen to hip hop, r&b, blues, disco, metal, rock, country... it's a beautiful age for music with the internet. No longer limited by money and choices. Exploring youtube for free beats paying $25 for only 1 cd or listening to radio stations based around a single genre.
that's probably because it isn't really Country as now Country is evolved and the original country vibe is sorta gone and is now mixed with either a Hip Hop feel or Pop feel to it
I really liked this song. And I went back to hear some more of his old stuff it has the same vibe to them. I believe it our age & what music we grew up to it's not really "race appropriation." USA is a melting pot of different cultures.
Not everything is related to a bar. This is down home bluegrass roots with hip-hop country beat. It hits all the notes through most of the genres and funny enough - REAL People relate to the words.
It's called "crossover" country. The artists that do this, do it to show that the stereotype isn't all that anymore. They wanna appeal across lines. I dig it and I've never been a crossover fan. However starting to like it cuz its catchy and makes you wanna move.
@@LostInTranslationLIT Applebee's uses this song in a promotion add and they brought back the Oreo shake because of this song. There is currently a tiktok dance craze with the chorus part of the song. Go check it out.
It’s ok if you don’t get it. You’re not country. Don’t have a have a video that costs a lot of money to make either. Just goes to show you he’s not fancy like some of these singers with gold chains and diamonds. He’s not being fake and I think showing who he really is with the song, the video and the dance that he started with his daughter. He’s a man of faith too. Love it. He’s got other songs I like and they are meaningful, some catchy (not like fancy like) but also not fake BS.
he writes alot of his own music. he's a really well known writer in Nashville. listen to Craig by walker hayes. it's about him and how Craig helped him out.
I watched him talk about the song...he said he and his wife go to Applebee's for date nights. They have done it a long time. He said he always wanted to write a song a about Applebee's. He and 2 others wrote the song.
Id say write is an overstatement. There isn't much writing that happened to make this song. Its a few basic chords with half the menu of Applebee's rapped over it lol
It's about people who are satisfied being "normal", more moderate living people. Who look at going out to eat ANYWHERE as a treat/luxury/special. I don't think many people in "cultures" or worlds where they are all about fake fingernails and butt injections can really relate to that type of person except to laugh at them so...
People keep leaving comments like i dont know what hes talking about...do I come off like I'm oblivious to the premise? Of course thats what hes doing...its obvious. I even make a reference to the term "Ghetto Fabulous" that's exactly the same thing in a different culture...Im also saying its awesome and catchy and he used hip hop influence to cross over and make it even more danceable for non country people. Is it that you are not watching the whole video? Im confused lol
@@LostInTranslationLIT also I’m not usually a fan of country but I love this song, and honestly who doesn’t sample from solid tracks that have been successful ?? It’s 95% of hip hop right now …everything is a sample of someone else’s hit
Just cuz they label it 'country' doesn't mean these young artists can do their own version of that. True artists should not be contained in a little box. Think about the great artists & the many sides they can show. You need to open your mind & check out some more country, with no expectations. Luke Combs & Jason Aldean are good examples of today's country. Today's country is not just 'Waylon Jennings & Johnny Cash' style these days. Walker said when he wrote this one, he thought about what rich folks did, & wrote the opposite. (he was talking about a double wide trailer home). Also check out Toby Keith! He has tons of hits, with great videos.
I think when they do the reactions they should make sure he’s hearing the lyrics right. It’s not spoil my batty with an upgrade it’s baby with an upgrade.
Isn't "imitation the sincerist form of flattery". Yes, they are "hip hop words", I believe it is called a crossover song. I'm not sure why "culture appropriation" had to be brought into this. Kind of like white people wearing hoop earrings? His intentions was not to appropriate a culture, but just to make a song that people enjoy. Why does race have to be brought into everything?
Im not sure why people keep saying that lol Of course i get it ....Its funny to me not over my head... Its not rocket science of course its a play on words...Sorta like the country version of ghetto fabulous. Sometimes you guys that are watching arent too observant lol
He’s sort of talking about his wife in a playful way. They met in high school and obviously as an aspiring artist he couldn’t afford much and it didn’t bother her.
Yes Im aware of that. I used to sell them ...they are also called manufactured homes...or trailers lol Im not sure where it came off like I didn't know that but thank you for watching!
Of course he is...And Black people invented country and the blues both so You couldn't say a black guy was Appropriating. I just don't think its a bad thing...Country folk can use some soul. Only makes the music better!
So its appropriation and taking from a hip hop culture, the culture that can't make anything for themselves so they take from other genres and call it "sampling ".lol they even took the bass because everybody knows hiphop invented bass.thats funny.
Im sure you can tell an obvious difference in the type of synth used to create the bass used in Hip Hop music and a regular bass guitar used on traditional country music....Lets not play dumb now. :)
