    Sadly many drs gas light you when you try to explain a issue your experiencing & its exhausting. I recently had THR after numerous yrs of severe hip pain & there has been marked improvement yet thigh muscle is very week after yrs of limping . The pa saw me after & said " wait a few months then we ll consider sending you to a physical therapist " . My concern is that I will continue to favor one side as I did prior to surgery & almost 5wks post surgery I aggravated the surgery leg 2x causing thigh & buttock pain . I feel since surgery the dr has passed me off to nurse or pa who by no fault of their own are too overworked to listen, not sure what to do from this point, I know how weak my muscles are & just walking is not enough & that's the only instruction I was given ,no precautions on movement only " don't put leg / hip in odd position " & fear i will aggravate it again because 2 small separate moves caused extreme pain ( side step & lifting it slightly to side to elevate ) both movements the pain left me breathless & crying . Apologies for rambling yet after yrs of suffering & difficult recovery I want to do everything I can to heal correctly & get back to living .

      Hope you're doing better. I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-op and getting the physical therapy that all patients at this particular medical center get. It's amazing. I don't know the financial or insurance circumstances you have but if there is any way possible to get PT, I recommend it. Every session loosens the muscles and helps restore function. If you can't get it in person, there are lots of videos on you tube and they can help. Start with the week 1 ones if you have to, even though you're months out. It'll take effort, but don't overdo. One therapist told me there's no long term benefit to painful rehab. My leg after a session feels like a challenging gym workout.
      Anyway, best - just thought I'd share a bit if it can help.

      @@disqusrubbish5467I appreciate your response to that other person. I’m 7 1/2 wks post op from a revision. In March I’d had my THR. It went great. 7 wks into healing, it dislocated out of the Blue as I just stood. I immediately fell to the ground, fracturing my spine. After the ambulance, hospital, E/R, then O/R re-set it, my surgeon had the hospital take scans, x-rays as they’d called him. After reviewing them, he was dumbfounded not finding any just cause?? Everything looked perfect? He told me to keep doing my thing. 4 days later boom. On the ground again in our bedroom, home alone. I yelled to my phone ‘hey SIRI, call so and so!’ My kids, husband and ambulance all showed up. Re-setting it snd calling my surgeon again. He had them send me directly to his own hospital. His partner found the problem. The ball and socket weren’t at the right angle for my stance. It would continue to catapult out if left in me. He admitted to my family he’d made a mistake. He’s a wonderful surgeon, highly regarded, and did my knee in 2018 which is great. I absolutely forgave him, we’re all human after all and he did a revision in May. I went from an anterior with 10 sutures originally with the first surgery to anterior/lateral with 22 staples, a new ball/socket. It has been the road from hell to recover from and I hadn’t even recovered yet to begin with. I’m a strong girl and stubborn. Don’t like to be down, so I push through until I can’t anymore. I’m 7 1/2 wks post-op, in a lot of pain still, thigh, butt, spine, PTSD, anxiety, insomnia,…my Dr actually just put me on 4 various meds to handle it all. It’s helping some. My surgeon, who’s still apologizing said I won’t probably turn the corner until the end of July. I’m praying he’s right🙏!!!!! I’m getting so discouraged. I accidentally rolled onto that side the other night in my sleep and woke screaming. The pain was awful and still is so it’s not healed inside still clearly. Ugh……….so considering all of this trauma in such a short span March-May, I guess I should still be hurting???

    My question is... was that doctor brought up to the medical board for malpractice? Did the woman have to pay out of pocket for the proper surgery? And was she compensated for the misery she went through for the past couple of years? No, I'm not a lawyer looking for a payday.

    Here is another true story; total hip replacement in mid-2022. Walking same day. Surgeon repeatedly stated “no restrictions” for activities. Hospital staff echoed “no restrictions”. Six weeks later, a spontaneous dislocation of the new hip occurred. The new joint is a Stryker Accolade II Stem and a Trident X3 Polyethylene Insert. What if anything is wrong with this story so far? The dislocation reduction was attempted approximately 12 hours later, in the hospital ER, by the same surgeon. That failed. Under sedation both times, after being relocated to a different area of the hospital, a “very difficult” ‘closed reduction’ was successfully obtained, although given continuing physical therapies, with mixed results, the body muscles actually tightened up to an almost ‘frozen’ state, with pain levels sufficient to preclude excellent performance of all prescribed exercises. Who you gonna sue to provide for lengthy Rehab? How you gonna retain professional legal action and advice?

    I had a THR surgery three weeks ago. Pre -surgery I viewed the X-ray film and it was obvious that I had lost all joint space ( possibly resulting in reduced length as a result). Now as I walk with the aid of a stick the operated leg does feel a little longer, but in time I expect I will adapt. I was informed pre-op that leg length discrepancy was a possible side effect of the surgery. I assume the more joint destruction present prior to surgery, the more the surgeon has to guesstimate where to place the prosthetic joint/ and maybe which length prosthesis to choose ( assuming that they are not one size fits all patients)

    My mom had a replacement due to a fall from a second story in an elevator (the whole thing went down) broke her femur and pelvis and many bruises all over, very lucky she is alive. Now, a chain of mistakes were made from there, ER sent her home telling her she didn’t had any fractures, she was screaming in pain and couldn’t move her leg. That was the first mistake, then the PT starts treatment without asking for the x rays, she was told there was no fracture and treatment started. Huge mistake, 3 weeks later, she is in awful awful pain, another Dr. comes to see her this time at home, he is a hip surgeons, tells her she needs surgery immediately, ok good right? Well, it’s being 7 months after her THA and yet the pain mostly on her gluteus medius is unbearable. PT hasn’t stop, she is finally taking steps, (she couldn’t stand up right away after the THA because of the pelvis fracture) She has visited about 4 different doctors, traumatologist, Angilogist, urologist, neuro surgeon, and nothing and no one takes care of the pain. The surgeon who operated on her swears she is fine but refuses to see her and recommends to keep going to Physical therapy. The PT keeps saying all there is are contractures, so she keeps seeing her privately (no insurance covers here) and applying exercises, modalities and dry needling. My poor mother wants to die instead of having this quiality of life. Please please if someone has ever being in this situation. Help me

    I was undergone hip replacement surgery ten years back. Now for last few months, I have a pulling like pain on my thighs which is occurring daily now after few minutes of walk. It subsides after a long time of rest. But occurs on the next day. Some google searches showed that it could be due to stem loosening. Could you please advise on this doctor?

    How much leg length discrepancy is acceptable and is best just left to be as it is?

    • @PrincetonSpineJointCenter
      @PrincetonSpineJointCenter  Год назад +2

      Anything less than 1 cm is a good rule of thumb. The truth for any one person is more nuanced because it depends on if it’s new (like after a surgery) or not and if there are symptoms. But most doctors would say that if it’s less than 1 cm or perhaps 1.5 cm then probably leave it be and if it’s longer than at least consider addressing it. But each patient really needs to be evaluated in the context of any other issues going on.

    Hi There. I live in the UK and in August2021 I had a full hip replacement in my left leg. Previously in June2018, I had something called a Fixation which I has to have removed as it was turning and the one of the long screws started to dig into my pelvis. It's now 15 months since my hip replacement and I have severe knee pain and a pain in my buttock area. I have been measured and fitted with a slight heel heightener which has been confirmed by a second expert in orthotics. I have recently had a MRI scan on my knee which shows I have torn the media melicus and I am being told by the Consultant that the buttock pain is coming from the knee. I had an accident back in the 90's which left me with bulging discs in my lower spine and I strongly believe that the buttock pain is the bulging discs playing up as the pain travels right along my left lower back and finishes at my spine.
    Could I be right?
    Would an operation help on my knee?
    Thank you.

    What do you do when the surgeon deliberately lenghtened the op leg because he knew the other had to be done. This was done to me on the premise I would feel great after even first. This is not the case, the back, butt and groin pain on op side are constant at more than 4 months. Surgeon blamed it on spine, yet steroid shot did nothing. If 6 month xray was fine, could something have changed?
