One of the best songs ever composed, I love everything about it, drums, bass, lead guitar and vocals seamlessly fused and flowing in resonant perfection! I think Mozart would cry tears of soulful joy.
Iris Bright I'm with you. Every instrument on this song speaks to me. It's haunting, melodic, and bittersweet but still has the jam that brings it all together. Alway been my favorite of the band. Incomparable is the only word I can think of to describe this song even though music is an expression which is completely subjective. Very special group that's for sure. :)
One of the great slide solos i have heard in a long long time by one of the best players today. Listened to this song sing early 70s, it never gets old. Thanks
Awestruck.... the band were tight and the flow of the song was seamless. Such a powerful solo section Duane wrote and Derek delivered. Fuckin incredible when he went into the last part of the solo and paid tribute to Duane I could bawl my eyes out. Amazing performance
Few bands matter more than The Allman Brothers Band, few guitar players matter more than Duane Allman and Dickey Betts. Derek Trucks just eared his place amongst them, holy shit what a solo. This is what music's all about.
how good is this band...a little jammy nowadays but i'd drop anything at anytime to go to see one of my very favorite bands.. Been going for forty years now...and GA is still my babydoll...I'm so glad he finally got his shit together..I was beginning to think he wouldn't make it like so many others in this industry... I can't imagine the stress,,but I am,,for one..always grateful for this wonderful gift they've given us.
Not sure there will ever be another voice with the soul, emotion and feeling of the blues, that Greg Allman can wring out of one of his own tunes. The band was cooking on all levels this night. I love Warren's playing but leaving this song all to the mastery of Derek Trucks just seems right. And it's good to watch Uncle Butch at work again as well. RIP Butch Trucks and Greg Allman🙏. ABB Forever!!
Derek Trucks is one of my favorite guitarists ever. I love his fingerpicking style. His slide guitar playing is also really awesome. Not many great guitarists today can play like Derek
What a wonderful song ! Thank God that this kind of music is still existing ! I´m listening the ABB scince over 30 years , they still are wonderful . Musik with feelings , soul and heart ! Thank you !!!
The curtain closes tonight as the Brother's play the last time at the Beacon...signaling the end of The Allman Brother's Band. Lost count as to how many shows I went to there...and other venues. Thank you for the amazing times, you will be sorely missed, as there's "...no one left to run with anymore."
A monstrous loss today. The greatest vocal tone of any blues singer ever. Period. This song transcends reality into spirituality. Just can't take your eyes off Derrick. Flying into another galaxy with that Duane tone. No words...
d law- I am just now reading your comment, 3 years late. I wouldn't say Gregg had the "greatest vocal tone of any blues singer ever. Period." LOL! Those kind of "absolute" comments are absurd. But yes, losing Gregg was a tremendous loss to the entire music world.
I still weep when watching this again. With joy for those guys to get a second chance in life to play that song with some crazy Duane reincarnation in Derek. I thought it was impossible for another person to recapture Duane’s ferocious melodic style but Derek pulls it off and that band soars into the heavens once again after so many years of missing it’s essential sound! (Though they were still awesome live without Duane)
Perhaps my biggest musical regret was never getting to see these guys do their thing live. My God what a performance of one of their finest songs. I couldn't love this more if I tried. Gregg's soul is on full display here. But Derek's guitar solo is masterful. His style is equal parts Duane Allman (obviously) and John Coltrane.
The camera work is brilliant. It allows for an intimacy that you just don't sense with most concert videos. This tune is trance blues jam and the visual stays within that for lack of a better word, zone.
Live from the "Beacon". The Theatre where they gave their "Farewell Performance" in the winter of 2014. Best wishes and successful fulfillment in their future endeavors and most of all, thank you for the memories.
I love that slide solo. It is just perfect. I saw Trucks for the first time at this Beacon run and remember leaving and thinking that he was the best guitarist I'd ever seen.
Another great musician gone!!! Been to several of their concerts and they were all fantastic (and long, close to three hours! You got your moneys worth)!!! This is one of my fav tunes from them besides Whipping Post but they were all awesome!!! RIP Gregg!!! You're with your bro Duane now and making music again together!!!
Beautiful. Dreams is truly one of the best rock songs every put to music. This is the pinnacle of southern rock by the best, with nothing like it ever since. The version with Duane will blow your mind.
allman brothers band a southern rock band one of my favorites this song is a masterpiece through time I heard them many times seen them a few their sound stays within you a great performance played with the soul of Great Duane Allman Hes still playing through Derek Butch Trucks Nephew every time I hear this song I see Duane come through for all eternity he will play and Warren.a legendary Guitarist I appreciate this video and thanks for downloading it another great performance in a song TiedTo the whipping post
I'm not even see it's the focus that makes it great I think it's the effortless line of expressive lines that rival those layed down years also by the great Duane Allman
Edward Nethery Yes, on this one, when he put the slide one....my fucking hair raised up on my arms. I might think he channeled some of Duane there. The guy is good on the axe.
Bill hoffman Rajan, my Brother. You nailed it on the head. Derek's dad was Butch, one of the two drummers for the Fillmore Easr Band, circa 1970. That band was heaven. They played in ATL's Piedmont often to huge laid back crowds, and would play for hours. Derek picked up the rhythms of Duane. Dickie Betts was a very different stylist on guitar, but it worked; Dickie and Duane were the Yin and the Yang of rock They complemented each other. I don't Buddha himself could explains the vast complexities if the Karma which that band together on the stage the Fillmore at the perfect. My original vinyl was destroyed just a few years ago. I had a smallish, yet superb collection of vinyl which I lost just a few years ago. I'll be in the spring. So what all you know about these guys, but this band is extremely well documented. I bet I have 100 friends and aquaintances who know far maore about the Bros than I do. Oh, major point: the Fillmore East music was mixed in a van with a bunch of garage sale equipment, but it produced the original vinyl. It's still my favorite source. He hear all the squeaks and squaks from backstage, on stage and the audience, but each time they launched into another song, the crowd fell silent, and all you can hear is the music. I've got the re-mixed and re-mastered Special Release, and it well worth owning. It's terribly interesting and electronically perfect, but it's a little lost in translation. Keep the Faith
+Edward Nethery Derek is the son of Butch's brother, just as a heads up. Either way there's not a more perfect guitarist to carry on and push the musical ethics of Duane into modern times.
Simple one of the best Allman Brothers best songs I think and Derek Trucks completely rocks out that solo makes it completely soulful thats what I like. You hardly every hear anyone now-a-days playin straight from the heart. Made me wanna go out and buy a slide lol thumbs up
This is so finely played...and so well shot and directed...it's a rare video to experience. Possibly the funkiest waltz ever. Unless you've played in a band and shot video you may not appreciate how special this is. Thanks to all
We were blessed to have Duane and Gregg Allman, and also to have everyone that played with them. Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes kept the fire burning. God bless them all.
All props to Derek as these comments show, but let's not forget that Warren Haynes is one mother fuckin' fine ass Allman Brother guitarist, who sits back and comps on this number as Derek is showcased.
Hell yea!! I love Derek but Warren holds a little more special place in my heart having seen him so many times over the years..esp at The Wetlands where he 1st really got Mule going along with all the power jams he used to put together there with Woody and always tons of incredible guests. I think I've seen Warren more than any other gtr player too..somewhere round 100 times over the years..between The Allmans, Mule, The power jams, The Dead, Phil Lesh and friends(The Q), along with all the times I've seen him sit in with other bands like Soulive and more. Wish I kept a journal so I could know how many shows I've seen, different musicians, fests, and all the details of each show..along with so much more.
Was there at Filmore East that magical, mystical evening (actually a few evenings) and heard a couple versions of this song. Derek plays a Gibson SG but sounds so much like Duane. Skydog inspired me so much I started playing guitar and played for almost thirty years until a machining accident cost me my left hand above the wrist. I will always be eternally grateful for Brother Duane and Derek to show me what would have been. Play on Brothers!
I caught their show at the Beacon in NY some years back , one of the tightest bands I have ever listened to and that is saying a lot . They were amazing , this song "dreams" if you think it is too long , you don't get the A bros. and the whole blues thing. This song has real soul .
It's Duane, man. If he were still alive, he would be playing these same, fucking licks. Derek knows. Somewhere in his consciousness.........he knows. Shit. And all of us get to enjoy it.
Gregg said in his memoir that he would catch Derek in the corner of his eye on stage and could swear it was Duane. Playing the same damn licks too. He's a special, special talent.
Wow that was just beautfiul.Greg has always had one of the best voices in the biz and still has done.his phrasing and tone is just phenomenal.Derek must have really touched Greg when he brought out the slide,Duane would be proud.Very very touching.i saw them right before duane died. Duane is and always will be one of my favorite guitar players and the best blue slide players of all time

Butch was blessed with a fruitful life of love, family, friends, dreams that came true. RIP my dear friend Butch Trucks. May your soul be with God as a shining light for your family & loved ones
I remember watching this song being played at a Beacon session in 01, and my father and I looking at each other like "How can this be played with out Duane" As he put it, "It was like Duane was there playing the guitar". He swore he closed his eyes and heard Duane. I'm not sure if that counts to Derek being so good or my dad having an acid flash back.
This song is an awesome jam ! The lyrics at the start,I can picture the part" I went up on the mountain", to see what I could see"" The whole world was falling, ,right down in front of me,I'm hung up on dreams I'll never see ,yea baby, help me baby, this will surely be, the end of me,yea!

I could listen to Derek Trucks play all day.
Seems I could as well.
I have #noRegrets
I could listen to the whole band all day
Derek’s slide solo starting at 4:18 is among the best I’ve ever heard on a live recording.

Totally agree. If I ever stop liking this song, it must be because I died!
Extraordinary. Derek shows the Duane in his heart.

Love this song, even my dog loves it, he calms down, lays back and listens to it.
Astounding. The Brothers.
Irreplaceable. Love them so much.
Love the light percussion additions.
Excellent
Kids, stop arguing. Lifes too short! Just listen to the music and chill out! *Peace*

how about duane and dickey lol
Jarrod Cook I agree with you, they are the best, unfortunately they didn't get to play together all that long.
Bob Kersting yea very unfortunate but at least they made loads of great music and these guys are keeping it alive
This song brings so much peace and comfort to my soul and the way Derek Plays it brilliantly and charged with tons of emotion

Greg Allman on that Hammond B3 with the Leslie speaker behind him. Love that B3!

So good, and Buddy Miles did a great version also.
Yes definitely. Miles was a legend.
this is a great song and some great work on this. Greg Allman's voice has always been real soulful. This is dreamy.
I am happy that amazing guitarists still exist (derek trucks). He can carry on the legacy of Allman bros with pride after they pass away.
Saw these guys at Mississippi River Festival in summer of 1978....awesome!
HOLY CRAP!!!! This is nearly a 10 minute EARGASM! DT's slide is out of this world! Warren is even checking him out foe awhile! WOW!
