whats your opinion of the critical draw+dragon piercer build? if you aren't familliar you can charge your bow from a sheathed state and if you dragon pierce off that charge it benefits from critical draw.

Since people may actually listen to your video please advise your viewers that the arc shot hits your teammates also. So users shouldn't rain it down on when their mates are trying to land their combos.

You forgot to mention the fact that Dragon Piercer does more damage the longer it goes through a monster, so it's best to line it up from head to tail or wing to wing, whichever is the longer distance on a monster.

This is unimaginably helpful. As someone who's never played any Monster Hunter game before, who's just getting into MHW, I was super lost on what to do with the weapons. It's great that they give you a tutorial, but they don't explain stuff like the charge of your bow affecting the damage of Arc Shot or Dragon Piercer - nor do they explain that you can charge by dodging or firing off your other shots instantly... I ended up looking for a tutorial - and found this one - because I was trying to use the bow but it just wasn't outputting any damage! It was taking me like 30 minutes of pin-cushioning something while hitting nothing but 1's and 2's to finally get it... Thanks for the easy-to-follow and in-depth guide!

The thing is that the deep functions of weapons can also be part of the games experience to slowly learn by yourself. Though with how long it takes to get through the story and the advent of the internet doesn't work at all anymore as everyone wants to learn fast. He mentioned that before you only got slight screenshaking for being at the right distance so the game was even less clear before and required you to piece this stuff together more.

I would add that using a charging sidestep after a lv 3 shot will maintain the charge level, so by repeatedly using charging sidestep you can rapidly fire lv 3 shots. This is extremely useful for applying status effects. If you go with level 5 Constitution, you can chain 6+ sidesteps and shots before resting. It ends up being a great way to put damage down while staying mobile and, more importantly, is fun as hell.

Also, I've seen in another video: You lock on to the part that you've shot, I you perform a sidestep after shooting something.
Normally, it would be hard to keep aiming at the monster, if you use sidestep-combos, but if you don't touch the right stick, you lock on.

I've been so confused regarding if shots in succession were worth it or not since the beta, and I'm honestly *really glad* because that method feels a lot cooler now. It feels good having some variety of actual clarification there.

I'm surprised that being this video touches on efficiency that you didn't bother to mention lining up dragon piercer properly.
By that I mean if you shoot say a rathian from the front where the head is and it travels through the whole body to the tail it does considerably more damage for you than just landing a dragon piercer shot at the side of a head.
In short the more the shot travels through a monster the more damage the one dragon piercer shot does. Other than that great video. Your first 2 guides touched on the 2 weapons I was most interested in.

Two other things to always keep in mind: The arc shot can chain trip teammates leaving them open to the mercy of the monster, and you need to remember your quarry's weak point. The difference in damage between weak point and non-weak point hits of the bow if massive, much higher than melee's difference. Make those shots count.

Thank you for doing this. While being a new player to the series, I was finding myself having trouble finding a weapon I could enjoy. The bow was one of the ones I at least liked but still felt I was doing something wrong. This helped clear that up a lot. Despite the helpful hints in the practice area, some things are still left out and not clearly as intuitive for players to pick up on like the combos you detailed. Please continue to do these as I do want to try other weapons like the bow guns or the insect glaive. I still am amazed at how people can stay airborne with the IG for so long whereas I struggle to do the same immensely, but I'm sure you can break this down in detail as well with other idiosyncrasies of the other weapons for beginners like me. ^_^

I know this is an old video but I wanted to add something, the bow is exceptionally good at interacting with traps. With how quick moving is with the bow you can easily lure a monster under a falling pillar/rock or into any other traps. Of course all weapons can do this to an extent but no other class has both the mobility, and range (besides maybe the sword/shield during some situations) to interact with these traps.

I just wanted to thank you for these tutorials, they really helped me a lot when I started playing this game. I'm using the bow as my main weapon now :)
One thing I would like to add after hundreds of hunts together with other players: As a bow user, be mindful of when you use the arc shoot and the dragon piercer. Both of these will stagger your team mates and will cancel their combos, which can be incredibly frustrating to them and be counter-productive overall. Especially the arc shot can be very annoying to other players since it's affecting the area for several seconds. So, whenever you play in a team, watch out not to mess with other people's play, it'll make the whole experience more fun for everyone :)

As someone coming very late into World from 4U and GU, I definitely needed this. I had been playing Bow the old way and was wondering why I wasn't doing anything all that effective. Combination of pessimism, bow being completely reworked, and underestimating my damage speed (I was looking more at the numbers than at how fast I was getting them) was bringing me down, but my friend parsing me through a Kushala Daora fight and your very well-written guide (as well as the comments mentioning Dragon Piercer cutting tails and other helpful bits) are making me feel a lot better about this. Props to you, and I hope you keep up the good work.

    Yeah.
Cutting off a charging Anjanath's tail with Dragon Piercer felt fantastic and the weapon itself is now a total blast to use. I need to stop focusing on getting good kill times and just focus on having fun and it's probably the most fun I've had with World in a while.

So there’s actually a second version of dragon piercer you can do. And I would argue that at times, this is better if your goal is to break off items from the monster.
The way this works is if you have something in your slinger, you can do this secret move. But I would aim to have piercing rods or slinger rods.
Aim -> R3 (while holding aim) -> triangle + Circle
It’s a close range burst shot so get really close and I’d take advantage by using close range coatings. It’s a crit 90 percent of the time.

I was having trouble doing single-digit damage with the bow but whenver I asked in forums why my damage was so low, people would just gush about how overpowered the bow is when you fully optimise it with _this_ exact combination of armours and gems.
Which was _spectacularly_ unhelpful to someone who's six hours into the game and has no gems, no gem-slots and barely any armours unlocked.

What’s tough about good armor skills is that most of them are viable, it just depends on what you’re playing and how you play. When I play bow I like to have as much stamina boosts as I can. So I have full constitution and stamina surge. I also love to gem in the ability to do sleep coating because it’s always satisfying to put a monster to sleep then bomb his face.

You forgot to mention the proper way to use dragon piercer. You want to aim at the thickest part of the monster. Best case scenario you would should through the head out of the tail, the longer the DP is hitting the monster, the more times it hits. Up to 7 total I believe. If you shot through the side of a monsters head, for example, you would only see 2 to 3 damage numbers.

MHW brought a lot of new players, so many surprised about piercing shots from head to tail :) Used to be the best way to get top dmg on big wyverns and induce statuses in the same time back in MHFU. It's worth to mention it hits in multiple waves and status coatings work the best with perfect hit. Also the circle combo is good for multiple small enemies, for it's wide reach and it also allows to put coatings at multiple enemies same time.

@@LimeTortilla It's great for Wide range builds and tripping monsters. Plus it can cut tails and you can shield bash to knock out monsters. There's more to it than you think.

I was getting tired of the efficiency of the Katana, this video encourages me to use the bow and its so much more fun and effective. Great video!

If no openings use a draw attack, sheath, run around, draw attack. If they're standing still or trapped then up and hold triangle - up and hold triangle - up and hold triangle, repeat. Boom greatsword lol.

The heavy focus of charging shots always had me put off from Bows.
Finding out from your video about the R2 combo and Charing Sidestep makes the Bow feel a LOT more up my playstyle than the Bowguns, still charging for status doesn't actually feel off putting as it gives me the feeling of searching out the weakest points to best apply them.
An Amazing guide, and thank you for giving me a much more enjoyable choice of Gunner Weapon!
